So long as it picks up again after the 4 weeks it just puts us annoyingly on time. When we were looking forwards to getting everyone done three weeks early.

TJ17 · 17/03/2021 20:04

I just think that with the promising effect on transmission even if us youngsters aren't done yet we will still see the benefit from having everyone else fully vaccinated!
The chances of us contracting will be a lot lower and we would hopefully only have it mildly or maybe even A symptomatically without putting any vulnerable unknowingly at risk.

springhasalmostsprung · 17/03/2021 20:14

@TJ17 that's very true

carolinesbaby · 17/03/2021 20:45

It pretty much puts paid to my chances of visiting my parents this summer though.... even if there's some sort of vaccine passport for European travel, I won't have been vaccinated so won't be able to go.

You’ll most likely to be able to travel with a pcr
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/03/2021 22:17

I am quite gutted tbh, being 49 and all!
However I am glad they’re going to use the remaining doses to focus on picking up the over 50s and vulnerable who have been missed. It seems like there is a lot that can be done to increase uptake if time and resources are thrown at it (like the Leicester GP who found if he called his patients personally most of the hesitant took it up) and I am certain more lives will be saved and thus normality reached sooner by diverting effort into achieving the highest possible uptake there than taking the easy route and doing someone like me who is keen but not particularly vulnerable (and probably had it mildly a year ago anyway).
I am looking forward to seeing how high an uptake they can manage and I am optimistic they can really build on the general enthusiasm so far to get it even higher.

TeaInTheGarden · 17/03/2021 22:37

Oh well my optimism from this morning seems to have cursed us!!

I was really hopeful of having 2 doses in time to go on holiday in August. Very much a first world problem of course- but if families can’t go away and older people can, it’s going to be extremely unfair.
Especially on kids who have given up so much over the last year that they will never get back. A year in the life of an 8 year old is huge compared to an older adult ☹️
Hopefully there will still be a way for unvaccinated to go on holiday. Hopefully our rates will be low enough for other countries to let us in anyway..?!

Furries · 17/03/2021 22:42

Looking back on my younger years, I don’t think I could ever have imagined myself saying “I wish I was 50” 😂. Am so near, but not quite there.

As others have said, we’re still on track for the original timetable - and realistically, who would have thought we’d be in this position 6 or 8 months ago.

I therefore renew my ticket for the positivity train!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 17/03/2021 22:49

I know this won't help with peoples holidays but remember this. These people are still going to get jabbed on time and be getting their second doses. Which means less in hospital or dieing and lockdown easing

MissConductUS · 17/03/2021 23:37

Good news from across the pond too. We're now doing 2.4 million jabs per day and that number has been steadily rising. When the J&J vaccine was approved that was a big bump in supply, especially since it's a single dose.

The vaccination program here was a bit bumpy in January but is firing on all cylinders now. I've had both doses of the Pfizer vaccine and DH had his first 10 days ago.
😃

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 18/03/2021 01:22

There are now less than a thousand people in hospital on a ventilator

louisejxxx · 18/03/2021 07:13

Can anyone remember when we get the announcement to confirm if the next phase of reopening is going ahead? Is it 2 weeks before i.e. 29th March?

KikoMiko · 18/03/2021 07:40

I thought I'd read a week before for each stage to be confirmed.
carolinesbaby · 18/03/2021 08:11

I thought stage 1 was in parts a and b - so 29th March was approved at the same time as 8th March?

TJ17 · 18/03/2021 08:17

To be honest with going abroad this year I think the issue is going to be more with the other countries than it is the UK! Don't forget some are entering a third wave and are nowhere near on the vaccine front. I'd hate for all our effort to go to waste because people couldn't wait just a few more months to go abroad.

For me, after this last year I'm just going to be so grateful to see friends and family this year and do the simple things like take the children fun places, go to restaurants, shows etc

I feel like surely we can wait to go abroad just that little bit longer when we have so much more to gain in the coming months.

This time last year we had no idea if there would ever be a vaccine so we can't get greedy or impatient now.

JemimaPyjamas · 18/03/2021 08:43

Does anyone know what’s happening with Moderna and J&J? I’ve not looked in detail but I’m guessing the supply issues are mainly to do with AZ...?

BessMarvin · 18/03/2021 08:45

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-response-spring-2021/covid-19-response-spring-2021 says It takes around four weeks for the data to reflect the impact of the previous step and the Government will provide a further week’s notice to individuals and businesses before making changes. The roadmap therefore sets out indicative, “no earlier than” dates for the steps which are five weeks apart. These dates are wholly contingent on the data and are subject to change if the four tests are not met.

So that means we'd know on 5th April if 12th April is going ahead?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/03/2021 09:01

TJ17 - yes but people who are really desperate to go abroad are mostly that way because they have close family living abroad who they haven’t seen for over a year rather than because they fancy a holiday in the sun.
I don’t think it’s appropriate to talk about people being greedy or impatient under those circumstances.

carolinesbaby · 18/03/2021 09:01

TJ17 I don't know if it's greedy to want to visit my mum :-(

EasterIssland · 18/03/2021 09:11

another greedy one who hasn't seen her nearly 2yo nephew and wont be able to see him til he's 2.5 ... last time he was 8m and was in hospital as he was quite ill.

Think twice before who you call greedy as you dont know what other people's life will be like

TeenMinusTests · 18/03/2021 09:21

Can we try not to argue on this thread . It is my solace.

Lets assume TJ17 didn't mean people who want to go abroad to see family, just people who want to holiday?

TeenMinusTests · 18/03/2021 09:25

And of course just wanting a holiday is a normal thing to want too as people didn't get away last year so will be wanting a break.

Pomegranatespompom · 18/03/2021 09:34

I’m desperate for a holiday - I don’t have a family excuse. But holidays are really important to us - family time/break from work. I crave a holiday like someone else might a pint 😊
Failing that, the weather needs to perk up- feeling sun on our faces would help us all.
🍷to all struggling.
Do we need a boozy picnic ?

but even then, I want to travel and ill do if I can, am I more greedy because I want to go to a country that is one of the safest covidwise than those that keep meeting with friends and going to pubs? Is it now greedy wanting t go on holidays ? is it greedy wanting to go to the pub?
