Deaths are coming down, though one is of course one too many.

Pomegranatespompom · 16/03/2021 17:16

Fabulous news @tobee

Plus good numbers today again.

Pootle40 · 16/03/2021 17:16

Is it though? Really? Death is part of life. We're not immortal so I've never understood that narrative particularly as many of the deaths will be down to other causes ultimately like terminal cancer.
OrangeBananaFish · 16/03/2021 17:32

Wonder how long it will be when the death rate is double figures on a week reported day (so not a Sunday or Monday) and then single figures over the weekend too

TeaInTheGarden · 16/03/2021 19:20

Unless today is a blip- I would hope today or tomorrow is the last day of triple figure covid deaths that we see..... and it really wasn’t that long ago we were saying this about deaths over 1000. The rate of decrease is just incredible!

TeaInTheGarden · 16/03/2021 19:21

And the number of first doses today was the highest Monday (reported on a Tuesday) figure since the start.... let’s hope this continues for the rest of the week!

bellagogosdead · 16/03/2021 22:14

dh off for his jab tomorrow.Grin

ConcernedOrange · 16/03/2021 23:44

My mum who just turned 50 very recently, 0 underlying HCs, has been offered her first jab 🙌

bellagogosdead · 17/03/2021 06:53

Got very excited about this and tried to book for my dh...and it says he currently isn’t eligible even though he’s 54?! Very annoying!

Exciting! Anybody reckon that it will stealthily open to under 50s later this week then?
EasterIssland · 17/03/2021 08:00

I hope so. Husband is 43 next Wednesday. It’d be lush if I could get him a vaccine for his bday next week (id not need to buy him a present Grin)

TeaInTheGarden · 17/03/2021 08:10

Does anyone know how many are in the over 50s group? Probably a difficult question as a lot will have been done under group 6....
Look like we should smash the mid April target out of the water though!
I’m 37 in a couple of weeks, wonder how long till I get mine. My ambitious hope would be end of April.... but I may be being crazy optimistic there. Guess it depends on level of uptake when it gets down to us.

JemimaPyjamas · 17/03/2021 08:36

@TeaInTheGarden I don’t think that’s crazily optimistic at all. I know it depends where you are in the country, but my brother (34) and his girlfriend (29!) are having theirs on Friday! Neither have any health issues either. I suspect the uptake where they are may be lower but still...

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/03/2021 08:41

I don’t think end of April is crazy optimistic in the least. I am betting mid April for someone in their 30s. I am 49 and I won’t be surprised if I get mine by the end of March.

TeenMinusTests · 17/03/2021 08:48

Tea 50-59 is 5.2 million according to www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55045639

TeenMinusTests · 17/03/2021 08:50

What we do have to remember is that up to now the numbers having second jabs has been relatively small. as we progress into April/May those figures go up. Hopefully the increased supply/capacity will keep track though so we can keep doing 1st jabs at the same rate.

Anyway, have to stop typing as need to get ready to leave for my vaccine appointment. Smile

TeaInTheGarden · 17/03/2021 09:43

Well I’m very glad to hear people don’t think I’m crazy there! I really hope we are all right and things continue at pace. Agree @TeenMinusTests the second doses will be an issue, fingers crossed!

TeaInTheGarden · 17/03/2021 09:49

@TeenMinusTests 5.2 million sounds big until you think of how quick we are going.... should be done very soon and on to the 40s! Amazing!

TeaInTheGarden · 17/03/2021 09:51

Imagine what vaccine the working age population is going to do to the spread of the virus! I’m genuinely excited for the next few months now.

BigWoollyJumpers · 17/03/2021 10:40

DH (56) got his on Monday, bit sore and achy, bit tired, but better today.

I just tried to book (53) no appointments! Will try again later.

im 36 and I was thinking end of April seeing how the 40s will have it in the next 2 months. This week also they're ramping up the vaccination, aiming to do between 800k-1m vaccines a day (so that 2nd vaccines don't have a knock on effect on 1st ones)
whatswithtodaytoday · 17/03/2021 11:18

I'm 39 and a half (annoying!) and I reckon mid to late April latest, especially if you keep checking the website every day to see if it's opened up to lower age groups. A lot of my over-40s friends have been vaccinated in the past couple of weeks and as far as I know they're not Group 6, so some areas are really powering through the age groups.

And remember you need to subtract NHS / social care staff and CEV / CV from that number

Ha ha ha - Nothing on internet within local area, was thinking of booking down in Sussex (!) from Surrey - Literally just got a text ping, and I can book the local GP centre. Isn't it weird how it works??! Going on Saturday.
