So I am a primary school teacher returning to work after maternity next week and was given a box of lateral flows in preperation. Today I recieved a surprise phonecall inviting me for the covid vaccine on monday. The lady who rang me was unsure why I was recieving the vaccine as I am only 33. After some digging it is due to my mental health and health anxiety. Apparently there is an outreach programme in my area with an allocation of vaccines. Anyway I was so happy!!
Fast forward two hours to my DH coming home from work looking terrible with a banging headache and sore throat. I just had a horrible feeling so I gave him one of my lateral flows (I know I shouldn't have). It was positive. Used another to check. Also positive. I have booked pcr test for tomorrow but he is positive isn't he?
I am so worried for him although he is not too bad atm. Also the timing. Me returning to work, my vaccine on monday now can't go ahead and my kids can't return to school on monday when they were so excited! Can't quite believe our bad luck!

Also, should I use the other lateral flows on myself and the kids or not bother?

I'm so sorry to hear this OP. I'm very glad you called 111 when you did - at least he's getting the best care. As others have said, age is on his side and the drs will be doing everything to help.
Is he on CPAP?

YukoandHiro · 08/03/2021 08:21

How are you feeling this morning?

He is on oxygen, IV antibiotics and had a steroid injection. He is very breathless.
I have vomited alot overnight but otherwise okay. Just tired

Fingers crossed once the meds kick in he will start improving. Please do take care of your self, worry and anxiety can be all consuming and can hinder your recovery.

Both my MIL and FIL were admitted to hospital with it in January, both in their early 50s. They also had oxygen, IV antibiotics and fluids and were home again within a week. I know it’s awful, especially as you can’t visit, but he’s really in the right place. In all cases where my friends have caught it their children haven’t so hopefully this will be the case for you too. Take care Flowers

CatBiscuits · 08/03/2021 10:18

I'm sorry to hear this, you must be v worried.

My brother is a dr and says that these days they do admit people to hospital at an early stage compared to the 1st wave when advice seemed to be to stay at home as long as you can (to avoid overwhelming the hospitals but meant people were coming in v poorly) and that they now know so much more about how to treat people with covid than they used to.

DBro says these 2 things mean they are seeing the v. VAST majority of people (esp those with no underlying conditions) admitted with COVID getting better and being discharged.

My lovely colleague (young and healthy like your DP) has just come home this week after a week in hospital with covid and pneumonia, it can hit people hard but they can and do recover.

Wishing you and your DH well xxx

My Mum who has copd , my Dad who is just very overweight and myself (I’m on the CEV shielding list) we all caught it new year and my Dad was the worst out of us all he got covid pneumonia . He was hospitalised for 13 days and is still quite poorly , today will be his first proper day out of the hospital other than going to hospital appointments in a taxi . Long covid is worse than the actual symptoms so take care of him when he gets home . I feel like a smoker of 100 and I only got it mild so take care of yourself aswell and try not to worry , he’s in the best place and it means you can try and get better now whilst he’s being looked after . My Mum really struggled looking after my Dad whilst being poorly herself .
It’s amazing what they can do in the hospital and he won’t be home til he is well enough to be and I think because of the stories of people dying from covid it makes everyone worry that their loved ones will go into hospital and not come home ... but they do ! He will get his oxygen levels up and then he will be back , they may just give him an oxygen machine at home for a short time !
Take care of yourself and your kids .
