NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Please note, this is a thread to share good news and for wobblers to be reassured. Doomploppers will be met with scorn and derision!

I was wondering today about when on the roadmap schools may return to normal....
Things like lunch clubs, going to the library, playing on the adventure playground, moving classrooms again, teachers allowed to circulate the room, using lockers, normal start and finish times....
My son goes to middle school so more like a small secondary school, and he is in a class bubble in one room all day with no practical subjects and all of the above mentioned restrictions. Not to mention no school trips, events etc. I’m really hoping he can get normality in school before we start allowing the vaccinated to go abroad, which could happen in May....
Anyone any idea??

No idea but hopefully warmer weather will make it better for them.

DD wears glasses to see the board. Whatever she does they steam up. So she takes them off and squints. She said she learnt less well at school as a result. Maybe worse cos of the weather?! Anyway, will see how it goes and if she's really struggling I'll pull her out for a bit longer until the masks go - surely at Easter?

louisejxxx · 11/03/2021 06:36

I think hopefully after May half term it would be nice if they could start doing things like that.

My ds is in year 6 and they are already putting out feelers for the usual leavers residential that they do in June/July and it is looking likely they can go ahead.

tootyfruitypickle · 11/03/2021 06:38

She wasn't expecting to mind masks either, doesn't bother her at all in shops etc. So there must be a lot of children struggling . Realise that's not good news but I'm thinking of it in context with how fast things are improving so surely it won't be long until schools do as well?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/03/2021 07:49

Our secondary says they will be starting after school activities again after Easter. I don’t think it’s a roadmap thing though, I think it’s them figuring out a covid safe way to deliver more than the minimum.

Sorry your dd had to bad day Tooty.

There's a spray you can on Amazon that stops them steaming up - my DH has to wear masks and glasses in chiller environments for work and he swears by it, maybe that would help?

The National youth agency (which sets the policy for uniformed groups like Scouts and Guides) has said that youth groups like that can resume outdoor meetings for 15 you g people plus leaders from 29th March, and indoors again from 12th April. Can't wait.

No article yet but just pasted from guardian news feed- could be big news

A new antibody drug “reduces hospital admission or death from Covid-19 by 85%”, the pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has announced.

PA reports:

The drug, called VIR-7831, is a new treatment for people with mild to moderate illness, and the study has been so successful that it has been stopped early.

GSK and its partner, Vir Biotechnology, plan to immediately seek an emergency use authorisation in the United States and approval in other countries, including potentially in the UK.

Monoclonal antibodies are laboratory-produced molecules that mimic human antibodies.

The global phase 3 clinical trial based its initial analysis on data from 583 patients at risk of hospital admission.

GSK said VIR-7831 works in two ways - by blocking the virus’s entry into healthy cells and also clearing infected cells.

A separate laboratory study has found that VIR-7831 is effective against the main current Covid-19 variants, including the Kent, South African and Brazilian variants, the firm said.

VIR-7831 is designed to be given as a single intravenous (IV) infusion.

Dr Hal Barron, chief scientific officer at GSK, said: “We are pleased that this unique monoclonal antibody was able to bring such a profound benefit to patients.

“We look forward to the possibility of making VIR-7831 available to patients as soon as possible and to further exploring its potential in other settings.”
