So I am a primary school teacher returning to work after maternity next week and was given a box of lateral flows in preperation. Today I recieved a surprise phonecall inviting me for the covid vaccine on monday. The lady who rang me was unsure why I was recieving the vaccine as I am only 33. After some digging it is due to my mental health and health anxiety. Apparently there is an outreach programme in my area with an allocation of vaccines. Anyway I was so happy!!
Fast forward two hours to my DH coming home from work looking terrible with a banging headache and sore throat. I just had a horrible feeling so I gave him one of my lateral flows (I know I shouldn't have). It was positive. Used another to check. Also positive. I have booked pcr test for tomorrow but he is positive isn't he?
I am so worried for him although he is not too bad atm. Also the timing. Me returning to work, my vaccine on monday now can't go ahead and my kids can't return to school on monday when they were so excited! Can't quite believe our bad luck!

Also, should I use the other lateral flows on myself and the kids or not bother?

Oh I'm so pleased for you.

ChameleonClara · 09/03/2021 11:08

Very pleased to read this update Flowers

Make him rest more than he would for another illness - covid is nasty. Extra time off work, extra rest where possible.

They say long covid is made more likely when recovery is rushed.

Notavegan · 09/03/2021 11:09

What a rollercoaster. Wishing you all a speedy recovery

Fantastic news, you must be so relieved!

As pps say please make him rest! covid can absolutely wipe you out which is weird and frustrating when you're not used to being ill or resting

VaccineYayVaccineNay · 09/03/2021 20:08

Unfortunately he is still in Sad his temperature and heart rate too high to come home

Sorry to that OP, he's in the best place though, they will be looking after him. I hope you are managing ok, still thinking of you.

Rainbowsandstorms · 09/03/2021 22:30

I really hope he improves and is able to come home soon.

Lubiluxe · 10/03/2021 07:01

Sorry to hear this op. I hope he is home soon and that you don't get too poorly.

Icequeen01 · 10/03/2021 07:51

Really sorry to hear this and I do hope your DH improves soon. I had Covid in January and was pretty poorly. I too went to hospital but just to A&E to get checked as my oxygen levels were constantly at 90-91. Luckily I didn't have to stay in as my lungs were clear so just a case of resting and recovering. I was very up and down with breathlessness and fevers for a good 10 days though. I'm 59 so a good bit older and I have now fully recovered.

I just wanted to mention Op that when you do think about rebooking your jab you need to leave 28 days since you tested positive or they won't do it.

Good luck to your DH.

Damn - was really hoping he would be home - but as pp have been saying, they really know so much more about how to treat COVID now, so his chances are very good. Keep an eye on your own health and take whatever help you need from you friends and family.
Icequeen01 · 10/03/2021 08:16

I'm so sorry to hear that Op. I'm sure you are worried sick but he's in the right place and being monitored closely. You must remember to look after yourself too.

VaccineYayVaccineNay · 10/03/2021 08:26

I am fine other than mild muscle aches in my leg. Day 5 now so just hoping I stay well.
