A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

Not late March

I got this by email today

The 1st vaccination clinics will be held from Wednesday 31st March – Tuesday 13th April & the 2nd vaccination clinics from Wednesday 21st April – Tuesday 4th May.

Vermutwitholive · 12/03/2021 16:58

It looks like the different trial centres have slightly different dates but it looks like they are all finally gearing into action which is good. Maybe they were waiting for the final data results. If they had communicated this to us all instead of giving lots of conflicting info it would have minimised the anxiety. Still looks like we are finally moving though hoorah!

andadietcoke · 13/03/2021 11:31

Given my fb timeline seems to be entirely people whinging about side effects from the vaccine I'm now wondering whether I had the placebo after all! Could it be possible that Novavax is so much better in terms of side effects than the others?!

Frazzled2207 · 13/03/2021 11:43

@andadietcoke
you did have side effects didn't you?
Anecdotally my pretty old parents have have now had 4 pfizer jabs and zero side effects between them.
I know several young-ish nurses who've had it and been ill. Seems totally random.

On a different note that media story that all over 40s are going to be offered a jab by easter is stressing me out slightly as that includes me. As long as I get a date before I get my NHS invitation I am happy. If not then I think I'm going to have to ask to be unblinded.

Just received my email!!! I have my first crossover vaccine appointment at 1pm on Friday 2nd April with the second one at 1pm on Friday 23rd April.

It’s happening!!!!

MrsHamlet · 13/03/2021 12:18

That's very exciting!

Monkeygirl68 · 13/03/2021 12:45

Is anyone on here from the Cardiff site? Was told that I would be in the crossover trial, but they are still waiting for the nod to proceed!?!

ItsSnowJokes · 13/03/2021 14:09

I have just received a text to book the nhs vaccine. I really was not expecting to receive it so soon. I am going to call them on Monday but I think I will stick with the trial if I will get the vaccine at the beginning of April. Will see what they say. I really want to stay with Novavax.

andadietcoke · 13/03/2021 15:31

@Frazzled2207 I did, but apart from the excruciating arm pain which I think was down to her hitting a nerve rather than anything it was all nothing of significant note - mild temperature, aching arm and neck, metallic taste.

andadietcoke · 13/03/2021 15:40

Yay @mollypuss1 glad they're getting started. I wonder what order they're doing people in. Hopefully in order of NHS group.

Vargas · 13/03/2021 15:43

That's great new mollypuss1!!

mollypuss1 · 13/03/2021 16:48

It looks like my centre is going in age order. My message said ‘we are starting with our oldest participants and working down to our youngest in order of vaccination’.

andadietcoke · 13/03/2021 18:16

That's good. A very sensible and fair way of doing it.

Level75 · 13/03/2021 21:31

My DH can't decide about the crossover. Have any of you been unblinded? I'm thinking if he's already had the jab back in October then maybe he should take the NHS one as he'll be offered v soon. Thinking entirely selfishly here.

andadietcoke · 13/03/2021 22:32

@Level75 quite a few people have been unblinded. I think the best advice is probably to wait for his crossover appt or his NHS one and then see which is sooner. I guess the benefits of Novavax over NHS is that it might be a week later but he'll get both doses by the beginning of May.

AliJo2 · 13/03/2021 23:38

I've had my NHS appointment through and have waited all week to speak to the trial Doctor. He called today and said crossover trial will be 17/18 April, so now I need to decide whether to wait for that or be unblinded. I keep changing my mind at the moment.

Cooroo · 13/03/2021 23:50

@Vermutwitholive

In Bradford trial. Just got phone call with dates for crossover injections starting April. Very relieved as it was getting near to my NHS call up time and was not relishing the dilemma! This way will all be done by mid May.
Bradford too but I haven't heard. Got invitation from health centre for my NHS one on Friday. So hard to decide! Since Bradford are going ahead I guess I have to wait??
Frazzled2207 · 14/03/2021 10:15

@Cooroo
No you don’t-in your cases I would be calling the clinic tomorrow and if they can’t give you a date would be asking to unblind

Makes sense but i suspect many of the older folk will have been unblinded already so might not be many

A big advantage to me atm and worth waiting a short while longer perhaps is that I’d know what I was getting. I have no issues with either the AZ or Pfizer but as I’ve come this far want the best stuff! And to be done and dusted with both doses quickly too.

andadietcoke · 14/03/2021 10:30

I'm 39 (and a half!) so I'm not expecting the NHS one any time soon so it's a bit of an easier decision for me but even if I was offered NHS at this point, if the crossover appts are starting at the beginning of April I'd stick with that as would have both doses (and also semi-assuming I've had the active vaccine anyway). I'm also keen to stay in the trial for the booster / combo sub-studies they're talking about for the autumn.

Cooroo · 15/03/2021 09:42

I just rang Bradford centre. They've had the go-ahead for the crossover trial and I've booked for 13 April. So I'll have had 2 doses (if I haven't already) by early May. What a relief!

Frazzled2207 · 15/03/2021 10:35

@Cooroo
sounds good. Do you think you'll get your NHS invite before then? If so what will you do?
At this rate I think very possible I could get an nhs invite before my novavax jab (in my 40s) but if I can hopefully get a date in the next week or so I think I'm happy to carry on

just emailed Stockport for an update and got this response

Cross-over visits (Blinded participants): Regulatory approvals are still awaited with the final study paperwork for this. Novavax have advised that it will definitely go ahead and vaccine will be on site from 25 March 2021. We will be scheduling visits from 31 March 2021. Our team will be in contact once Novavax have given us the green light to start booking in appointments with you (likely over this week). We thank you again for your patience.
