Nearly 10 million were vaccinated in December and January. 2.3m have had 2 shots.
So that is 8 million that need a second jab very soon.

That will take what? 2 weeks or so? If they knuckled down and just did 2nd doses for a bit? Possibly 3 weeks if they still did a few first doses too.

I can't remember when my parents had theirs. Late Jan possibly early Feb. They have their second appointment booked end of April. They are in the over 70s group.

OrangeBananaFish · 24/03/2021 07:00

On the local news this morning on the radio they said that the novovax vaccine was starting production and was set to be the 4th vaccine for us. It's not approved yet they mentioned, but I'm wondering is approval imminent?

Also mentioned the telegraph having a story about children being vaccinated by August

louisejxxx · 24/03/2021 07:01

I think most of that 10 million would have come in the last 2 thirds of January as well, so that amount having had 2nd doses seems about right.

My Gran had her 1st dose on 29th Dec and had her 2nd on Sat just gone.

Is Novavax the one being manufactured in the NE? Hopefully that should mean less 'lumpy' supplies.
Frazzled2207 · 24/03/2021 08:43

@KikoMiko
Yes though also in India.
I think it takes a while to get these things up to maximum speed though.

TeenMinusTests · 24/03/2021 10:13

If you want to get an idea of how many second doses should be coming up, just look on the vaccination graphs for the number of first given 10-12 weeks ago.

So 20th Jan there were close to 5million cumulative first does given. 31st Jan was just over 9 million.

We are currently at 2.3 million second jabs. (~everyone who had first jabs to 11th Jan).
(Personal good news is that number now includes both my parents.)

tobee · 24/03/2021 13:34

My parents had there 2nd jabs yesterday. Pfizer. No side effects as of yet.

tobee · 24/03/2021 13:34

Their not the there

alf of adults in Scotland 'to be vaccinated by end of the day'
More than half of adults in Scotland will have received a first dose of coronavirus vaccine by the end of the day, Nicola Sturgeon says.

The First Minister has also confirmed the Scottish Government is on course to have offered a first dose to all adults by the end of July, supplies permitting.

If they could vaccinate the 16 & 17yos before they start college in September that would be ace.

(For info Jersey has vaccinated some 16 & 17yos working in healthcare.)

That's brilliant news. And the drop in deaths is so amazing, too, and lovely to see after yesterday.

I have a hair appointment in 4 weeks. That feels like it's in touching distance now. The hedges are all greening up too. It will be so nice to get a bit further down the line and have even more reasons to be happy.

Frazzled2207 · 24/03/2021 20:23

@ACovidofWitches
Ha so do I! But I don’t know what to do about my boys’ hair. I was just ignoring it until the barbers opened. But now both are complaining about it being in their eyes so will have to open the dreaded mum hair salon again.

tootyfruitypickle · 24/03/2021 21:00

My neighbour is a hairdresser and it's clearly been a busy week for her this week
Hmm

tootyfruitypickle · 24/03/2021 21:01

Loads of sites offering over 50s walk in vaccinations here now - is this happening all over ? Feels they're on the verge of hitting this target as they're really going all out to advertise this which is so great !

carolinesbaby · 24/03/2021 21:15

Rates in my county are still dropping, down over 20% in the last week and 22% the week before. Despite the schools going back, most of the county is now showing white on the map. Our secondary school did nearly 2000 tests in the first week, not a single positive.

Pearl97 · 24/03/2021 21:17

Yes we have walk in today, tomorrow and Friday for over 50’s. I presume they can only do that if they are nearly done? What next? Have you heard of areas saying they aren’t allowed to move on to under 40’s but would if they could?

FourTeaFallOut · 25/03/2021 06:40

Apparently yesterday, of the 5k+ cases, only 225 were over 65 years old?

mobile.twitter.com/BristOliver/status/1374825019021402120

Is that right?

As I read it,the figures were from 18 March, over a week ago. But it is absolutely fantastic!

Most of the unfortunate deaths are in that age group, most of that 225 will have been vaccinated.
Perhaps unlikely that any of them will die in a few weeks time. And we know it is that age group which accounts for the majority of deaths.

Imfedupwithallofthis · 25/03/2021 07:26

Sorry, new here. Forgot the fanfare and cheesy grins! Can't find the fanfare, but can provide the grins

FourTeaFallOut · 25/03/2021 09:07

I think cheesy grins are the gold standard personally.

Yeah, I agree, it's going to really interesting to see what the hospitalisations like in a fortnight.

TeenMinusTests · 25/03/2021 09:47

I found this article on The Recovery Trial very interesting, showing how getting good data from the drugs they tried helped save lives.
