To think the EU countries are utter fuckwits over the AZ vaccine?

Words fail me at the utter stupidity and reckless behaviour of many EU countries over the whole vaccination thing and in particular the AZ vaccine.

40 people with blood clots with AZ ..... which is statistically lower than the average number of people who get blood clots anyway and the same as the Pfizer one! And the twatty french president saying AZ was quite ineffective in the over 65s and the whole of the EU slow the give it to over 65s because there was no evidence (because it wasn't tested on them) that it worked. It does, and sheer logic says it will. Your immune system doesn't fold up at 65.

With covid cases rising, Paris hospitals shipping out seriously ill patients to other areas, Italy in serious problems again, they need to stop this.

On no real evidence they are putting the lives of thousands of people at risk and putting a question mark over an effective vaccine which makes no profit and can be used worldwide cheaply.

The WHO say it's safe. FFS Europe, get a grip and stop the politics.

You have a much higher chance of getting a blood clot on the pill.

GabsAlot · 16/03/2021 10:23

so why arent they investigating pfizer if the blood clot side effects are at a smilar amount

@Motorina

(I'm also concerned that this may prompt an export ban on Pfizer. This effects me personally - my second dose is due at the end of the month.)
motorina don’t worry, the second doses for this month will already have been ordered and allocated to those who are due. You’ll be fine.
Cornettoninja · 16/03/2021 10:25

My understanding is that it’s a specific type of clot that has had a very small number of occurrences but in a small timeframe. This hasn’t been seen in the UK so to my unscientific mind suggests that there is an issue somewhere but not with the vaccine itself. They’re right to suspend AZ whilst they investigate it.

If you want to be angry with anyone your beef should be with the media.

j712adrian · 16/03/2021 10:25

I think the reality which people are in complete rhetorical denial about is producing a vaccine so quickly was bound to lead to death and injury.

So no, the EU countries aren't stupid, but some English people will swallow whatever rubbish the government gives them.

And unlike England, the EU actually does have a future instead of as most of the world's press reports report, England being the new failed state.

It’s entirely up to me what I put in my body. Listen to yourself. “Haha you think you get a choice”. Yes, yes I absolutely fucking do.[/quote]
You don’t get to “wait for Pfizer”. Your choice is to have the vaccine or not.

Hilarious

"The WHO say it's safe. " Oh would you look at that, you're listenting to the WHO... Absolutely gobsmacked over here. Because when others have tried to bring attention to the WHO saying mask were useless you ignored... When someone was bringing attention to the fact that WHO have said asymtomatic doesn't exist you ignored...
halcyondays · 16/03/2021 10:27

We will be affected in the UK if a lot of people are put off getting the jab after this scare. I can’t wait to have mine.

Can’t remember ever hearing of a vaccine being paused like before. And I’m sure people will have had blood clots after having other jabs.

TheMancunianCandidate · 16/03/2021 10:28

@londonrach

Yanbu. Its about politics..the eu hate the UK now due to brexit. Just hope it doesn't effect our vaccine roll out.
Why are Brits (well the English) so anxious to believe this is driven by envy/hatred/politics? Surely if a country is behind on vax, there is more of a political incentive to promote vaccinations? This all seems very overblown - these countries are simply pausing vaccinations in accordance with their own national rules. It is a rules- based decision, not political, imho.
NewLevelsOfTiredness · 16/03/2021 10:28

@GabsAlot

I'm just going to copy my answer from the last page, and will do so every time this is brought up:

Because the extend of the damage to the bodies of the people who died in Norway and Denmark was "highly unusual," and happened close together. They had (almost certainly coincidentally) recently had the AZ vaccine.

That's why.

And I'd still happily take it, but I respect that they feel the need to investigate

plinkplinkfizzer · 16/03/2021 10:28

I had my AZ vaccine this morning and my Husband will be having his in the afternoon. For me , I am not put off . Actually I am quite relieved .💉😁

Cornettoninja · 16/03/2021 10:28

Oh and the Paul Elrich Institute have led the investigation in Germany and are very highly regarded. Have been the whole way through this pandemic. It’s bonkers to write them off at this point because we don’t like what we’re hearing.

