So I am a primary school teacher returning to work after maternity next week and was given a box of lateral flows in preperation. Today I recieved a surprise phonecall inviting me for the covid vaccine on monday. The lady who rang me was unsure why I was recieving the vaccine as I am only 33. After some digging it is due to my mental health and health anxiety. Apparently there is an outreach programme in my area with an allocation of vaccines. Anyway I was so happy!!
Fast forward two hours to my DH coming home from work looking terrible with a banging headache and sore throat. I just had a horrible feeling so I gave him one of my lateral flows (I know I shouldn't have). It was positive. Used another to check. Also positive. I have booked pcr test for tomorrow but he is positive isn't he?
I am so worried for him although he is not too bad atm. Also the timing. Me returning to work, my vaccine on monday now can't go ahead and my kids can't return to school on monday when they were so excited! Can't quite believe our bad luck!

Also, should I use the other lateral flows on myself and the kids or not bother?

Hi everyone. The great news is that he has improved loads over the last 36 hours. His obs have all been in the normal range overnight. If he continues to improve he might come home tomorrow. So, so relieved!

alreadytaken · 13/03/2021 11:16

QuietBatPeople1 · 13/03/2021 11:35

Fantastic news!! So relived for you, take care

Unsure33 · 13/03/2021 11:44

So pleased . I have a work colleague in hospital at the moment and he is only mid 20s , the following day both parents were taken in as well .

All of them had severe vomiting as well as the breathing problems .

I hope people don’t get too complacent too soon .

VaccineYayVaccineNay · 13/03/2021 15:58

They gave him Baricitinib, an arthritis drug, as part of a trial. Could have been a coincidence but he started improving quickly after

VaccineYayVaccineNay · 14/03/2021 14:01

He is home 😊 very weak but home! Our 8 year old has mild symptoms now which is typical when their isolation was meant to end on tuesday. Positive on a lateral flow so have booked a pcr for him. Does anyone know if my isolation ends as planned or if my 10 days restarts again? I know that his brother and sister will have to restart their isolation periods.

Frazzled2207 · 14/03/2021 14:14

@VaccineYayVaccineNay
Great news about your DH, not so good about your 8yo but fingers crossed for super mild symptoms.
Assuming you've all isolated the whole time everyone else's isolation finishes as planned, except for your 8yo. It gets complicated however if for example someone gets ill the day after you finish your isolation.

QuietBatPeople1 · 14/03/2021 14:14

That is great news!

Bumpinthenight · 14/03/2021 14:46

Great news that your DH is home.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure all of you need to continue isolating be use of your 8 year old. Assuming that you have been isolating together you could get symptoms in 10 days time. And then your DS 10 days later and DD 10 days after that.... We had a family at work (5 children) who did just that. Nightmare!

conkersarebonkers · 14/03/2021 14:57

So glad to hear your DH is home!

Guidance on self isolation is here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection#if-you-live-in-the-same-household-as-someone-with-covid-19

"Your isolation period includes the day the first person in your household’s symptoms started (or the day their test was taken if they did not have symptoms) and the next 10 full days."

Your 8 year old with symptoms begins a new 10 day isolation period from the date their symptoms started, if the PCR is positive:

"If you develop symptoms while you are isolating, arrange to have a COVID-19 PCR test. If your test result is positive, follow the advice for people with COVID-19 to stay at home and start a further full 10 day isolation period."

But the rest of the household can end their isolation at the end of the original 10 days:

"If other household members develop symptoms during this period, you do not need to isolate for longer than 10 days."

Mindymomo · 14/03/2021 14:58

Great news that your husband is home and recovering. It will depend on whether your 8 year old is positive. If it is, you all start another period of 10 days isolation.

VaccineYayVaccineNay · 14/03/2021 15:00

Ah gosh it is so confusing. This has happened in real life too. Some people telling us we all isolate again and some saying just the 8yr old. I will have to ask test and trace when they ring tomorrow

I hope your little one feels better soon

Frazzled2207 · 14/03/2021 19:26

@conkersarebonkers is correct. Other than your 8yo SI finishes

Thank you. Does that mean my 5yo could go back to school on Wednesday if he has no symptoms after his 10 days are up?

I think so op.

CatBiscuits · 14/03/2021 19:46

I was in a similar position when my daughter tested positive right at the end of my isolation period. as I had already tested positive track and trace confirmed the clock would not restart for me only my daughter xx

I'm sure you're relieved to have your husband home. This link has a great visual on isolating www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance
