@chri55ie I got a call from my GP. I have no idea why. Perhaps uptake is low in my area. Very grateful to be called anyway.

tootyfruitypickle · 22/03/2021 19:21

@Frequentflier thanks for posting, gives me some hope!

EasterIssland · 22/03/2021 19:44

I don’t think my dh will be called by the gp. I volunteer there and got an email saying they were doing over 80s this weekend (2ns doses ) so doubt he’ll get called by them. Take up in Bristol has been quite quick but guess we are being put at stop for a while to do 2nds

New York announced today that starting tomorrow, anyone age 50 and over is eligible. It was just two weeks ago that they dropped it from 65 to 60, so they must be very confident of more supply coming.

BessMarvin · 23/03/2021 06:46

There's an article on the BBC www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56483445 along the lines of having a cold stops you getting covid. Which is good news for those of us whose children have started nursery and are still managing to bring a new cold home every week!

My aunt in Illinois tells me while right now everyone 65+ and certain key workers can get the vaccine, from mid april it's anyone 16+. Seems a bit bonkers to me - surely that'll mean a massive bunfight!

From the Telegraph:

"The number of deaths registered in England and Wales has fallen below the five-year average for the first time in six months, the ONS said.

Some 10,987 deaths were registered in the week to March 12, 4.4% below the average for the corresponding period in 2015-19.

It is the first time deaths have been below average since the week to September 4."

Pomegranatespompom · 23/03/2021 11:25

This was on the Sunday times - very reassuring re children.

FourTeaFallOut · 23/03/2021 11:36

Wow, that's a really good infographic. Quite startling seeing the burden of death rise through the ages like that. I'm not sure how anyone could complain at the order of the vaccines if they had that under their nose.

Pomegranatespompom · 23/03/2021 11:45

I felt less stressed about my DC @FourTeaFallOut They re desperate for a playdate outside and I think I will arrange it for next week when the rule of 6 is allowed.

I expect people will say the data is not accurate, well according to the claims on here, it's quite illuminating and fits with my experience working in a big NHS trust - especially the paediatric data.

There were quite a few unreliable sources causing panic about children which I felt was awful.

India today announced vaccinations open to everyone over 45. Pehaps this is not directly relevant to the UK but I do believe that there is no emerging from this hell until everyone is vaccinated across the world.

EasterIssland · 23/03/2021 16:02

that's good news about india, they were having problems with the virus so wonder whether it's to make sure they vaccinate as many as possible

Pomegranatespompom · 23/03/2021 16:03

Good news for India.

My area is offering drop in appointments now for the over 50s

Is there any chance this might mean they start to invite us late 40s soon does anyone reckon?! Surely it's not going to be just second doses for April and it looks like the over 50s will be done really soon doesn't it?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/03/2021 20:19

Well, they said the plan is to focus on the people from the earlier groups who declined and try and achieve as much coverage as possible among them, but who knows how successful they will be? If they can’t fill the slots from those groups they will have to invite the over 40s.

Frazzled2207 · 23/03/2021 20:22

...or presumably move on to 2nd doses. Unless they are pencilled in for completely different days. Looking at the numbers there must be an awful lot of january first doses that need their second now.
tootyfruitypickle · 23/03/2021 20:24

Opening up drop ins presumably wouldn't tackle the nervous though. There does seem to be a big take up at the moment of the drop ins, so obviously still many over 50s waiting for the call.
But it's given me some hope!

A friend in her 40s got done this week when she popped into a pharmacy to get her prescription at the end of the day and discovered a waiting list for spare vaccines.
I've not been able to find anything like that near me sadly!

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 23/03/2021 20:25

I need to read positive news.
Plonking my marker here.

tootyfruitypickle · 23/03/2021 20:26

The numbers vaccinated in jan were comparatively low though. Or are they planning just to power through a ton of second doses ?

Also, didn't most people have Pfizer in jan? What about all the AZ stock?

Nearly 10 million were vaccinated in December and January. 2.3m have had 2 shots. So that is 8 million that need a second jab very soon. But they would be mostly Pfizer but a fair few az
Oldtimer2020 · 23/03/2021 20:36

We’ve had some walk in appointments available for the over 50s at the large centre near me. At the beginning of the day they’ve been letting a few over 45s take some slots, just to make sure there are no vaccines going to waste. I definitely don’t believe it will be a case of no over 40s being done for the next few weeks. I think they will filter some in where they can, but the big push might not be till May?

tootyfruitypickle · 23/03/2021 20:39

I'm paying a bit more attention to the local Facebook from now on, in case they suddenly extend walk ins to over 45s.

I'm guessing this is how they will extend if they have spare doses while they aren't allowed to officially book us in?