@j712adrian tbf we haven't had the cases over here to give concern so we don't need to stop and what media have said we are a failed state as clearly we are not and will not be , the eu isn't in the best state at the moment either , no one really is

Except the UK has done millions of this vaccine, and not seen any appreciable issues. Countries which have done a very small number have suspended AZ due to "high numbers" of issues... It's definitely political and the EU are cutting off their nose to spite their face and slowing down vaccine delivery even further in an effort to discredit AZ and by association the UK.
FullofCurryandparatha · 16/03/2021 10:32

What I don't understand is why they haven't looked at pfizer as well though

Because pfizer haven't reported the same adverse reactions.

There is a process, a way these things work. A protocol to make sure that everything is as safe as possible, and many countries are now in that process. If you're in the UK, it doesn't effect you. It's not your business. Bleating and shouting about the big nasty EU only makes you look increasingly stupid, especially when it has no effect on you whatsoever.

I mean, I imagine you're jealous of countries that have better leaders than you (wouldn't be hard, your PM is the creature from the Sugar Puffs box, only with a lower IQ), and you wish your countries had your safety in mind, but seriously calm down. You don't have the info and your newspapers lie about everything.

's definitely political and the EU are cutting off their nose to spite their face and slowing down vaccine delivery even further in an effort to discredit AZ and by association the UK

Seriously? How arrogant are you? You actually think the EU has decided not to vaccinate their people just to make the UK look bad?
For one thing thats insanity level narcissism, and for another, the UK doesn't need any help to look bad.

FelicityCentre · 16/03/2021 10:33

@Flaunch They’ve still got a cob on

not heard that in years! you've reminded me of my scouse nan and made my morning Flowers

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 16/03/2021 10:34

FWIW I’d already decided not to have AZ and to wait for Pfizer. Nothing to do with clots, everything to do with the appalling side effects that I believe are being significantly downplayed.
Are you in the uk ? If so you don't get a choice , obviously you can waste appts and turk up and leave of its not what you want but it could take ages , and other vaccines are arriving soon so there could be other vaccines also being given , pfizer we only have so many on order and 2nd doses will be priority so no guarantee you will get the one you want

NewLevelsOfTiredness · 16/03/2021 10:34

People do know that AstraZeneca is half Swedish... therefore half EU. Right?

So nonsense like this:

It's definitely political and the EU are cutting off their nose to spite their face and slowing down vaccine delivery even further in an effort to discredit AZ and by association the UK.

...makes no sense, at all. Sweden have literally suspended use of a drug that is developed by a British Swedish company to spite Britain? The mental gymnastics there...

Changeismyname · 16/03/2021 10:35

No the UK has done around 40 million vacinations, the EU is getting close to 200 million.

So 37 people out of a sample size of c200M? That’s an incidence rate of 0.0000185%.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 16/03/2021 10:35

@FullofCurryandparatha calm down , I asked a question on a uk website which I have every right to ask , so don't tell me what it does or doesn't have to do with me

Snuggleworm · 16/03/2021 10:36

I live in Ireland and yes, they are being extra cautious and I believe this will stop a lot of people from getting it.
We were way behind anyway as our government could not organsie a piss up in a brewery. I am so annoyed with our Taoisach right now. It is utter nonsense. We are so behind and looks like we will be locked for ages now.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 16/03/2021 10:36

@BuggerBognor no there won't be a private option for ages that has been said

Alexandernevermind · 16/03/2021 10:36

The fears are irrational on the basis that you are more likely to die from not having the vaccine than you are to die from vaccine itself. The EU know this and so i wonder if they are more worried about a risk of being sued by their citizens than a loss of life from the virus itself?
Of course its also political, the UK is very unpopular right now - no point entering Eurovison!
The good thing is that the EU can afford the more expensive alternatives, so at least if they aren't using our much cheaper vaccine there is more that can be distributed to the less fortunate parts of the world.
