@52andblue

Plus there will be a certain proportion of folk who then think: #fuck it, I will reduce my obedience to the rules in that case. Folk will go on day trips or even Premier inn style mini breaks for Easter etc, travel all over the UK (which I presume is not allowed by then?)
Me 100%. I'm not sitting at home while my kids attend daily mass gatherings.
VinylDetective · 22/02/2021 11:27

I feel far safer in the salon that I do at work or in most shops...

Same. There’s fuck all social distancing in the shops any more.

Frazzled2207 · 22/02/2021 11:27

@Xenia

Nothing leaked about weddings. Every potential bride in the country has woken up today with knots in their stomach according to my daughter (wedding in March only if the ban is lifted) and everything then has to be booked and planned tonight once numbers are clear - currently planning for 13 guests as previously allowed before the 19 Dec London complete wedding ban.
This is shitty I know. I don’t know any brides but my parents work in the wedding industry which is huge and on its knees.

Same here. 80/100 end of June. I saw on the leak that they believe holidays may be possible by July, and an end of indoor rule of 6 by early June, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed

I really hope your daughter's wedding goes ahead Flowers us Covid brides have been forgotten

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/02/2021 11:33

Obv all teachers should have their first dose of vaccine if schools back by 8th

That’s 2w to be booked in

A few have said this - no mention of weddings

Selfishly I want weddings so I can get married

Cancelled last March. Rebooked 15mth later for this May

Not expecting to be in the same position all these months later

Xenia · 22/02/2021 11:35

She was going to go for Oct 2021 with 60 guests BUT the hotels all said if you cancel in 2021 you can move it a year on. She is not going to wait and have it put off and put off so we just made it the 13 guests booked for March and the number allowed (13 guests)in November but then there came the December total ban. 13 is pretty mean as so many people are left out but better than nothing. If they allow 4 guests only she will also go for that in March - which is parents only. She is following all the bridals things on line and the terrible damage done to people with wedding businesses. As I said to her this morning even if it can only be 13 guests we can have a separate after wedding party with more people when that is next allowed but at least they will be married. She has the marriage licence already which lasts a year so if March has to be postponed to April then we will just move the 13 guests to that date and the church.

it seems particularly unfair to have a total ban when you can have a funeral with 30 and you can have a weekly church service which is distanced with even more than 13 present.

But you can’t have a wake and people tend not to get pissed at a church service! It’s the loss of inhibition with drink that’s the problem with weddings. And, of course, that you can’t delay a funeral indefinitely.

sanam2019 · 22/02/2021 11:49

so pubs before swimming again? great. such an awful government.

@52andblue

I won't be. I'll be frantically trying to catch up on all the work I haven't been able to do whilst the DC have been off.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/02/2021 11:59

Agree @Xenia

If we can we will even if 15

And if no booze so be it

We just went to get married. Not have a wedding day iyswim

bmachine · 22/02/2021 12:11

No news in weddings. If they are allowing cinemas to go back am I allowed a may wedding?

userxx · 22/02/2021 12:18

Anything about foreign travel ?

Beebityboo · 22/02/2021 12:23

Argh I don't know how to feel. I'm privileged and borderline hysterically grateful to have had the vaccine last week so I will now be (almost certainly) be protected from severe covid when my kids go back, but it isn't particularly safe for them either! But with the only other option being to home school them I have no choice really, I am already home educating my eldest and the youngest two are different personalities who just couldn't cope with it. It is insane to send them all back at once, but that is what they are doing and we either send them or home school. Just hope the vaccines and lockdown mean it will be less of a disaster than it was last September.

TwirpingBird · 22/02/2021 12:28

@userxx

Not that I have seen.

All of us who have family abroad just have to crack on with no light at the end of the tunnel. But, boris may organise with greece so he can go to Daddys villa in the summer. Good for him!

Laiste · 22/02/2021 12:29

Cases aren't the issue.
Hospitalizations are.
We didnt go into lockdown to bring down cases.
We went into lockdown to stop the nhs being overwhelmed.
We now need to adjust to the idea that there will always be cases and it will always go up and down.

this

But it seems to be going over everyone's heads.

It will spread when we come out of lockdown.
People will catch it.
But because of the vaccinations less will need to go to hospital.
THAT is what lockdown is/was about - waiting till we had the vaccination.
Keeping the hospitals working.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 22/02/2021 12:32

Infection rates are plummeting massively.

Not in Scotland they're not. They did plummet at first but then they levelled off. They've been stable for a couple of weeks now at quite a high level (over 700 per day, similar to pre-Christmas levels). No, I have no idea why. Hospitalizations and deaths still going down though.

Charts here

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 22/02/2021 12:41

Not necessarily. Depends how fast it spreads and how many have been vaccinated. There are 7 million "vulnerable" (though not "extremely vulnerable") people waiting to be vaccinated. It takes a few weeks to get people vaccinated and immune.

VinylDetective · 22/02/2021 12:44

Those vulnerable people are being vaccinated right now.

The things we should be watching are the numbers of hospital admissions and deaths. As long as those decrease we’re good. It’s completely unrealistic to expect infections to go down to zero.

TrustTheGeneGenie · 22/02/2021 12:46

@MummaPI

Everyone else, phased return to schools. Us, all in! We've been there, done that and it doesn't work. Why can't they see it has to be softly, softly to ensure we don't end up in another lockdown.
so do you not think vaccines will have any impact at all then?
Givemethechocolate · 22/02/2021 12:55

Is there a link to this article, cant find it?

frakas · 22/02/2021 12:58

What about weddings?
Mine is late June, postponed from last June. I have 100 guests in a big church.
Would like to know where I stand

Not being rude but it should already be obvious to you that won't be possible.

KettleWentBang · 22/02/2021 13:00

What about theme parks and such like.?

Motherdare · 22/02/2021 13:03

The bit about being allowed to meet one person outdoors... I thought you could already do that?

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 22/02/2021 13:03

@downriver Er, can you provide ANY reliable, peer-reviewed data to prove there is any truth to this (in your view, presumably, Xmas shopping rush had nothing to do with it, as well as the seasonality that goes with these diseases.....)?

Frazzled2207 · 22/02/2021 13:05

@Motherdare

The bit about being allowed to meet one person outdoors... I thought you could already do that?
Yes but currently it’s only for “exercise”. Now you can legally sit on a bench for a coffee and have a picnic with that person.
