Boozy picnic sounds the best idea ever. I can finish work early for that, right?

Inastatus · 18/03/2021 10:29

@Reachersloveinterest - take the whole day off. It’s ok we’ll clear it with your boss!

I have been feeling a bit gloomy about the vaccine news, having just turned 48 and hopeful that I wouldn’t have much longer to wait. I’m trying to tell myself that it’s actually better for the doses to be used for those who are more vulnerable, in any country. But still a bit disappointing.

However I also read this yesterday, about a promising new inhaled treatment being trialled in the UK and Canada. I know we’ve seen lots of these that seem to have disappeared off the radar, but this one sounds particularly exciting (apologies if it’s already been shared by anyone):

@fadingfast they are still saying all adults are on track to be vaccinated by their July target.

1 dose tho, which means some will have theirs by October.
If 40s were vaccinated next/2 weeks then mostly everyone would be fully vaccinated by end of august/September

Yes I realise, and it’s not that long to wait I suppose but was hoping for at least part of the summer term to have built up a small bit of immunity...

tobee · 18/03/2021 12:25

No I understand @fadingfast but was just trying to cheer you a bit! Smile

springhasalmostsprung · 18/03/2021 12:37

DH and I have no risk factors (him very mild asthma) and are mid 30s, but I was still, selfishly, hoping to have been fully vaccinated before September when DC starts school.

To be honest though, I'm just grateful that my parents are vaccinated - one full, one waiting on second. And now that the working population are being vaccinated surely that can only been far less community prevalence and therefore much less risk anyway!

frozendaisy · 18/03/2021 14:24

We have made peace with the summer holidays this lunchtime. I was s bit gutted about the vaccination delay yesterday as I just want it over with for everyone. And we are group 10 so close but no cigar!

But having made peace in that Europe are behind in vaccination rollout (come on Europe) and we don't want to go away until we can have a proper holiday, mixing, wandering free etc. So plans on hold again.

It's only a 4 week delay. Still many reasons to be hopeful.

RockaLock · 18/03/2021 15:27

Moderna are apparently on track to deliver their first batch of vaccines to the UK in April.

I think there's still a good chance of over 40's, or maybe over 45's, to get their first doses sometime in May (although that may just be wishful thinking, as I'm 46 Grin)

I hope all 40s can have their first in may, if they dont, then that would delay the July deadline for everyone.

That's great news. Moderna is a brilliant company. They just went public in 2019, so quite young. Delivering the vaccine in a year is just amazing. They are currently trialing their first booster specifically tailored for variants. They have been a huge part of the program here and I know lots of people who've had the Moderna jab. Their main factory in Massachusetts is in an old building that used to produce film for Polaroid cameras. You have to be old like me to remember Polaroid cameras. Grin Go Boston!

good news, iim worried tho people will have fallen in the paranoia that AZ = kills and will refuse
Louisa7747 · 18/03/2021 16:13

@TeaInTheGarden I just saw that too! Brilliant news, such a relief (although we all knew that anyway) it’s lovely to have it confirmed by a regulatory body. How long do we think it’ll be before the EU countries that had paused it resume using AZ again?

MarcelineMissouri · 18/03/2021 16:27

First baby recorded as being born with antibodies after the mum had the vaccine when pregnant!

Let's tick that off as another unnecessary drama about AZ then🙄
