Hope no-one minds me starting this. Apologies if another has started too. Please can someone add the pretty pictures.

NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Please note, this is a thread to share good news and for wobblers to be reassured. Doomploppers will be met with scorn and derision!

I'm here. Started a new job on Monday so have been busy with that and not had much time. Actually getting back into a routine of leaving the house for work every day after a year is much harder than I thought it would be

I’m here! Now ds2 is back at school I am busy with projects I can actually concentrate on rather than having to stop every few minutes to check he is still awake. Ds1 is supposed to go back today but that’s a little more complicated. Wish us luck...

The rolling average of deaths has fallen under 200 (190).

TheChineseChicken · 10/03/2021 08:11

Our flight to France in the May half term has been cancelled. Not a surprise. Wonder if we can find anything in the U.K.?!

Inastatus · 10/03/2021 08:35

Checking in. DC’s have settled back to school nicely and I’ve got my jab this afternoon! Great news about the vaccines and variants 😀

grinningninny · 10/03/2021 09:32

I am actually crying with happiness about the news of the vaccines working against the variants!

What an awful year we have all had. Some hope at last.

I have had Covid, luckily mildly and one dose of the AZ vaccine so starting to feel optimistic now

BigWoollyJumpers · 10/03/2021 10:42

Dh and I were talking holidays last night.

We were actually of the opinion that the very last thing we want to do is to go away with each other, when we have spent the last year seeing each other all day every day! Does anyone else not feel like that? Seriously, we can't think of anything worse than being in a smaller room, less space then we have at home!! Also, don't want to be anywhere where there are lots of other people......urgh.

Our outside thought is driving to Switzerland/Italy to the mountains, but still, as others have said, what is the status of "children" travelling. Neither of ours are children anyway, 18 and 24, so all adults.... how will that work?

We have two small children so always rent a house so we can sit in the lounge in the evenings. But all our holidays have been in the U.K. for the past 4 years or so

Hooray for back to school, dd (Y13) was back on Monday, no positive LFT results in Y12 or 13. Ds (Y10) is back today and has gone off full of enthusiasm. It’s like someone turned their sparkle back on. I’ve just booked my second vaccine (NHS, community nurse). Today’s definitely a good news day in our house.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2021 11:15

This is the first day when everybody has gone back to school in so long that I had forgotten how noisy the washing machine is when the house it quiet.

The lfts went fine at my ds's school - nothing to report from 600 children. So that's good.

grinningninny · 10/03/2021 11:16

I think I would feel ok abroad in the hotel, on the beach, around the pool. What is making me slightly panicky is the taxi, airport but mostly on the plane surrounded by other people. Even though i will have been vaccinated and had Covid I think i have been mentally scarred by the past year

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2021 11:21

I think lots of people will be like that, I know I am. I think though, that the gradual unlocking might be the way we inch out psychologically too so by the time we can get on a plane then getting on a plane won't be the stretch we imagine it to be right now.

Not that I am getting on a plane, it's sunny Wales for us this year!

Bigwooly I was telling my son the other day if our July holiday for 10 of us is cancelled again (last year's was) I don't really mind as holidays always mean much smaller bed room and worse just about everything and being force fed 3 massive meals a day I don't want (although he said the food is one of the things he is looking forward to) and if it is cancelled may be I can take 10 holidays for the same price on my own instead. Howeer I do hope for the sake of the family it can go ahead.

Daughter just booked May flights for honeymoon (after the law legal change takes effect on travel abroad from England) so hopefully that can go ahead. Best to be positive.

Is there a legal change planned? Is it 'safe' to book a trip? Or will it be, well you booked it while it was still banned?
grinningninny · 10/03/2021 11:47

yes I was thinking once things start to open up, I should go round a few shops, have an outside meal, maybe even go swimming, to try and get some confidence back up. DH is going on and on about holidays. The thought of it is panicking me right now.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 10/03/2021 12:49

I think you’ll find it less scary once everyone else is doing it too. Humans are like sheep in that respect. It’s hard to imagine yourself doing things that nobody is doing but once everyone else is it will feel more natural. Right now it’s entirely natural to feel a little bit panicky at the thought of doing things that we have been told for months are dangerous.

whatswithtodaytoday · 10/03/2021 14:10

Lurker here, love this thread.

We had my MIL join our bubble in February after she was fully vaccinated, and at first I found it very weird and scary to have someone else in the house. It quickly became normal though, and now I barely think about it. I reckon everything will be like that - the first time you go in a shop/restaurant/public toilet it'll feel really scary and risky, and then the next time less so, and then less again, until we get back to normal.

I do wonder how long it'll take me to stop reacting like a scared rabbit to the sound of a cough though!

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2021 14:46

Saying hi. My first day alone at home for what feels like so very long. So nice! Totally quiet.

Not much to say but good to see the good news still rolling in.

Welikebeingcosy · 10/03/2021 16:48

Checking in. Having a wobbly week as I think my brain isn't coping very well with the lack of variety and social interaction but hoping I can get through the next two months a bit better than this last week...

FaithfullyYours · 10/03/2021 18:08

Hello everyone!

Is there any study that points towards the evidence of reduction in transmission with the AZ vaccine? Could anyone kindly point me to it pls?
Thank you Smile

thatgingergirl · 10/03/2021 18:32

Still following! Had coffee with adult DD on Monday - I have seen her a couple of times for a short walk over the last few months, but it was lovely to sit and relax together by a nice stretch of water near home. Weather was kind!

tobee · 10/03/2021 19:26

Stephen Fry had his vaccine. In Westminster Abbey. I'm a little bit jealous of the location! Grin

tobee · 10/03/2021 19:29

This is the latest I can find @FaithfullyYours; after a quick google.

Mostly seems to maybe still.

Ha me too
MadisonAvenue · 10/03/2021 20:41

We’re near to a very beautiful cathedral which was being used as a vaccine centre in the early days but when our turn came in early February it wasn’t showing on the list, I’d definitely have booked there if it was.

tootyfruitypickle · 10/03/2021 21:56

I had a lovely day all alone as well today. DD hated first day back though. Really sad as she was so happy last term. Hope things can speedily get back to normal in schools as it did sound a bit miserable. Hopefully the stats will continue to improve . All the lessons are online so I may let her have a bit of time at home (again!) if it carries on being hard for her .
