Welcome to the new thread! I will copy over links from the previous thread soon.

Please note, this is a thread to share good news and for wobblers to be reassured. Doomploppers will be met with scorn and derision!

Plans ahead for schools to administer the first lateral flow test at school for secondary students and for parents to do it at home thereafter.

Is it safe to come out now? Nothing positive to add, but I do love this thread. Can’t wait to make sand castles on the beach. Last summer we found a hidden beach near us. Very difficult to find and a long walk, but that meant virtually no one there. Plan to go back when the weather is warmer.

REACT study shows levels last seen in late September! - R4 news

MarshaBradyo · 18/02/2021 08:40

And a link re late Sept levels

FourTeaFallOut · 18/02/2021 08:47

Ooh, that is good news. The react study ended on the 13th February. So even more time (and millions upon millions more people developing good levels of immunity) to make even more progress over the coming weeks.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/02/2021 08:50

Secret beaches sound amazing, I am green with envy Dobby. I can't wait for the good weather now. Just having weather out of the negatives these last few days feels so hopeful.

Shehz21 · 18/02/2021 09:03

I have not been to any beach in the UK yet but a hidden beach sounds amazing.
Is anyone else looking forward to the weekend? 16° in East London.

Sorry about the long link...it's a (UK) drug that seems to be pf particular help to people with diabetes.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/02/2021 09:16

I'm in the north east, we're not there yet. It's 13c and rainy on the weekend. Beats the crap out of snow though.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/02/2021 09:22

That's so promising FuzzyPuffling.

Who should I follow on Twitter/website to get easily understandable data on death rates and hospital admissions (which is what I'm interested in, despite the rumours that it's now new cases we should focus on)? I basically want someone trustworthy to interpret the data for me as a semi-intelligent layperson.

And also....

Richard @rp131 is a good source of statistical information and analysis on cases and deaths. I don't know if he looks at hospitalisation rates though.

Ganesh Ranganathan

Autumn101 · 18/02/2021 10:02

That obese pancake story has made me laugh for too much 😂

My local bakery does amazing iced buns and eclairs, may have to go and get some for an afternoon treat.......

After a bit of a wobble at beginning of the week I’m feeling really positive and so grateful for all the amazing stories and research some of you post about - you are all appreciated 👍

HalfDutchGirl · 18/02/2021 10:08

@Inastatus you must be near me, we tend to head to the smaller beaches to the east of Bournemouth. Can’t wait til we can go there again and sit on a bench without fear of being moaned at!!

I’m thinking that now we should be most interested in hospital admission numbers as, even with the vaccine, people will still get Covid but much milder so maybe the infection numbers will stay on the high side.

Daffodils are poking through in my my garden and birds are singing, spring is just around the corner and freedom for us all beckons!

Lovestonap · 18/02/2021 10:09

Thanks all. That Ganesh chappy is exactly what I'm looking for.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/02/2021 10:24

Coronavirus good news (@Coronavirusgoo1) Tweeted:
"Even before the second dose, one dose of the Pfizer vaccine was highly efficacious, with a vaccine efficacy of 92.6%, a finding similar to the first-dose efficacy of 92.1% reported for the Moderna Vaccine"

Pomegranatespompom · 18/02/2021 13:11

Love that efficacy news @FourTeaFallOut
Where’s the obese pancakes ?!

DH is jabbed! Out of the house and back again in an hour and a quarter. I wore heels and my best coat to mark the occasion (although I didn't get out of the car). Think I'll run to lippy and mascara for mine!

Inastatus · 18/02/2021 13:37

@HalfDutchGirl - ‘waves’ it’s glorious here today isn’t it. We are just heading to the beach for a dog walk Smile

Pomegranatespompom · 18/02/2021 13:38

Love that @Level75
And yay re vaccination news @thatgingergirl

I’m off today - so I’ve spent time going a bouncy blow dry. I have to idea why 😐

Level75 · 18/02/2021 13:45

I love the enthusiastic exclamation mark in the headline story. Not even trying to be neutral.
