A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

I got the same Leeds email.

ItsSnowJokes · 08/03/2021 17:36

I have just been to Bournemouth for my blood test. Asked about the crossover trial. It is starting end of March here, but, they will give you the vaccine/placebo when you are called for your NHS vaccine.

So basically you get the text/letter saying you are now entitled to the vaccine you call them up and they will offer to unblind you or do the crossover trial. So it could still be a bit of a wait for me (in my 40s so not expecting it soon), the good advantage is you will have the 2nd vaccine within the 3 weeks rather than the 10-12 weeks for the nhs second vaccine.

Evenstar · 09/03/2021 08:44

I got an invitation for the NHS vaccine yesterday, I have spoken to Synexus and been asked to send proof of my vaccine offer and covering email saying I am willing to take part in the cross blind trial. I was due to go on the 15th anyway so will be keeping that appointment and discussing it all then. I am happy to carry on as long as I don’t miss out on having a certificate for when things open up.

ItsSnowJokes · 09/03/2021 15:44

@Evenstar I asked about the vaccine passport at my appt yesterday and they said they would write to your gp stating you had had 2 x vaccines on either x or y date and that a passport can be issued.

Evenstar · 09/03/2021 15:47

@ItsSnowJokes thank you, that has really reassured me, really happy to stay on the trial, but don’t want to miss out on things especially as DH has already had his first jab on NHS

MrsHamlet · 09/03/2021 16:35

I was at Chorley for my second antibody visit today.
New paperwork but apparently the crossover trial hasn't been confirmed yet... it's likely but not definite.

BG2015 · 09/03/2021 20:26

I've had a letter from my NHS trust stating the dates and type of vaccine I had.

Another letter has gone to my GP.

Not sure if I can use it as proof but suppose it's better than nothing until we know what/if passports will be issued.

CardinalCat · 10/03/2021 16:12

I've had an email today from my clinic saying that they are intending to take part in the cross-over trial and details will be sent "in the coming weeks". Progress! (although I'm slightly nervous that my letter will be due any day now for nhs vaccine and I need to decide what to do. I'd prefer to stay on the trial obviously but with our family children back at school and DP being a teacher (unvaccinated and much younger than me, so not likely to be vaxed very soon) I'm keen not to submit myself to undue delay. I really hope they manage to expedite this!

MrsHamlet · 10/03/2021 17:54

I got an email today but it was about getting new envelopes!

QueenAnnesHat · 10/03/2021 18:54

Having been told that I would be sent information about the crossover trial early this week, I have heard nothing from Novavax. I'd already cancelled one set of NHS vaccine appointments, so I have made another appointment for next week and will phone tomorrow to be unblinded. The advantage of having two shots just three weeks apart is diminishing against the delay in getting the first vaccination. It's a shame, but I think I've done my bit - my husband has now had his first vaccination and my 24 year old DS, who has an underlying health condition, will get his at the end of this week - I don't think I can hang on any longer.

BG2015 · 10/03/2021 19:32

It's very hard to wait isn't it when everyone around you is being called up.

They're shooting themselves in the foot by not moving fast!

Torvean · 11/03/2021 00:12

The delay is getting everything signed off for the Crossover at Novovax. The dates will be towards end March/start April.

I got my new labels from Novovax through the post today.

Frazzled2207 · 11/03/2021 13:35

@QueenAnnesHat
It's a tough call but right decision. You have done something very useful. If it turns out you had it in the autumn hopefully you can continue in the trial.

So I understand but my last appointment was on 8th February at which time the doc in charge seemed to think it was a done deal, seems very odd that it still hasn't been approved.

I went to Hexham today and the doctor said they are waiting for sign off and hoping to start end of March/beginning of April. Neither he nor the nurse knew in what order they would call people up. The nurse stressed that a good thing about waiting for Novavax is that we will get the two jabs 3 weeks apart. She also said Novavax is a brilliant vaccine. I agreed. Not that we are biased or anything!

I was also given the new consent form to sign, plus the letter about symptoms.

andadietcoke · 12/03/2021 07:57

Yay @ItsSnowJokes it looks like that's the second wave of data they've been telling us about. I'll take 96%!

ItsSnowJokes · 12/03/2021 08:49

Its great news isn't it? The data coming out is making me want to stay with the trial. Our hub is doing it differently that you have to wait till called for vaccine by the nhs for the crossover trial so I don't expect to be called until end of April beginning of May at the earliest, but to get the vaccine 3 weeks apart as opposed to 12 weeks is a big win. Just wish I could have it now so I know I have definitely had it as I am sure I had the placebo.

Frazzled2207 · 12/03/2021 09:14

It is very good news but we have to take the 85% figure rather than 96% as almost all infections in the UK currently are the dodgy Kent strain I think.

Re the three week break yes that’s good but don’t forget the Az jab seems to prefer (for want of a better word) a longer break between. They won’t have the data yet as nobody had it in more than three week intervals but it could presumably eventually turn out that novavax also prefers a longer break between doses.

Hopefully there is enough data now to be approved soon in the uk?

andadietcoke · 12/03/2021 09:47

@Frazzled2207 you'd think so especially if MH is shouting about it.

Maiyakat · 12/03/2021 15:02

I had my 4th appointment this week. Got thanked several times for attending although I've been unblinded which made me think lots of people aren't turning up... Apparently they're still waiting for the crossover trial to be confirmed and hoping to start at the beginning of April. Obviously I can't take part as I've been Pfizered, would have been nice to have had 'our' vaccine!

Vermutwitholive · 12/03/2021 15:13

In Bradford trial. Just got phone call with dates for crossover injections starting April. Very relieved as it was getting near to my NHS call up time and was not relishing the dilemma! This way will all be done by mid May.

Frazzled2207 · 12/03/2021 15:28

@vermut. That’s good. So not last March after all then. I was under the impression I’d be sorted by the end of April. If I don’t get it till April i might get my nhs invite first.
