@louisejxxx If you have already been taking vitamin D supplements but only a small dose now is a good time to double up. There is some limited evidence it helps with covid (more came out this week). Vitamin D levels drop when infected. If you dont have supplements eat as much oily fish, eggs and mushrooms as you can stomach and check if breakfast cereal is fortified with it.

There are other vaccines besides AZ and Pfizer, new people may get one of those.
Apparently you need to make sure the mushrooms have been exposed to ultraviolet light for them to be high in Vitamin D.

Hope you're both okay @louisejxxx Flowers

Well as it is I may not be having my covid jab. I spoke to the doctor about my migraines and he was also puzzled about why I'd I'd asked early. He said he would leave it if I wanted but I said I'm happy for him to investigate it if there is a priority patient who should be having it instead.

It's my birthday today, managed to get my carer status amended at gp yesterday and this afternoon got my text to book my vaccine. Best birthday present ever!!!

And a little bit spooky as my running buddy and I were talking to a cancer survivor at the time who was asking if we could help her start running. Text arrived literally seconds after I had said I was due to have vaccine in next couple weeks and that once 3 weeks had passed after me having it I would be knocking at her door.

Shehz21 · 16/02/2021 15:20

Happy Birthday Whatever Cake
And brilliant news about your vaccine!

Great news about the variants!

Today’s numbers are a bit meh apart from hospitalisations which are below 1500, I think for the first time.

ACovidofWitches · 16/02/2021 17:13

I don't know, it's still a good drop in deaths. We're going in the right direction.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/02/2021 17:13

It is indeed the right direction Smile

Inastatus · 16/02/2021 17:17

@TeaInTheGarden - that’s great news about the SA variant.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/02/2021 17:28

All the daily figures are down by around 25% since last week aren't they?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/02/2021 17:38

Eminent statisticians Sir David Spiegelhalter, from the University of Cambridge, said today he was 'sticking my neck out' and predicting Covid deaths could tumble to 'normal' levels by next month.

The top scientist told Times Radio: 'Compared to the first one (Covid wave), we went up really fast, because we weren't taking any measures really at all. We were late putting in restrictions. And we went up very fast (in terms of deaths). And we came down really quite slowly.

'This time, we went up very slowly, throughout autumn, then with the new variant went up faster over Christmas, but we're coming down actually remarkably fast.'

thatgingergirl · 16/02/2021 17:46

Truely - almost 28% for cases - so encouraging.

One of my friends shared this - I swear I'm not obsessed with partially undressed males www.facebook.com/jeanphilippe.lambotte.56/videos/130266155632489

Interesting about the mushrooms. I have a UVC light, will have to see what it does to our next delivery as it said it works post harvesting! There is some vitamin D in mushrooms naturally, but it's variable and not a great source compared to oily fish or egg yolk.

I'm definitely not one of the Twitterers as I don't have an account (behind the times). I'm not on Instagram either

Happy Birthday Whatever

Some personal good news, the surgery have just called my 24 year old son and he’s booked in for his vaccine on Thursday. I’m so so SO relieved, he’s a secondary school teacher and the speculation about schools going back this week has worried me something stupid for him. We thought he was CV but his condition doesn’t exactly appear on the government list.
Great timing too with it being half term with regard to the possibility of side effects.

tobee · 16/02/2021 18:36

Late to the pancake talk. I love a pancake but am now pleased that my dd makes them for us all. I'm still traumatised from when they were kids and pancakes were eaten in a nano second
