Looks like Europe may have got their way

I'm group 6 in my late 50's and only just got invited to book a jab on Friday. My DH who is also group 6 and younger than me had his first jab 4 weeks ago. Both with the same GP and both with pre existing medical conditions. My younger brother with the same GP, in his early 50's with no medical conditions had his first jab last week. There is no rhyme or reason to where we are up to with jabs - but I do think it is wise to make sure everyone in the first phase have been vaccinated before the under 50's.

MH did say we are still on target to give all adults jabs by the date they originally set so I don't think this is necessarily a set back. It just seems that way because we were speeding ahead for a while. I am sure we will catch up again n the coming few weeks once supply is up.

@JustDespair

Just been put in a queue on Ocado for the first time in a long time. Are people really freaking out and thinking we will remain in lockdown for longer now??
I hope not! I have a staycation booked for April 12th!! 😩🙏🏻
RedToothBrush · 17/03/2021 20:17

@Livelovebehappy

It’s scaremongering. I know loads of 40+ who have recently had the jab. Some might be delayed but I think a lot in the over 40s category have had theirs in some regions.
Reality is not scaremongering.

For the 9 millionth time on MN.

Theyve halted bookings for April. There is no more vaccine for over 40s first doses. If you were lucky to get it, great. But everyone else is just going to have to wait.

But thats anxiety producing and depression causing.

And its a fair and perfectly normal and rational feeling to have.

If i have one more friend tell me its all ok because my risk is low when theyve already had their jab, i swear to god im going to punch them.

Wakeupin2022 · 17/03/2021 20:17

Vaccines don't prevent you getting ANY illness. They MAY however prevent you testing +ve, but in order for the adaptive immune system to act, you must first be infected!!

Thanks for explaining. I get so cross about people spreading misinformation and here I'm doing it Grin.

Some have had it yes but many delayed. It doesn’t help those delayed much.

Everyone needs to stop speculating about lockdown being extended, it's freaking me out!!

You are a sensible, analytical person, Redtoothbrush.

Witj vaccine that relies upon perfect conditions in a natural production process, this was always going to happen at some point. It’s astonishing that it hadn’t happened before this.

It will be back on course in a few weeks.

Of course it’s not scaremongering....it’s fact...it’s reality....no more bookings are being taken on the nhs booking site....i was contacted today to put back my 2nd vaccine ( Pfizer ) ...it was due on 12th April but they will have no Pfizer on that day so I now have to wait to be contacted to rearrange.....I imagine many will soon be finding themselves in the same boat as me.....it is what it is
AlecTrevelyan006 · 17/03/2021 20:24

It’s disappointing but in the grand scheme of things it will prove to be just a blip. The U.K. vaccination programme has gone brilliantly do far. Keep the faith.

BungleandGeorge · 17/03/2021 20:24

None of us will be doing any leisure pursuit inside for nearly 4 weeks at least as nothing is open until at least 12th April and nobody is allowed to meet inside for ages! Whether you e had the vacc or not we’re still under lockdown

Excitablemuch · 17/03/2021 20:25

They always said everyone by July. They never promised the over 40s they would be done In april the media just got over excited and got everyone whipped up by the speed. This wonky affect the road map as over 40s were never calculated this early. They’ve said there are ebbs and flows in the supply and they have accounted for it.

Stop. Panicking. Please. It just increases anxiety for people! It will be fine and you’ll get your jab. If you have to wait it’s cos you’re not high risk. Stick to the rules!

RedToothBrush · 17/03/2021 20:26

@kittensarecute

No indication it will be. At this stage at least. That may change if numbers start to go up.

However i will not be doing many things by choice until i have a vaccine now. Im not going to expose myself needlessly at this stage. Particularly when others will.

So whether lockdown ends or not is irrelevant.

It also makes me more anxious if others are doing stuff because they dont care or because they have been vaccinated if that means cases start to rise. And more likely to stay home.

So in effect lockdown has just been extended for me whether its official or not, because im not comfortable with the situation.

And thats hard for me to wrap my head around.

@LimitIsUp

Don't shout at me folks - but aren't those of you under 50 with school aged dc (and thus not getting the jab as quickly as you had hoped) not a bit reassured by the lateral flow testing that is going on? I find it reassuring that ds (16) has had 4 negative lateral flow tests and its only his second week at school
No. My one teen had six self isolations between Sept to Dec and he caught Covid.

My other teen at another school had three self isolations.

Both schools are in high risk areas where 20% of the class had Covid. These schools are in areas where vaccine take up is poor and where many children are not testing.

Can I ask how many isolations your children have had? Our schools/areas may not be comparable, hence the confidence in your post.

I'm I the West Mids and many schools I work with have already had a few cases this week and burst bubbles.

Nice little scaremongering thread you've posted here @DareIask Hmm

NOTHING has been confirmed yet. NOTHING.

The EU are bullies, and sore losers, who are TRYING to stop the UK getting the vaccines.

They have not succeeded (yet,) and they probably won't.

Sadly for them, they don't get to control us, and bully us anymore.

Their behaviour over the last few months - towards us - has been deplorable, shameful, and disgusting. They are plain nasty. I don't know how anyone can support them now to be honest...

I am 100 MILLION per cent glad we left!

I agree the EU are ludicrous and I too am delighted we left.

Well that’s your choice but no one is forcing you to make that decision and pointing out what we have been told time and time again is going to make no difference is it?

Sorry, whats the slow down in vaccine got to do with Brexit?

why should the EU allow exports of vaccine to us, when the UK isn't allowing export of vaccine to the EU ?

Do you for one minute think that we would all be happy if we were short of vaccine for our peoples but keeping up exports to other countries?

littlepattilou · 17/03/2021 20:37

@jasjas1973

These are the vaccines the UK ordered many many months ago.

They are OURS.

The EU countries were not as forward thinking as us, and are now struggling to get them. So they are trying to bully boy their way in to get OUR vaccines.

They are not getting them.

AND

They don't get to tell us what to do anymore. Shame. Wink

It has sweet FA to do with Brexit.

It is a natural process.

Sometimes, conditions are not perfect and it goes wrong.

It will be corrected and production will continue.

What is so hard to understand?

Thanks to brilliant people, we have a fantastic programme.

Be patient - and, maybe, just a little bit grateful - you’ll all get your jabs.

Jesus 🤯

Wakeupin2022 · 17/03/2021 20:41

jas its terribly sad that the EU are in such a bad position. They won't be soon though.

They are in that position because of decisions that they have made centrally.

The UK did not have the manufacturing capacity or buying power to get themselves to the top of the list. Instead they put the effort into setting up a UL supply chain for the AZ vaccine which actually included the plant in the Netherlands.

The EU chose not to do that.

We are clearly not really making many vaccines at all.

I get the EU annoyance at AZ but I really can't get why they are so frustrated at the UK. We were involved in setting up the plant in the Netherlands and now that source has been taken away from us.

They could have done the same, and the way Oxford / AZ have set things up made this really easy for them to do.

The EU issues are because of EU decisions and a lesser yield from AZ than expected which is impacting us all.

Aloethere · 17/03/2021 20:41

I have ffs! Your shortage is nothing to do with the EU.
Dongdingdong · 17/03/2021 20:41

@RedToothBrush perhaps you should be thankful you don’t live in the EU, where many people who are old and vulnerable are still waiting for their first dose.

Back in January there were plenty of people on MN saying the UK should divert its excess supplies to the EU and that younger people here should wait. Now the under 50s are upset because they’re not getting their jab next week. You couldn’t make it up.
