Welcome to the new thread! I will copy over links from the previous thread soon.

Please note, this is a thread to share good news and for wobblers to be reassured. Doomploppers will be met with scorn and derision!

ps, I really dislike iced buns. I'll take an eclair instead, thanks

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2021 16:56

Selfishly, I'd quite like people to stay off beaches for a while. It was so crowded last year we had to stay away from our local beaches for many months, and I am desperate to go bodyboarding again as soon as I can.

But I acknowledge that that is an entirely personal view!

1990s · 17/02/2021 17:01

But now you’ll be vaccinated Fuzzy so the risk will be a lot lower.

Not sure it’s realistic to ever have empty beaches in Cornwall sadly Smile maybe head to Northumberland for real space!

I'm just glad I don't live in St Ives or Padstow!
FourTeaFallOut · 17/02/2021 17:16

Oh, the beaches in Northumberland are gorgeous. I'm adding that to my ever growing to-do list for summer, we'll take the caravan.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 17/02/2021 17:17

Here's my good news!

Just had my vaccine. OH got his at lunch time (both group 6)

It was at GP surgery but we got Pfizer. Really surprised about that. Just goes to show that covid vaccines are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get!

Just went over to the vaccination thread. The lovely Mum and lovely butterly said we have now given the first dose to 30% of all UK adults ❤

We are also on nearly 16 million. When we get to 17.7 million. We will have 1 in 3 adults vaccinated❤

[quote Level75]Not good news as such but it made me laugh...

@Level75 trawling through tension then seen this and omg actually laughing out loud 🤣🤣 I keep thinking 6.2cm and erupting into giggles again. I'm the only adult in the house 😂

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 17/02/2021 18:01

Nearly forgot to say there are 5000 less patients in hospital with covid this week. Compared with last week Smile

@fuzzypuffling, I understand what you mean. I’m lucky to live very near the beautiful beaches of Bournemouth which were packed last year. I’d love to keep them to ourselves but as lots of people won’t be able to or won’t want to travel abroad this summer it is unrealistic/selfish to hope for. I just hope they don’t trash them with litter like they did last summer 😡

That Liam Thorp Twitter thread is so funny - the morbidly obese pancake! 😂😂

Wow, it had dropped a lot the last 2 weeks too so that must have taken a lot of pressure off. I hopes so anyway.

They are! Adding to mine too Smile
alreadytaken · 17/02/2021 18:41

I laughed at the pancake too.

Not the greatest of names for a hedgehog but in honour of the picnic maybe Bun.

Pomegranatespompom · 17/02/2021 19:40

Are there any iced buns left because I missed lunch and I’m hungry .. although I’m on a train and can’t take my mask off anyway.
Although perhaps missing 1 lunch could lead to 1 stone weight loss ??

Will catch up on this positive thread now !

sproutsandparsnips · 17/02/2021 21:46

I don't want to make anyone jealous but I am lucky enough to live within 5 miles of a very large beach that, whilst very busy in the car parks at seasons heights, is never crowded. This is mainly because it's not a tourist spot (though it is quite close by to many) and is accessed via a large council estate. It also has a steelworks to the left, but a fab view to the right! It was the first place I took the children when we were allowed to travel 5 miles for exercise etc. We were never within 5 metres of anyone else, and it warmed my heart to see what a lovely time they had. They were building sandcastles and my eldest was 13!
Sorry just had to get that off my chest.......

Let me know if the missing one lunch did in fact result in one stone weight loss, willing to try Smile

45% drop in deaths among over 85s in Scotland

Nicola Sturgeon says this "strongly suggests" the vaccine is having the impact we had hoped.

The first minister adds that deaths have fallen for three consecutive weeks, with a drop of 62% in care homes.

carlycornwall · 17/02/2021 22:14

There are plenty of uncrowded beaches in Cornwall if you stay off the beaten track. We did a lot of early morning swims and breakfasts on the beach last summer. Fingers crossed we get the weather to allow it again this year!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 18/02/2021 03:19

The REACT study found levels of infection are being halved every 14.6 days. If the rate continues, the UK can expect to reach 1,000 cases a day by the second week of April.

Public Health England has a "high degree of confidence thatthe vaccineswill work against variants", including the Bristol variant of concern.

starfish88 · 18/02/2021 04:16

And there was me thinking they were rising Grin

That would be amazing to get it that low by April, good weather would help counter the reopening so may mean the rate continues to fall quickly despite reopening some stuff. Fingers crossed for a sunny spring!

Although I don't get how the temperature thing works completely. Here the cases fell in the summer but rise in the winter as expected but our winters are like a UK summer. Flu season fall in with Northern hemisphere norms too though. Behaviour could be a driver too I suppose.
