Hope no-one minds me starting this. Apologies if another has started too. Please can someone add the pretty pictures.

NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Please note, this is a thread to share good news and for wobblers to be reassured. Doomploppers will be met with scorn and derision!

starfish88 · 09/03/2021 01:56

I think Pfizer said something similar way back before all these varients were found about if the spike mutates too much then its great because it can't bind anyway. So the vaccine should be effective for mutations because they can only mutate so much but this was before it was put to the test! But it still looks like it does provide some effect anyway and we can boost the people who really need it if needed.

TeenMinusTests · 09/03/2021 06:39

Online booking has changed from 56 on Sat to 55 at some point yesterday.

Frazzled2207 · 09/03/2021 11:35

I can't find a specific article yet but twitter and Guardian reporting that the Pfizer vaccine works with the Brazilian variant. Not sure which one though weren't there two dodgy Brazilian variants.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 09/03/2021 12:05

Yes there was an original Brazil one and a more mutated version. As the leak from oxford said the AZ was ok for the Brazilian too. Looks like things are going to be fine vaccine wise.

Bordois · 09/03/2021 12:50

Looks like things are going to be fine vaccine wise.

You just know there will be something else to doomplop about 😉

Frazzled2207 · 09/03/2021 13:31

@OrangeBananaFish
We are also booked for France in august and I don’t think it’s as unlikely as all that.
Regardless of what is happening with vaccines the general infection level ought to be low enough that the French want the British to come. Whether or not we are allowed to go is of course another matter.
However as you say if there is any chance of having to quarantine it will be a non-starter for us. Although I’m hoping both me and dh being vaccinated (not yet but hopefully soon) could be a get out clause.

Oh it's already started. The doomplopping is never going to end.
carolinesbaby · 09/03/2021 14:08

I really, really, really want to go to France in August!

ilovenuts · 09/03/2021 15:28

I am going to Cyprus, will have had both jabs and Covid by summer so bring it on!

ArianaVenti · 09/03/2021 16:04

Has anyone come across anything about children and foreign travel btw? We'd love to go to Cyprus this and will both have been vaccinated by then, but obviously the dc won't. Will there still be a system for testing as for last summer or will travel be adults only??

MarshaBradyo · 09/03/2021 16:31

It feels very unknown

I’d love to book but I’m more concerned about potential hotel quarantine than refund or moving it

carolinesbaby · 09/03/2021 16:37

We haven't booked
Because at the moment regardless of what the host country says, the U.K. government say we can't travel and until that is changed we can't get insurance or a guarantee we won't lose our money if something happens.

Trying hard to be positive today but had a strange day at work and feeling a bit down.

louisejxxx · 09/03/2021 16:43

Just had a text from my dr saying they had appointments available for the vaccine so I called thinking they must have spare, but turns out I’m in group 6 after all! Apparently with asthma it’s really down to your individual drs surgery. Couldn’t book it in yet anyway as need to be 4 weeks clear of covid, but still nice to know when I ring in 10 days time that I’ll be able to book in.

TheChineseChicken · 09/03/2021 18:08

That’s great @tobee

Grin
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 09/03/2021 18:17

Cases 7 day average 5800

Deaths 7 day average 189

Still dropping nicely

tobee · 09/03/2021 22:35
  1. where is everyone?
  2. do we need a new thread?
  3. has a new thread started (and nobody's told me 😢)?
Pomegranatespompom · 09/03/2021 22:38

Great numbers past few days.
I’ve reduced SM time - finding it all too irritating! Plus been busy @ work.
Hope thread keeps going - it helps a lot of people I think.

TeaInTheGarden · 09/03/2021 22:53

I’m here!
Great news about the vaccines and variants ☺️
Huge increase in testing numbers due to schools, so the cases data is good, but we shouldn’t stress if it bumps around over the next week or so I guess.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 10/03/2021 02:24

Are they going to separate out the data from schools as well as giving us the overall UK case numbers?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 10/03/2021 02:26

Look how many people we have vaccinated already Grin

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

Are they going to separate out the data from schools as well as giving us the overall UK case numbers?
I think they could usefully separate the LFT tests and results from the others, as LFT give a higher 'false positive'. Hence once the kids start testing at home they will do a proper test if the LFT is positive. With so many LFT being done false positives could start to skew number of cases when they get low enough.
TheChineseChicken · 10/03/2021 06:53

I’m here! Also been very busy with work. It feels like there is less bad news to balance at the moment, which is good.
