Israel has done it: Freedom Badges for the vaccinated

Green badges, let you go to restaurants, synagogues, swimming pools, shopping malls, etc.

I can't tell if the unvaxxed would be allowed to go to supermarket or send their kids to school.

... and what about residents of Palestinian territories? Don't they provide a lot of manual labour in Israel but haven't had any jabs, will they be allowed to go back to work in Israel?

There also going to be purple zones (open to all) including shopping malls (with a cap on maximum numbers, rather like situation before green badge)

I dint kniw what they're doing about schools

It's their call on the balance between public health and individual freedom

pinkhappy · 20/02/2021 22:09

@ragged

That’s a tiresome knee jerk reaction to any news from Israel. You are presumably aware that Palestinians in East Jerusalem are already vaccinated by Israel and that Hamas has the destruction of the state of Israel in its constitution? Neither Hamas nor the Palestinian authorities has asked Israel to vaccinate their populations. Also

“Palestinian Ministry of Health: We reached an agreement with the Israeli Ministry of Health to vaccinate 100,000 Palestinian workers who work in the 48 lands.”

CovidPostingName · 20/02/2021 22:17

I'm amazed that any Jew could bring themselves to wear a badge on their clothing...

Susie477 · 20/02/2021 22:18

Well done Israel.🇮🇱 👏👏👏

They are leading the world out of the pandemic, and we should be learning from them, not making politically motivated criticisms of them.

Hairwizard · 20/02/2021 22:52

Thats a slippery slope...

bluetongue · 20/02/2021 22:58

What’s to stop you borrowing a badge from a vaccinated friend or buying a copy on the black market?

Jackie2022 · 20/02/2021 23:01

I hope the UK doesn’t introduce this until everyone’s been vaccinated. As a healthy young adult I am the lowest priority, so it would be unfair to exclude people like me from society as we’re not allowed a vaccine just yet - it’s out of our control.

covetingthepreciousthings · 20/02/2021 23:09

@Hairwizard

Thats a slippery slope...
This.
covetingthepreciousthings · 20/02/2021 23:10

What about children and teenagers though? They won't be vaccinated.

badpuma · 20/02/2021 23:10

Most facilities will need to be staffed by people in the lowest priority groups - shop workers, restaurant workers etc will not all be vaccinated for a while.

Will they be expected to work to serve the privileged vaccinated, or will they be forced to give up their jobs (could they still get furlough if their workplaces are allowed to open?) because they're not allowed to do their jobs until they've been vaccinated?

MartiniDry · 20/02/2021 23:18

The UK doesn't want to implement this control freakery, Jackie. There will be hell to pay if this country tries it.

2020canfuckitself · 20/02/2021 23:25

I don't like this at all.

everythingisstillginandroses · 20/02/2021 23:31

I'm pro-lockdown due to how badly our useless govt has handled this situation, and I'm pro-vaccine but would I fuck wear a badge.

The U.K. will follow....

XenoBitch · 20/02/2021 23:39

Ugh. My mum had her vaccine today and the person doing it insisted on putting the "I had my vaccine" sticker on display on my mum's coat.

RhubarbTea · 20/02/2021 23:41

@Hairwizard

Thats a slippery slope...
Also this.

What the fuck. And of all the places to do that. Wow.
Let them try here, all hell will break loose.

typicalvalues · 20/02/2021 23:43

It would be fair enough if the vaccine was 100% effective. It's not. A bit stupid of them.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/02/2021 00:05

@typicalvalues

Why? Herd immunity happens with much less than 100% efficacy depending on the R0 and the proportion of the population vaccinated.
herecomesthsun · 21/02/2021 00:09

Well done to Israel for rolling out their vaccination programme.

I guess we can watch how they manage the Freedom Badge part of it, with great interest.

Good luck, Israel, I hope you find the right balance.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/02/2021 00:13

Wonder how much they'll cost on the black market.

dividedwefall · 21/02/2021 00:26

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

Wonder how much they'll cost on the black market.
As honest as I am, I would have no qualms about a fake badge under these circumstances. Terrible thing to roll to roll out.
everythingisstillginandroses · 21/02/2021 00:31

When the last Labour govt was planning legislation for ID cards, criminals started making forgeries based on what they expected the cards to look like. I saw these online, they resembled the card part of a driving licence. I'm a Labour Party member these days (not back then), but I would have gone to the wall over refusing an ID card and I will not wear a fucking badge.

Totallydefeated · 21/02/2021 00:38

Also surprised people in Israel are standing for this.

It won’t fly here. We’ve never accepted anything like and ID card, and won’t be doing so now. If they try, it’ll end up being Boris’s Poll Tax.
