How the hell do you operate an 'outdoor' restaurant in April in this country what happens when it tips it

Reminds me of the Rhod Gilbert piece about alfresco dining in Cardiff. Soup bowl filling up faster than you can drink it.

poppycat10 · 22/02/2021 10:39

Seriously? Have you not looked at the ONS data where it shows very very clearly that schools were the main vectors for pushing up transmission rates. The government tried to play this down at the time but the statistics show this to be true

No, some schools in some areas had high infection rates. Other schools and sixth form colleges had virtually no cases. It is not true that schools increased infection rates across the board, although in some areas they did, eg in Michael Gove's own constituency area where I know a few people who caught it from their school age kids in December. But where I live there were very few cases and as I've banged on about on here, my son's 6th form college had 3 cases during the entire term and that was without a rota.

Multicover · 22/02/2021 10:39

@footballfootball

Based on what I've read in the news so far this morning, lockdown 4 won't be far off :-(
What’s that then? That hospital admissions in the previously highest groups have plummeted? Or something else?
Fortyfifty · 22/02/2021 10:40

@poppycat10

According to the Times, colleges won't be opening until after Easter because they were the main driver of infection last time. That is so untrue I don't know where to start - 16-18 year olds were the age group with the smallest number of infections in December and my son's 6th form college had three known cases during the entire term (not sure how many students but would guess around 2000).

I just give up.

Goodness. That would be sorry sighted of them. My DDs 6th form college had fewer than 10 known cases. They wore masks inside classes and corridors since September. For the month of September they operated on a half in half at home trevithick the lesson virtually, so ate used to doing the own risk assessment and planning. Plus, the way their timetable is arranged, with long classes but fewer of them, big chunks of time for study periods, means the students aren't mixing outside of classes. They're either in class or they are home.

My DH's 11-18 cramped school, with limited places for the 6th formers to go during their many short study periods, and lunch - time, and no mask wearing in classes - makes it much more risky than my DD's college.

I realise that there will probably be a rise in infections as we open up, but if those infections don't lead to increased serious disease, isn't it worth it?“

If this were the end of April, I would agree with you. Atm though, over 60% of the, still high, hospital Cases are under 65, a large proportion without underlying conditions. Millions of that age group are yet to receive their first dose and until they do and it kicks in, the potential for a big rise in hospital admissions is still there.

I love the word leaked as if they haven't been told by gov to print, lol.

deathbyprocrastination · 22/02/2021 10:44

Anyone know what the source was for foreign travel from August?

Teardrop2021 · 22/02/2021 10:47

This is the problem instead of announcing it probably we have misleading information. Swimming is with leisure under gym. Im a swimming teacher, last announcement it was under gyms with leisure industry. Just spoke to dh and things are being announced in Parliament at 12.

Rosehip10 · 22/02/2021 10:49

@Teardrop2021 Nope, BoJo makes his statement at 15.30

Teardrop2021 · 22/02/2021 10:52

Oh my mistake. Il turn in then. Hopefully get a full picture of what's happening.

DenisetheMenace · 22/02/2021 10:54

Teardrop2021

Yep, more hours of speculation and waffle to look forward to on radio and tv today.
Really hate this announcement by leak policy they’ve been following for months now.

Teardrop2021 · 22/02/2021 10:55

Hopefully we will get some answers soon fingers crossed

Infection rates are plummeting massively.
Vaccination numbers are growing with now working through group 6 for first vaccine and soon group 1 and 2 that haven't had a second yet will have theirs done.

It is going well and can only get better and better. Some areas of the country have barely any cases at all.

Schools should open (IMO) in all but the highest infection areas. At risk teachers in groups 1-4 should have had their vaccine by now - if not why didn't they go online and book it as instructed to do. Even now group 6 is being vaccinated and people are not booking online for the hubs as they should (is it easier to just sit around wait and moan?)

Go get your vaccine if in groups 1-6 book it now. Be positive, look forward.

shavenraven · 22/02/2021 11:02

@SnarkyBag

God no hairdressers until may?! My teen sons will probably refuse to go to school looking like they do right now Grin

If you bought a set of electric clippers you/they could do a number eight all over, it's still pretty long. If not short enough try number seven

DP does his own and has done for 10+ years, you'd never know

teachermummy1 · 22/02/2021 11:08

A scarily large amount of people in our society can be swayed very easily...

CheltenhamLady · 22/02/2021 11:09

Was there anything leaked about weddings?

teachermummy1 · 22/02/2021 11:09

Oops I meant to quote @FossilisedFanny Grin

OnlyTeaForMe · 22/02/2021 11:14

How the hell do you operate an 'outdoor' restaurant in April in this country what happens when it tips it- not really workable so most restaurants will wait until they can open

Around here it seems that every restaurant and pub has built open-sided, but covered areas on the sides/ in the garden. As soon as we are allowed I have no doubt they will be open and fully booked.

But yes, the city centre restaurants with no outdoor space will not be able to do this, I agree.

B33Fr33 · 22/02/2021 11:15

The "plan" or just the organ grinder forcing the hand of the monkeys.

ChickenyChick · 22/02/2021 11:16

so sad no outdoor sport until April :(

52andblue · 22/02/2021 11:17

Oh, FFS!
We just bung ALL kids back on 8th March???
Stupid stupid stupid... (Govt)

TheMoth · 22/02/2021 11:17

No indoor sport at all! My kids do martial arts and gymnastics. And swimming! Nothing, unless you play bloody football.

52andblue · 22/02/2021 11:20

Plus there will be a certain proportion of folk who then think: #fuck it, I will reduce my obedience to the rules in that case. Folk will go on day trips or even Premier inn style mini breaks for Easter etc, travel all over the UK (which I presume is not allowed by then?)

Frazzled2207 · 22/02/2021 11:24

@SuperbGorgonzola

Hair and beauty need to be open. They've been so badly affected through all of this.
Everyone is ppe’d to to the Max and it’s one on one rather than big groups. It MUST be safer than schools.
Xenia · 22/02/2021 11:24

Nothing leaked about weddings. Every potential bride in the country has woken up today with knots in their stomach according to my daughter (wedding in March only if the ban is lifted) and everything then has to be booked and planned tonight once numbers are clear - currently planning for 13 guests as previously allowed before the 19 Dec London complete wedding ban.
