Hi,

Was starting to feel a bit more positive - a bit lighter, but it sounds as though people are already behaving like we're out of lockdown, according to latest hotspot data.

I felt a difference earlier today when walking the dogs. I noticed there were bigger groups together, likely not the same household. I haven't seen this in such bulk for months.

Please someone tell me this is just a blip.

The risk of transmitting the virus outside in mild, dry weather is tiny.

Our local parks were packed. It was nice to see children out playing again.

Rates in our borough are extremely low now. Unless you're ECV - and I saw a friend of mine who is out for a walk, as she judged that the benefit outweighed the miniscule risk - bumping into friends in the park isn't something to actively avoid.

CassiaLime · 26/02/2021 20:55

I see the usual suspects are put in force , misery plopping away Grin Some posters must absolutely live for these threads

Just keep on keeping on OP- it'll come right

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2021 20:56
@TheDuchessofHaste they won't close them again if cases rise. They'll close them if hospitalisation numbers rise. They don't care about how many people get the virus, they care if the NHS can cope. As long as those numbers are dropping/ staying the same, the number of positive cases could be in the millions. And those numbers will drop, because of the vaccine.
This 100%

There will always be cases

But as long as nhs isn’t over run or lots of deaths then it’s good

The vaccine is helping this

Mainly old /vulnerable dying so hence why these get jabbed first

Tho tech if they ate inside shielding then not at risk

And teachers /police etc should be jabbed

Parky04 · 26/02/2021 20:59

Loved today. Lots of people out and about and there were a lot of teenagers having a game of football. Good for them I say.

This!!

I swear there are posters on MN actively desperate for hospitalisation and deaths to rise so they can say "you see - its because of all those families mixing in the park, if only they'd stayed at home like they were told"

@HugeAckmansWife

100% agree that case numbers will becone far less important. Millions get common colds every year but we don't record it or worry about it because its not harmful to most. As vaccines come through, as a pp said, hospitalizations and deaths will fall dramatically and that's what matters. The R number ceases to matter if what is being passed around is no longer lethal to many at all. We can never be Covid free, or death free and I am more worried about prolonged OTT measures than I am about groups of people outside at this point.
This is what I don't understand. I countries where infections are high and prevalent then mutation may happen regardless of how many end up hospital ir die a r above one means exponential growth. Thats what we kept getting told an now r 1.5 with school open no problem. Schools open in England in full March 8th..top 9groups won't if had 2 jabs until end of April. Kids so take infectious home to parents jvt admitted that. Many teachers have got covid and been unwell and last time I checked most were not 70 or 80 year old. Yes some are 50_65 but many were 30 to 50.
Sunnydays999 · 26/02/2021 21:02

People are meeting . The elderly lady across the road is always meeting with friends now they are vaccinated . It was going to happen .

MrsIsobelCrawley · 26/02/2021 21:04

We really need to suppress the virus. Vaccination alone will not do the job.

All it would take is for the South African variant, or one of the other E484K variants, to take hold and we would soon find ourselves right back to square one.

Etinox · 26/02/2021 21:06

What was said in the press conference?

addicted2spaniels · 26/02/2021 21:06

DD and I had the afternoon off, and went to a local NT park to walk the dogs. It was really busy, and you know what, it was lovely. Every single person we met smiled, said hello, started a conversation. Even really young people who usually are heads down and no eye contact!

Human contact isn't something to be feared. As the weather improves, people will go outdoors again. It's a good thing.

PracticingPerson · 26/02/2021 21:07

This is accurate but not many want to hear it.

We might get lucky... unlike last year!

KnobJockey · 26/02/2021 21:09

@3asAbird many teachers may have been unwell, but a tiny, tiny percent have become ill enough to be hospitalised. The same goes for supermarket workers, etc. Compared to the % of 70 or 80 year olds, it's miniscule.

They can't keep on risking the economy and people's mental health on the risk of mutations. They are keeping us in as long as possible (end of June) in order to reduce it as much as possible before then. In reality, science shows that mutations make the virus weaker, so the hope will be that it is similar enough to the original to be caught by the vaccine, but a little bit weaker each time.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 26/02/2021 21:10

my adult dd has been mixing with friends, regardless of any road map

it is the sunshine,
people are out,
there is nothing else to do
everyone wants to enjoy the spring flowers

MichelleScarn · 26/02/2021 21:12

yes, so do i

i work with doom mongers who still go on about the beaches!

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 26/02/2021 21:14

i have had the first half of the vaccine, as had my dm and my dh
so we are far less worried.

Dongdingdong · 26/02/2021 21:16

Was starting to feel a bit more positive

Why do I not believe this?

IcedPurple · 26/02/2021 21:17

The overall trend is that cases are way down and the vaccination programme is going superbly. They are just emphasising the less positive aspects because they want to scare people into compliance for a few more months. I think that ship may have sailed however.

icantthinkofanamehelp · 26/02/2021 21:18

Does anyone know what was said?

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 26/02/2021 21:21

Just go on sky news website. They have a run down of the briefing

No one is listening we are taking our lives back At last
Zandathepanda · 26/02/2021 21:26

Some in group 6 haven’t even had 1 jab yet so won’t be done til June

MrsScarlett007 · 26/02/2021 21:27

JVT should have been at BJ’s press conference!

I really like him!

PracticingPerson · 26/02/2021 21:28

No one is listening we are taking our lives back

This sort of rubbish was what was said before the last massive fuck up.

I'm hoping it doesn't happen again and focussing on the vaccines but it is hard not to feel a sense of deja vu.
