Hi,

Was starting to feel a bit more positive - a bit lighter, but it sounds as though people are already behaving like we're out of lockdown, according to latest hotspot data.

I felt a difference earlier today when walking the dogs. I noticed there were bigger groups together, likely not the same household. I haven't seen this in such bulk for months.

Please someone tell me this is just a blip.

Since March 2020 we have had one of the biggest breaches of our human rights in our history which has gone on about 12 months too long.

gallbladderpain · 26/02/2021 22:55

@Lynora

You are doing your child more harm by not taking them to the park on a sunny day than covid ever could.
Seriously wise up. You don't have to go to a park packed full of people to enjoy a sunny day. I enjoyed a sunny day with my children today (who have had no contact with anyone in the last year, no school or anything due to cev) We had a lovely day playing in the sun and didn't come into contact with other people.
islockdownoveryet · 26/02/2021 22:57

@Brunt0n

If we can’t go for a walk outside with mates after 19 million of the oldest and most vulnerable are vaccinated then when the hell can we?

I’ve followed every rule but god, a line has to be drawn!

Definitely this. There is less risk outside nobody said there is no risk but for gods sake there us a risk crossing the road .
Tigresswoods · 26/02/2021 22:59

It's propaganda. In the nicest possible way that's absolutely it.

They know people will start to relax so this is to keep us in line.

We'll get there...

Inkpaperstars · 26/02/2021 22:59

@Dongdingdong

I get the feeling that some people on MN are loving the doom and gloom and whenever things start to look a bit more positive they can't cope with it.

This. But the doommongers’ days are numbered!

Yes, I don’t think that. I don’t see all these so called ‘doom mongers’. Just people who have been burned enough times by people making things worse for everyone and making it less, not more, likely that things improve.

To be fair there may be some doom mongers and I haven’t seen them, but very often anyone choosing to face reality gets that label thrown at them. I think you can be optimistic and careful at this point.

islockdownoveryet · 26/02/2021 23:00

Another thing people say on here I noticed more people out today, but you were out , yeah but I had to get essentials or I was on my daily exercise.
Ffs we all have reasons to get out .
Stop judging 12 months on I don’t care that my neighbour met her neighbour in the garden and I don’t blame her .

Incogweeto · 26/02/2021 23:00

I feel so weary of this cycle that we seem to be trapped on.

Our government veering from panic to 'it'll be gone by Easter/Christmas/21st June' and the public just totally lap it up. And round and round we go.

Everyone thinks that their newfound 'optimism' and 'that's it done now' is vaccine related, but it's just the same narrative we heard last summer with 'eat out to help out' and 'there must be no second wave' blah blah.

Do I want everything to be ok? Absolutely. Do I trust that it will be? Nah. Not under this government and having to share a map with so many selfish, misguided wankers.

Dolciedolly · 26/02/2021 23:01

@IcedPurple

Parents with children, the children playing together, the parents sitting together chatting. What is wrong with people?

I guess some of them are unable to mind their own business.

I know right ... putting the fear of god into children
icantthinkofanamehelp · 26/02/2021 23:04

Good to see people waking up to this.
Lockdown faituge. It was always going to happen

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/02/2021 23:06

More out because clearly the weather is a lot better and people have been stuck in for a long time.
Anyone who listened to the press conference would of heard him say we could only have restrictions lifted if we are careful and of the data supports
If people choose to ignore that , then thats on them.
Loads on here were saying they were going to do what they want soon enough anyway.

BarbaraofKent · 26/02/2021 23:09

I would bet my house that some of the people on this thread were panicking about a 'VE Day spike' last year!

I don't often agree with you. But this with bells on.

Stop watching the bloody updates

Dustyboots · 26/02/2021 23:12

I would bet my house that some of the people on this thread were panicking about a 'VE Day spike' last year!

Similarly I would bet that many of those on this and other threads were the ones denying (a year ago) that Covid was a problem. Those laughing at people who wanted the government to take it seriously and shut our borders etc

I remember the moral panic over buying Easter eggs (people literally shaking) and the conga line of death 😂. There's evidence that no spread was linked with the beaches of doom yet people still think a sunny afternoon is the problem. It's a great distraction from hospital spread.
Dustyboots · 26/02/2021 23:14

I agree with you @Xenia. Totally totally agree with you here.

That's why I want our government to end this responsibly - slowly, carefully - open schools up carefully. Otherwise the breach of our human rights will go on for much much longer.

BarbaraofKent · 26/02/2021 23:16

Our government veering from panic to 'it'll be gone by Easter/Christmas/21st June' and the public just totally lap it up. And round and round we go.

When?

When did the government say it would be gone by last Easter or Christmas? Who thought Covid would be 'gone' by Christmas, at the peak of the time when people get ill every single year anyway, and without a vaccine? The government never said that.

BarbaraofKent · 26/02/2021 23:18

Ah, the conga line.... Makes me feel all nostalgic! Grin

SymphonyofShadows · 26/02/2021 23:18

Jesus there are some dickheads on this thread. I lost a close family member who had mild symptoms and suddenly developed breathing difficulties and died within hours. Another friend who is a medic had mild symptoms and was recovering at home, and noticed his breathing had changed. He took his oxygen levels on an oximeter and realised that something was very wrong, and called 999. It saved his life.

In both cases previously fit and healthy men in their 40’s, but crack on and call me a doom monger, just don’t whine if it comes to your door and you don’t breeze through it.

RubyViolet · 26/02/2021 23:19

@nordica

I noted how Jonathan Van Tam said there are still about 40 million jabs to give (1st and 2nd doses combined) before the top 9 priority groups are really protected. And yet all you see on threads here is people saying the vulnerable have now been vaccinated it's all fine... His analogy about being 3-1 in the lead in a football match not being the time to let your guard down because the other side can still win was a good one.
This can’t be stated enough. We have a long way to go. Maybe the Government shouldn’t have been quite so triumphant announcing loosening the measures. They have given everyone a false sense of security, a false sense of where we are in the big picture. I can’t blame people for listening to that press conference and thinking that we had this licked.
siestalady · 26/02/2021 23:20

And the crying and shaking over people buying non-essential milk to put in their coffee (just use cheese ffs - don't you know there's a pandemic on?)

Wondered when you’d show up, spouting your usual tripe.

BonnieDundee · 26/02/2021 23:25

Amazed that people think its unreasonable to take kids to the park on a sunny day when the risk outside is so minimal. It's awful how the government have terrified people with their narrative of doom.

Do you seriously think you're going to catch covid at the park?
