Side Effects Returned After 2 Weeks Post Astrazeneca

Lisalisaandcultjam · 13/03/2021 12:44

I had my first Astrazeneca 16 days ago and that night and for almost a week I felt nauseated, pain left side above hip, headache, fluish.
These faded away and I was left with a very swollen arm.
2 days ago we noticed my arm was still in a big lump but bruising and tracking red around the outside.
Yesterday I awoke with a headache and the back pain had returned.
Today my guts are off again and I feel sick, abdominal pains and feel generally chappy just as I did 2 weeks ago.
There is absolutely no way I've caught anything as we've been incredibly strict and clean everything we receive and we haven't been in contact with anyone at all.
I'm just curious if anyone else had noticed anything similar.

Should we report the side effects that are listed? I had every single one listed as common, more or less in the same order! Only for 24 hours . It was very unpleasant though.

Does anyone know if the side effects are just one of those things that can be ironed out over time? They had to make it safe and effective and fast and the side effects are no issue given the urgent need. But over time can they be lessened?

I don't think they are 1 in 10 based on the people I know. Is it important the scientists can work out the prevalence of side effects ?

I was also very glad I knew I might feel grim. But I still didn't expect to get them as I have the flu jab yearly and never get side effects (pretty sure those are listed as 1 in 10 also).

My approach to it has been thank god I've had the vaccine as id forgotten what it felt like to feel ill -- and I was still functional, i could eat and cook a basic dinner . I do not want a serious illness like covid and I am massively grateful for the vaccination . No one should be put off.

Medication does have side effects. I spent months having poison injected into me when I had chemo. I may not have needed it as I'd had surgery, but it may also have saved my life. I feel the same about the vaccine. It's not BAD to have side effects with potentially life saving medication.

@MRex thanks I am mostly better but still have lingering fatigue and have no energy to go running. I didn’t think I had Covid as was not very ill at any point however I do remember feeling distinctly dodgy at one point early in the first lockdown. I rather suspect I might have had it. I work in a school so have never been isolating as such.
I won’t go for my second dose until I have spoken with a doctor because no way can I go through that again.

MRex · 28/03/2021 21:29

Yes, you should report all side effects on the yellow card scheme; some will be more prevalent than others / maybe some get all of them and others none.

@BigButtons - that sounds sensible. Always best to get direct GP advice if you're unsure.

tootyfruitypickle · 28/03/2021 21:33

@MRex great ok will do tomorrow. It was vaguely reassuring how accurate the list of common side effects was in my case.

Hi. I have just found your thread after a google search because my side effects are also back. 14 days exactly after my first AstraZeneca jab (which left me ill for 2 days). I recovered and now aching and feeling sick again. How are you now? Have reported it on the yellow card system.

Lizzieanniebee23 · 28/04/2021 18:14

Hi. My side effects have also returned. I had AstraZeneca and was poorly for 2 days after the first jab. Now just over 14 days later they have returned. Pains in my legs and joints and shivering with no temp. Covid neg. are you feeling better now? Don’t want to take another day off from work as had to the day after jab.

@Lizzieanniebee23 hi, sorry to hear you're feeling yuck again. This was originaIly my post. It will pass, start having some regular paracetamol again and hopefully in the next day or so you'll feel a bit better.

Had my 2nd AZ vaccine over 2 weeks ago. Felt ill for a few days. Have had days where I felt a bit better and now way worse again - back in bed with extreme fatigue, dizziness, unable to go about daily activities. This is not "feeling ill for a few days" This is going on a long time and I'm worried. Supposed to be starting a new job on Monday but right now it's looking doubtful. Anyone else had side effects lasting this long?

This was how I was after my first one and it lingered for weeks and like you I was worried. It did eventually fizzle out. I had my second one 8 weeks after the first and I was a bit reluctant. I felt fluish that night and until about 5pm the next day then I was OK again. This seemed to be more like the general side effects I had heard of. Some people I've spoken to were worse after the 2nd dose, it seems a mixed bag. Have you had a test just to make sure? I would perhaps let the Dr know you are feeling like this, especially when you're meant to start a new job next week. Having said that they weren't that bothered when I said how ill I had been.

I'm sorry to hear you are feeling awful. Although I didn't have vomiting, I did feel extremely nauseated in a similar pattern to yourself and it has eventually subsided thank goodness and hopefully yours does too in time. Take care and feel better soon. Have you spoken to the Dr to see of they can give you anything to stop the vomiting?x

That's good, hope they call back soon for you. Mine was intermittent for about 6 weeks and seemed to dull down after that. I had my 2nd dose at 8 weeks after the first so was only really 10-14 days clear of feeling rough until I got that one so was a bit scared. It absolutely was connected as each time the nausea and other symptoms flared up again, so too would my arm at the injection site. At one point my entire upper arm was red and purple and in a great big lump. What I will say which might reassure you, is that after the 2nd dose, the same night I felt fluish and sounded like I'd smoked 40 fags. This lasted until about 5pm the next day and then I was completely fine which was so much better than the first time. My arm wasn't even sore that time. Hopefully you'll be the same after your 2nd too. It's easier said than done but try not to worry, it should pass,x
