Side Effects Returned After 2 Weeks Post Astrazeneca

Lisalisaandcultjam · 13/03/2021 12:44

I had my first Astrazeneca 16 days ago and that night and for almost a week I felt nauseated, pain left side above hip, headache, fluish.
These faded away and I was left with a very swollen arm.
2 days ago we noticed my arm was still in a big lump but bruising and tracking red around the outside.
Yesterday I awoke with a headache and the back pain had returned.
Today my guts are off again and I feel sick, abdominal pains and feel generally chappy just as I did 2 weeks ago.
There is absolutely no way I've caught anything as we've been incredibly strict and clean everything we receive and we haven't been in contact with anyone at all.
I'm just curious if anyone else had noticed anything similar.

@Roonerspismed thanks I'll have a look at that. I did read a few others on a forum who seemed to have similar protracted symptoms to mine. Although it doesn't take away what I'm feeling, it is reassuring.

Seems it is either directly due to vaccine or an exacerbation of IBS although I don't usually feel sick like this with IBS. Maybe a combination of both, however it should be self limiting only and clear up.
I've not eaten much again today but that's not such a bad thing 😂.
My arm seems to be improved too so I expect it has been an immune response in the main and would possibly be consistent with what we've been told about increased immunity being present 2-3 weeks after the first dose.

An early night in order I think. I hope everyone else here is ok.

I feel shity again two weeks post vaccine. I was wondering if I had covid again but I only had it in January ( confirmed with pcr).

I feel like I did just before I lost my taste and smell.

Llh1979 · 15/03/2021 20:25

@ConeHat are you going to take another test? Hope your ok

Bluenightowl · 15/03/2021 20:35

It's a little unsettling that posters are not allowed to discuss side effects of the vaccine at all, without being accused of scaremongering

I’m finding the accusations about being false and deliberately negative scary rather than unsettling.
On Irish radio today, people rang in about the side effects of AZ. There is no doubt there are issues caused and arising from this vaccine.
Whether it’s still beneficial to take it, is a matter for each individual to decide.
I had it and wish I hadn’t. I am not feeling well since. My chills are back along with leg cramps. I am scared.

boymum9 · 15/03/2021 20:49

I hope you're feeling ok OP!

I had the Pfizer vaccine 3 weeks ago now and since a few days after I have had an upset stomach and running to the toilet everyday. I also about 10 days after developed bad joint pain in my legs and bad muscle aches in my legs but that has subsided now.

Llh1979 · 15/03/2021 21:15

@Bluenightowl I totally agree with you I came in here looking to see if anyone else had the same as me and came across the OPs post I certainly wasnt trying to scare anyone I had loads of friends that have had it with no problems at all
The vaccine is a very personal decision and I wouldn't discourage any one for or against it but some people take it to far

PuzzledObserver · 15/03/2021 21:59

Every vaccine has side effects - they even give you a leaflet about them, and there’s a scheme for reporting new or unexpected ones.

It should not be a surprise that some people experience side effects, and that for an unfortunate few they are very unpleasant. The question to consider is - what proportion of people suffer side effects from the vaccine which are particularly severe or protracted, and can’t be dealt with by a couple of paracetamol and a good night’s sleep? And how does that compare with the risk of catching Covid and suffering long term effects, up to and including death?

dividedwefall · 15/03/2021 22:52

It's outrageous that posters are trying to stop discussion of side effects on this thread and others. You can't hide that something is happening by crushing any mention of it. These vaccines are very, very new and are being given under emergency authorisation. People should be aware of the side effects people are experiencing. Otherwise, how can they make an informed decision and give informed consent??

To the poster that said we don't discuss other vaccines and their reactions - well a) we do and b) it seems like a pretty important and current topic to be discussing. I hope Mumsnet don't bow to pressure from the sanctimonious crew who want only good news and happy comments about the vaccines to be allowed on Mumsnet lest anyone try to think for themselves.

Angrymum22 · 16/03/2021 07:51

As a prescriber of medication I have yet to come across a drug that doesn’t have potential side effects. Each drug prescribed comes with a data sheet with a list of known side effects. If you experience side effects that are already known they will be included on the data sheet. If you experience side effects not documented then you need to report these to your GP or via the yellow card system. They will be added to the list.
With any drug you have to weigh up the benefits against the risk you are trying to prevent.
I would be happier to spend a few days in bed post vaccine than to end up on a ventilator in an ICU.

Llh1979 · 16/03/2021 09:13

Wow OP you only wanted to know if anyone else felt the same
Far too many keyboard warriors I hope your feeling better
I've still got a fuzzy head but find that fresh air makes it worse 🤷‍♀️

WATSFORTEA · 16/03/2021 09:27

@Lisalisaandcultjam I wont dismiss your symptoms as my own Mother was ill after hers and my sister in law is also struggling with after effects from the vaccine. I sincerely hope you feel better soon and can put it all behind you x However are you going to have the second jab now after being this ill? Please keep us updated x

Lisalisaandcultjam · 16/03/2021 09:44

Thanks everyone, much appreciated. I hope you're all ok too. I do feel more reassured about how I'm feeling now. Even though I don't feel great still, I have a rational set of reasons for it but at first I found it difficult to find out anything other than the fact that you could feel the effects within a few days and up to a week.

