Hope no-one minds me starting this. Apologies if another has started too. Please can someone add the pretty pictures.

NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Please note, this is a thread to share good news and for wobblers to be reassured. Doomploppers will be met with scorn and derision!

Checking in.

MarshaBradyo · 22/02/2021 09:59

Brilliant thanks

This is so good

The work led by Public Health Scotland found by the fourth week after the first dose hospitalisations were reduced by 85% and 94% for the Pfizer and AstraZeneca jabs respectively.

It is the first sign of the real world impact of the Covid vaccination programme in the UK.

Plus after all the AZ doom we had to endure doubly good to see

Thank you OrangeBananaFish! Wonderful title.

Place marking. For sanity. Grin

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/02/2021 10:01

Anyway as I was about to say- in theory I knew the AZ data was strong but the drip drip drip of all the ‘AZ is inferior!’ stuff must have got to me!

JemimaPyjamas · 22/02/2021 10:04

Checking into the only sane place on the site!

It was relentless from all sides!

Breaking news now. So so pleased.

Wonder if other countries will get a move on with it now

MrsFrisbyMouse · 22/02/2021 10:06

The astra zenca has the huge potential to be the vaccine that gets us over this pandemic worldwide. (Cheap and easier to store) So this is such good news. Smile

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

Thank you OrangeBananaFish! Wonderful title.
Thank you. I know there was a couple of suggestions or ideas were given in the last thread, but I couldn't find them. So apologies if there are better ideas.

Anyway going back to the rest of the board. Definitely better to try to avoid as much as possible. Lockdown again by May, low vaccinations numbers Hmm among other things.

One thing I did notice last night was that on these threads we're all yey 1/3 of adults are vaccinated etc, but on another someone said 2/3 rds are yet to be vaccinated. Definitely a glass half full/empty thing there.

We managed to get to France in August 2020 and were hoping we could do the same again this year, but it is looking increasingly unlikely. There is no way we could afford or have the capability (with work etc) to quarantine in a hotel for 2 weeks so that looks like a no go this year, but that's fine. We can make up for it in other ways. Nothing is booked as yet.

Would have like the overnight stays to be confirmed to be sooner too, but will again make do. Just wondering if Butlins will be on in late June or if that will be postponed again (may have to go August when we should have gone to France instead)

Thanks for new thread OrangeBananaFish. Still following for the sense on here.

That is good news MarshaBradyo. Have been mulling after a chat with a friend yesterday - having told her I'd had the AZ, her next message was full of (non complimentary) percentages!

Hope the plans to move us on from all this have some good bits for most people, and we can all still keep on keeping on.

ILookAtTheFloor · 22/02/2021 10:08

I have a theory (I'm no scientist haha) that the data looked less favourable for AZ as it had PCR tested those in the trial, whereas Pfizer only gauged symptoms (I imagine like any other vaccine developed in all honesty) so as AZ were more open about potential for asymptomatic infections it's been reflected in the data. That's just my view.

Anyway so glad to see the new thread 😁

louisejxxx · 22/02/2021 10:18

So sorry for taking up the last post on the old thread Blush

Excellent news from Scotland - I hope the EU countries enjoy their taste of humble pie, they’ve made themselves look like idiots. (And no - I didn’t vote for Brexit! 😅)

I’d settle for the worst case scenariors on here eating humble pie 😬but they’ll move on to the next thing probably!

Checking in here.

I don't think I can read many more "Lockdown by May" posts!

BunsyGirl · 22/02/2021 10:32

Was lovely to hear DS1’s teacher say (on Teams this morning) that it looked like Boris was going to be giving us some good news today and her class would all be back to school in two weeks.

Motorina · 22/02/2021 10:39

Here's the link to the BBC good news story on Scotland figures:

I need this thread so much so thank you for it. I feel it’s so ‘one step forward, two steps back’ with the general media, and it’s taking a massive toll on my mental health despite the fact I’m trying to remain positive and optimistic! It’s just so draining! Let’s get the kids back to school, enjoy the (hopefully) warmer weather and look forward to meeting family and friends again very soon!!

FourTeaFallOut · 22/02/2021 10:49

Woohoo, shiny new thread, thanks orangebananafish.

Crumpetycrump · 22/02/2021 10:49

Fabulous news about the vaccines today and so reassuring to hear that AZ as good as, if not better, than Pfizer!
