Venting about family and friends not sticking to rules thread

nanbread · 12/02/2021 22:31

I'm feeling pissed off because I want this to end, but I know so many people of all ages and backgrounds who aren't sticking to Covid rules, and I feel like this sort of behaviour is prolonging us coming out of lockdown.

PIL have regular dinner dates (2/3 per week) with different people each time.

Friends and family members are going to each other's houses because they don't like walks. And not just locally either - in some cases traveling 50/60 miles to see friends.

Friends of my DC are having birthday parties inviting others - just slightly smaller ones, at home.

I'm not talking about people who are lonely or in MH crisis who need some human contact. I understand this situation is horrible, I hate it, and I don't blame them for wanting to socialise, but I'm annoyed that it is potentially costing my children more weeks and months off school, costing me more of my career, making me wait longer for a happier life.

Good for them Smile

A year into this and people have had enough. We've had a year of our lives and our children's lives on hold and people have got to the point where enough is enough.
If people can go to hospitals who are ill and cant be separated from Covid patients and catch the virus, I'm sure your friends children can have a birthday party.
If people can pack into supermarkets and BM for a plant then your family can go to each others house.

Their behaviour is normal human behaviour, who need to interact and socialise.
Our government changing the goal posts due to variants (which they had anticipated from the start) is prolonging lockdown.

Let them do what they want and you carry on with your life.

HopelessBlue192 · 12/02/2021 22:41

You do you OP and let them do them.

Isn't it funny how there are all these people breaching covid restrictions that people go on about but the case numbers are still coming down?

Linearpark · 12/02/2021 22:44

Please link to peer reviewed articles that show evidence that masks are effective, social distancing works and lockdowns have significantly reduced transmission.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 12/02/2021 22:44

How many of them have caught or spread covid from their misdemeanors. I'm guessing quite a few?

Linearpark · 12/02/2021 22:45

The fact remains that certain people do as they are told ad infinitum, and others get to a certain point when they smell a rat.

It will be like looking for rocking horse shit.
Linearpark · 12/02/2021 22:46

The rat is WEF and Klaus Schwaab...

Linearpark · 12/02/2021 22:47

Sorry I genuinely do not know what rocking horse shit means

Grin this made me laugh out loud the first time in months.
Rocking horses made out of wood don't shit. Therefore it would very very hard to find Grin

Linearpark · 12/02/2021 22:51

Oh okay, I guess you are agreeing with me. Yesterday someone reported me for suggesting that a healthy immune system gets rid of the virus and, although it is hard to be healthy when you are aged, taking vit d and zinc helps your immune system stay healthy. Hmm

Linearpark · 12/02/2021 22:53

As Julia H-B said, any society using kids to take the hit is problematic ( think she said worse)

nanbread · 12/02/2021 22:57

Let them do what they want and you carry on with your life.

I am letting them do what they want, I can't fucking stop them can I. I don't say anything to them. That's why I'm venting here.

It's not just them as individuals, it's everyone who is potentially prolonging this situation. I'm more angry at the government.

So you’re venting about the potential?
That’s not very rational.

DuchessofHastings1 · 12/02/2021 23:03

@nanbread and people are angry they're still living this way after a year of lockdowns and face coverings. We have all put our lives on hold to save the NHS. We have vaccines with over 95% efficiency rates. The top groups have been vaccinated. How long do you think people should hold out for?

Linearpark · 12/02/2021 23:05

Indeed, I find euromomo (www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps) most enlightening in terms of increased deaths, especially the z-score graphs. Just know someone will report me for that.

Jackie2022 · 12/02/2021 23:07

One of my friends is a full time Instagram influencer and has probably spent about 2 weeks total in the UK in the past few months. She keeps swanning off to Dubai, Mexico, Ibiza etc for content and for her mental health. As travel restrictions are becoming more prevalent, she’s annoying me

You can find "evidence" on lockdowns both claiming they're effective, and that they're not.

This is a venting thread, Google's over there --->

Venting is often not very rational. Your point?

Claudia it saddens me how unknowledgeable people are about science. I'm a retired immunologist and never heard about "the scientists" till recently. You actually think a physicist knows jackshit about virology? You actually think all immunologists or medics agree with with their peers? Certain ones are being struck off tweeter, that's true. Always considered epidemiology to be the media studies of biology, I may be wrong. Did you know the great man who designed the great predictive graphs has several failures behind him (Andrew Pollard). A bit like like Dido Harding but more destructive.

I don't want to hold out any longer than you do.

But what am I meant to do?

Office is shut.

Career is fucked.

Schools are shut.

All children's activities are shut.

Family hundreds of miles away. Some thousands of miles.

Friends staying away / in bubbles with other family or friends.

If I threw a party for my DC's birthday, no one I know would come.

As long as lockdown is enforced none of that will change.

OP posts:
DuchessofHastings1 · 12/02/2021 23:13

Maybe if you listened to what others are saying, you might not get so pissed off.
If you think children's tea parties are prolonging the lockdown, no wonder your getting your knickers in a twist.

ilovesooty · 12/02/2021 23:15

I don't have any family or friends behaving like this, thankfully. It saves me making decisions about further contact with them. A friend of my close friend though flew all over the place last summer, including several times to her casual boyfriend in a densely populated urban area in Europe, where she stayed in his shared house, travelled from our Tier 3 area to attend a wedding party in Tier 2 last year and stayed overnight, and is vocal about not having the vaccine. She works face to face with vulnerable people.

DuchessofHastings1 · 12/02/2021 23:17

Exactly it is shit.

As long as people keep doing this, the government will prolong along this.

We have had a lockdown for a year, face covering for 6 months plus, we have vaccines but yet people are still expected to do this.

Write to your MP and let them know what you think about lockdowns. If everyone just vents on here, nothing will change.

Linearpark · 12/02/2021 23:17

Oh dear Nanbread (it's naan btw) you have sooooo much faith you clearly haven't actually checked for evidence-based peer -reviewed articles, have you! It's proper frightening. It's reality denial.