If there are posts like mine, it might help put other people's minds at rest too. Nobody likes feeling crappy but if you have a reason for it, you are less likely to worry, especially when the news is currently filled with items about other nations pausing the use of vaccines because of reports of serious side effects. If you are worrying, the stress isn't good to add into the mix.

Will I have the second dose? Despite how I feel I think I probably will. I know how hard the illness is hitting many people and I don't want to be one of them. Yes, there are many who have it asymptomatically but who is to say whether you'll be one of those or not.

I had the astra Zeneca vaccine nearly 2 weeks ago and had mild aches/temperature for 2 days.
Just under a week after the vaccine I started to feel nauseous nearly all the time, and this hasn’t gone as yet.
Yesterday my vaccinated arm started aching, but otherwise looks normal. It doesn’t hurt today.
I have no idea if the vaccine is responsible for my nausea or if it is something else, but I have found it helpful to read that others may have symptoms that start (or continue) beyond the few days/week mentioned in most information about side effects.
If I don’t feel better next week I will contact my GP, but it’s manageable for now so I’m happy to adopt a wait and see approach for a few more days.
I will be having the second dose, I’m not worried about that.

BubbleBanana · 16/03/2021 13:07

I also wondered about this but couldn't find anything online! The search terms are impossible to google since you get flooded with general information regarding immediate side effects.

I had both Pfizer shots with virtually no side effects the next day. However exactly 1 week after the second one (which is supposedly the "stronger" shot, reverse effect of AZ) I felt run over by truck. Crippling headaches, nausea, full-body fatigue, brain fog, swollen glands, and that lasted for a full 7-8 days. There was no sore throat or congestion or anything that could justify "genuinely being ill" if that makes sense so I just had to muddle through those few days taking painkillers all the time.

According to official sources it should be impossible to get delayed systemic side effects (the only one recorded is a delayed arm rash). So I'm assuming that might have been a bug/virus, or just a stress/relief reaction from the body after all the pressure from this whole year was lifted post second injection.

likeamillpond · 16/03/2021 13:30

Similar here.

Felt fine the first day.
Then 5 days of headaches, joint pain and a finstant eeling of wanting to throw up.
About 3 days of feeling fine again, now I'm back to the headaches and wanting to be sick.
I'm in an area with virtually 0 cases so I know it's not covid.

likeamillpond · 16/03/2021 13:35

@fluffiphlox

I had AZ 9 days ago. A bit headachey for a few days. Fine now. This a terribly scaremongering type of post, wanting to sow doubt and mistrust.
Rubbish. Why can't people talk about their reactions? Frankly I find the whole Lets stick our heads in the sand ia la la approach mote disturbing.
Llh1979 · 16/03/2021 13:54

@likeamillpond I'm with you on that 1
I didn't see the post as scaremongering at all the OP asked a question of weather anyone was feeling the same considering millions have recieved it and only a few have reported this side effect
It very well could be a bug but it could also be linked to the vaccine unless people talk we will never know
Regardless of this feeling I will still be having my 2nd jab

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 16/03/2021 14:03

When you have the jab are you supposed to get tested for covid if you have any symptoms after ? As in if you have a temp it could be the vaccine or maybe a bug or maybe covid , just wondered if any guidance ? Or would covid show up because of vaccine ? Does anyone know

MRex · 16/03/2021 14:10

If you get a fever or headache within 48 hours it's likely the vaccine. Anything else or later symptoms and yes, you are supposed to test. I'm getting jabbed later (woohoo!), so I can confirm exactly what I'm told then.
MRex · 16/03/2021 14:11

The vaccine wouldn't show as covid on a PCR test for current infection, it would show as covid on an antibody test for previous infection.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 16/03/2021 14:12

@MRex thanks , due mine friday , although ds has woken with a cough so taken him for test today , fingers crossed its negative as his lateral flow test and his brothers have all been

MRex · 16/03/2021 14:14

I hope he just has a cold. We had similar last week, a mild cold but a bit of cough meant we had to test. Results were back early hours of the morning, so very quick.

GrumpyHoonMain · 16/03/2021 14:15

Having recurring side effects that return within 2-4 weeks is commonplace for most vaccinations. I was warned about this with the flu vaccine and was warned when we took DS for MMR too. Take some paracetamol, go to bed, and if you feel worse than contact 111 for advice.

poppycat10 · 16/03/2021 16:03

It's worth reading this for information about side effects: www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine-adverse-reactions/coronavirus-vaccine-summary-of-yellow-card-reporting

QueenPaw · 16/03/2021 16:48

I don't think there's anything wrong with discussing side effects at all but I think people either need to not read them if they're likely to worry or realise there can be side effects, the same as if you take any drug

I've posted this before but I take a medication weekly. Day 1 I get a headache, shivery/cold/hot and sweaty. Day 2 I feel faint and sick, and my bones hurt like fuck and often the headache continues, day 3-7 are fine then it's back to day 1 again
It's NORMAL to have side effects, and when I get them I just think "well it means it's working"
I get it's probably scary if you don't take medication etc but it's like the flu jab, some people are fine, some are unwell but just plan for an easy day/book it when you're not working and rest
