The rate of decline in people in hospital has increased i.redd.it/o6q85b4ftni61.jpg

Australia has started vaccinating its population (all vaccinations make the world a little safer)

I saw a good coronavirus joke

The spread of the Coronavirus is based on two factors

  1. How dense the population is
  1. How dense the population is

So do we think over 40s will start being vaccinated in April ....?

FuzzyPuffling · 21/02/2021 07:41

That's an excellent joke. Just what I needed.
I feel crap this morning with side effects ( I'll be staying in bed) but psychologically I feel great. My bonkers immune system has indeed gone bonkers ( as expected) but I don't care. Short term pain, long term gain.

NeedingCoffee · 21/02/2021 07:52

@chri55ie

Boris just announced all overs 50s to be vaccinated (first dose) by 15th April and all adults by end of July!
Brilliant news; I’d been a bit wobbly about the vaccine dose numbers coming down a bit recently so really pleased they’re not taking their foot off the gas, so to speak

Israel says Pfizer vaccine has efficacy of 98.9% of hospitalisation and death:-

tobee · 21/02/2021 07:57

Sorry meant to say after second dose. So much for those on other threads saying that "these vaccines don't work". I daresay someone will be on saying that that's all wrong and actually they don't work. Sorry.

A day in bed sounds good, FuzzyPuffling. Hope you feel better tomorrow. I was quite shivery late evening, took a couple of paracetamol and went to be early, with extra layers of nightclothes (and socks). Woke up around midnight really hot, got rid of the layers and went back to sleep. Dull head this morning, but have had a pint of water, so should sort out. We have a ready meal moussaka for lunch Grin.

@tootyfruitypickle

They're still deciding the priority post 1-9 I believe. Anything I've read suggests the focus remains on age, although there is some pressure for a shift to job. But it looks likely over 40s will be April.

That article about Israel is such a positive story about where we might be heading

louisejxxx · 21/02/2021 09:29

A day in bed for me too @FuzzyPuffling as 2nd test has come back positive - to be honest though I just feel like I’ve got a bad cold with extra achy/tiredness so it could definitely be worse.

FuzzyPuffling · 21/02/2021 09:32

Sorry to hear you've tested positive louisejxxx. Hope it stays mild and goes away soon.

TheABC · 21/02/2021 09:36

@chri55ie

That April deadline will be one to celebrate, when reached. The over-50s are our largest age cohort and the NHS will be vaccinating them alongside the second set of doses for Groups 1-6.

Its only 7 weeks away. Grin

tootyfruitypickle · 21/02/2021 09:38

Yes re next phase, it looks like they've decided to focus on serious disease risk, rather than amount of infection, so that must point to over 40s next.

alreadytaken · 21/02/2021 09:59

There are some occupations I really want to see vaccinated..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................anyone who works in meat packing factories or prisons, no doubt they cause outbreaks.

digitaldays · 21/02/2021 10:18

How positive is this?

Israel eases restrictions following vaccine success www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-56143126

starfish88 · 21/02/2021 10:27

It's amazing news about Israel although a part of me worries at the idea of vaccine passports. I'm vaccinated, I support vaccination but I also support bodily autonomy and I have a hard time reconciling the two.

I hope our roadmap out is as positive tomorrow. I've written my own predictions for it, partly to see how good I am at prediction and part 'manifesting' the changes I want to see. I'm trying to be positive.

Frazzled2207 · 21/02/2021 10:27

I think the mid April target is with a broad opening in may on the mind. Bring it on!
But am hopefully for outdoor sport and socialising to be allowed much sooner.
I’m personally not fussed about shops but obviously fussed about their jobs. If you keep strict limits on who’s in the shops I don’t think it’s unsafe though- supermarkets have been open throughout and has anyone heard of an outbreak among customers? Staff I could believe

Also really hope hairdressers etc are able to open by Easter. I can’t believe they are that risky as services are 1 to 1 and they are PPEd within an inch of their lives

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/02/2021 10:28

Omg - that is seriously good news, the fact that they are opening indoor places like shops and museums despite case numbers still being high and far from everybody jabbed yet.
If Israel does this and it doesn’t result in disaster it will be evidence for us to move a little bit faster.
Hurrah for Israel blazing the trail.

FuzzyPuffling · 21/02/2021 10:28

My temperature has gone back to normal. Hurrah!

Frazzled2207 · 21/02/2021 10:29

@tootyfruitypickle

So do we think over 40s will start being vaccinated in April ....?
Late April/may I reckon. I’m 42 and amazingly it seems within reach now whereas previously I assumed it would be august -ish
alreadytaken · 21/02/2021 10:46

Glad to hear you are improving Fuzzy. Israel are at about half the population vaccinated but they are using Pfizer and fully vaccinating.

Outdoor sports like tennis and golf really should be allowed to resume - anyone heard of outbreaks from either of those? Anyone heard of a garden centre or garden attraction outbreak or a National Trust garden outbreak or English heritage outbreak? These are all things that keep people fit, mentally healthy and spread them out a bit. And precious little evidence for gym outbreaks, other than at classes. Two hairdressers who wore masks didnt infect a single one of their patients when they got covid.

I'd like the government to base reopening on science, not being control freaks.

PuzzledObserver · 21/02/2021 10:49

And second dose for all by end of July. Amazing! Looking good for my nephew’s wedding in August, postponed from last year.

OrangeBananaFish · 21/02/2021 11:05

I don't know if its the weather, but I am in a seriously better mood today. I don't feel all gloomy like I have been feeling recently. I really hope for more outdoor activities to be allowed soon. I also hope its not too long before we find out what to expect for my YR11 DS and his non GCSEs.

It feels like spring today so I'm going out in a bit for a nice steady run to celebrate. After all the snow the other week, last week has been dull and gloomy (it rained all day yesterday), but today is bright and sunny. It feels like a sign that things have turned for the better.

Sorry about your test result @louisejxxx and yey to feeling a bit better @FuzzyPuffling after your jab.

Fgs1 · 21/02/2021 11:11

@alreadytaken

There are some occupations I really want to see vaccinated..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................anyone who works in meat packing factories or prisons, no doubt they cause outbreaks.
But once you start to handpick by job, you get "but what about police/teachers/bus drivers/dog walkers" etc. Doing it by age will cover all those and if everyone in adult population gets first dose by July they will all be included anyway, roll on summer!! I cant wait to get dressed up and go out for cocktails!!
TJ17 · 21/02/2021 11:16

I completely agree @Fgs1

The logistics of trying to sort by profession and prioritisation of all of that is just going to slow things down and cause a lot of uproar in my opinion.

Just keep smashing them out by age group once we've done the vulnerable and it'll be done much quicker.
