Can this be true? Tons of people lying to get vaccine.

My mum has just told me that my dodgy cousin (about 30) has just had his vaccine with all of his builder mates by lying and saying they are ‘unpaid carers’ on the nhs website. She said no one bothered to check any of them.
Firstly, how bloody outrageous of them pulling the wool over the vaccine centres eyes and secondly, why isn’t their any check, however minor?
I know we all need to get done eventually but this has really pissed me off.

I think this happens.
When I was waiting to get vaccinated they were going along the line asking if people were carers and the people who were saying yes were being ushered to the front of the queue. They were mainly younger people.
People who had booked appointments ended up having to wait about 3/4 of an hour.
It was raining and cold that day.
So you had a situation where younger people (generally healrhier) were going through and older people (generally worse immune systems)were being forced to stand in the wind and cold for up to an hour.
Someone never thought that one through properly.

Pastanred · 21/03/2021 15:13

Everyone i know is doing this

But it works both ways

My local lea ‘bagsied’ all the spare doses last weekend and booked at the teachers in my town in - that was last week and yet my mates who are police etc actually got turned away

Lea are doing this is lots of areas to gwtvtrachers the vaccine dispite other occupations having higher risk of death etc

I’m teacher and many of my colleagues have gotten spares thru lea this way

Not right really

Hork · 21/03/2021 15:14

Loads of this going on.

EmilyDickinson · 21/03/2021 15:16

When I went for my vaccine I got a hard look from the person checking me in and he pointed at my birth date on the screen and asked me if it was really correct. I was a bit taken aback and said it was. He said that they got a lot of people lying about their birth dates to get vaccines. I’ve decided to take it as a compliment

EleanorLenor · 21/03/2021 15:20

I’m surprised - I had to get my GP to sort my records so I would flag as an unpaid carer. Before that, it seemed impossible to get one.

Sleepyblueocean · 21/03/2021 15:20

"secondly, why isn’t their any check, however minor?"

What would that check be?

MRex · 21/03/2021 15:20

Ah, maybe this explains why I had to keep showing my Group 6 invite, they didn't seem to have a concept of Group 6 being underlying conditions as they asked twice if I was a carer. I don't think people would get away with it at that site, they wanted proof.

Sleepyblueocean · 21/03/2021 15:24

My experience has been the opposite - that people who could book automatically because they receive carers allowance and had invitation to vaccine letters with them, were still being asked to provide "proof".

AvaCallanach · 21/03/2021 15:25

Hmm. I got a carer vaccine, these were in group 6, and you had to have an invitation from your GP to book. The booking was not at the main vaccination centre for self-booked people.

So at that time, at least, you couldn't claim to be an unpaid carer if you weren't (I am) as you needed to show your GP text before they let you in.

canigooutyet · 21/03/2021 15:26

What checks could they make?
We have nothing to proof who my unpaid carer is or that I even have one other than our word

pabloescobarselasticband · 21/03/2021 15:28

I booked online as a carer ( i am a carer for my youngest child who is CEV) i was not asked to provide any evidence when I went for the jab.

Sorry, but this sounds extremely implausible. My vaccination centre didn’t do this. My DH went to a different one, they didn’t do this. I’ve not heard of anyone on here saying this is what happened. If they did do it at yours, why didn’t you just complain?

I hope you don’t teach English 🤣🤣🤣
Sleepyblueocean · 21/03/2021 15:30

There are lots of people who have a surgery acting as unreasonable gatekeeper eg " unpaid carers doesn't apply to parents because all parents have to look after their children" . So I doubt there are tons getting a vaccine by just pretending.

Same at mine.
SinkGirl · 21/03/2021 15:31

How? I’m legitimately an unpaid carer and I can’t book through the site as the goalposts have been moved and it says the person needs to be CEV. My kids are autistic and not CEV so I haven’t booked.

Don’t they require some form of evidence? Am I being a mug?

GP wouldn’t put us on the list despite both twins getting HRC as I don’t get carers allowance

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 21/03/2021 15:31

@AvaCallanach yes unpaid carer is on the general covid app now. I’m not naive but didn’t think this would be as prolific as this. I thought it would have to be flagged up under GP like @EleanorLenor said, paid or unpaid. I’m shocked.
Jeez, I couldn’t do it.

It's not right but the more people who are done the better, everyone will get it really soon.... I can't get upset about people wanting to be done.. I'm more concerned about countries have vaccine adverse population

I thought you had to be flagged as an unpaid career on your GP’s systems before you could book via the NHS website?

EasterIssland · 21/03/2021 15:33

Few people have said that they’ve friends doing it in other threads. Shame on them

EasterIssland · 21/03/2021 15:34

Apparently they don’t request proof for this
chipsandpeas · 21/03/2021 15:35

im in scotland and got the vaccine during the week due to being an unpaid carer
i registered on the site on monday and got my appointment a few days later
i didnt have to provide proof - how can i prove i am a carer for my mother
so yes in scotland the scheme is open to people faking it

SixDegrees · 21/03/2021 15:36

@EasterIssland So the NHS website will let anyone at all book a vaccine if they tick the carer box on the screen??

AvaCallanach · 21/03/2021 15:37

@BuggerBognor

When my GP and I discussed it the criteria was caring for a disabled or elderly person who would be significantly and disproportionately impacted if you (carer) were to become ill or be hospitalised.
