So I am a primary school teacher returning to work after maternity next week and was given a box of lateral flows in preperation. Today I recieved a surprise phonecall inviting me for the covid vaccine on monday. The lady who rang me was unsure why I was recieving the vaccine as I am only 33. After some digging it is due to my mental health and health anxiety. Apparently there is an outreach programme in my area with an allocation of vaccines. Anyway I was so happy!!
Fast forward two hours to my DH coming home from work looking terrible with a banging headache and sore throat. I just had a horrible feeling so I gave him one of my lateral flows (I know I shouldn't have). It was positive. Used another to check. Also positive. I have booked pcr test for tomorrow but he is positive isn't he?
I am so worried for him although he is not too bad atm. Also the timing. Me returning to work, my vaccine on monday now can't go ahead and my kids can't return to school on monday when they were so excited! Can't quite believe our bad luck!

Also, should I use the other lateral flows on myself and the kids or not bother?

you poor thing. Any news from your DH? I have heard a couple of stories on here about DHs being taken off in an ambulance but coming back again 1-2 days later feeling much better so will hope it's a similar case for yours.
If you are really struggling don't hesitate to ask SIL or another (perhaps vaccinated?) member of family to help with the children. I totally would go and look after my nephew/niece in this situation.

Hi Op, my brother who is diabetic and in early 60s was admitted for covid a few weeks ago. He was in for around 10 days and then out and although had it pretty seriously is on the mend, and it sounds as though age (and hopefully your husband is not diabetic as well) is on the side of your husband, if he was ok your husband will be too. Don't expect the worst and sending you good wishes.

Thanks

I hope this horrible worrying time is behind you both very soon.

DianaT1969 · 08/03/2021 13:57

Wishing you both a speedy recovery.

trevthecat · 08/03/2021 16:24

How are you feeling? Any update on your husband?

VaccineYayVaccineNay · 08/03/2021 16:52

He rang me but he was really confused at first. He asked me 3 times for painkillers and I had to keep saying I am not there. Think he thought he was ringing from upstairs. His temp is still over 40 and he was very dehydrated. I feel so guilty he managed to get that dehydrated. He was sweating buckets and asleep most of the time. The good news is his oxygen was at 94

I know it's scary to hear he's running such a high temp but that's his immune system doing its thing getting rid of the virus. At that temp he will be confused/delirious a little. Good that he's in hospital to keep his oxygen up and his fluids going in.
Have you been able to speak to a nurse or doctor at all?

YukoandHiro · 08/03/2021 16:56

How are you feeling this afternoon OP?

Dwigvk · 08/03/2021 17:01

Can you speak to the staff there to tell them he's confused? It might not be as obvious to them and it might be important for them to know.

I agree with this. Dehydration can cause/contribute to confusion, they need to know and need to be making efforts to keep his fluids up OP. So sorry you're going through this. Wishing you and your family well.
NuclearDH · 08/03/2021 18:16

Definitely ring the ward and tell them he seems confused.

CrazyCatLazy · 08/03/2021 18:30

I’m so sorry to hear this, sending love and positive thoughts ❤️

Sorry to hear this OP. Just before Christmas my husband tested positive via two lateral flow tests. At the time he had no symptoms but he did get some later.

He bought a lateral flow home for me and I tested negative. On the back of this we decided he would isolate from the rest of the household to try to avoid passing it to anyone else.

We both got PCR tests the following day (he was allowed to take two asymptomatic household members) which confirmed what the lateral flow tests had said.

I realise that having your partner isolate from the rest of the household isn't practical or desirable for lots of people. But it was right for us.

Thanks
