A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

Oh what a relief @BG2015

So you can carry on with the crossover trial and any other bits afterwards too?

BG2015 · 23/02/2021 18:46

Don't see the point in the cross over trial, they will only inject me with saline.

The dr did talk to me about if I thought any other teachers would be willing to come forward who have had the national roll out vaccines for a separate arm of the trial where they could test for antibodies.

I did say that the main barrier to that would be time, teachers can't just book a morning off to give blood, they would have to offer a Saturday clinic or late afternoon/evening for people to take part.

He said they had discussed that at a previous meeting.

andadietcoke · 23/02/2021 19:13

@BG2015 no, but I'd be tempted to stay in for potential booster / combi add ins.

Agree re teachers. DH is a secondary teacher and wouldn't be able to go on a weekday. I went on a weekend for my first couple of appointments but since then have been week days.

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 19:15

I have so far had all my weekday appointments when I have a convenient free period at the end of the day ... but it takes me two hours to get there from school!!!

ItsSnowJokes · 23/02/2021 19:19

I'm back on the 8th March, for my 3 month check and really hoping they have news on the crossover trial. I just want the vaccine. And I have no idea if I had it or not. I think I had placebo.

mollypuss1 · 23/02/2021 19:22

I’ve just had my email!

Confirmed that the Crossover starts on March 22nd with second doses from 12th April and with the aim of all participants being fully vaccinated by the end of April.

They are posting 3 new postage labels to stick on the swab boxes should we become symptomatic to stick over the existing postage label so that the swabs can now be DNA sequenced to detect each strain.

As I’m 42 with no underlying health conditions I’m over the moon with this news.

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 19:37

Oooh that's exciting molly.
My next appointment is March 9th.

Fab news (also the 42 club) I hope I get some communication soon

@BG2015

I had the vaccine! So pleased and glad that I unblinded.

My first jab was 21st October and second 11th November.

The dr didn't even ask me for proof. He said the cross over trial won't start until after the 22nd March and could possibly be a week after that.

I will still continue with the trial.

Right call @BG2015 And what a relief with the return to school imminent. You had the best stuff....ages ago! What proof do you mean?

i'm self employed and not been very busy throughout the pandemic so been flexible but it must be an issue getting working age adults involved.

My clinic does do early mornings though - I think from 7am

Hello everyone, I’ve just discovered this thread and I seem to have missed a whole thread already! I had my first trial jab at the beginning of November, and had no symptoms whatsoever for either jab.

I’m really excited to hear about the crossover study - I’m convinced I had placebo and I’m late 40s so not expecting a call from the NHS any time soon. I haven’t had an email today, but my 4th appointment is on Friday, so I’ll be able to ask them about it then.

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 19:58

Mine offered me a 7.15am appointment but that would mean I couldn't get to school for period 1. I do wish they'd do late nights (last appointment offered is always 3.15!) or weekends.

ItsSnowJokes · 23/02/2021 20:22

The last appt at our one is 3.55pm and the earliest 8.30am. Luckily I have an ace employer who has said if I am late in or leave early they are happy as they see it as me being community minded and helping the fight against covid. I think it also looks good to them as they say about it in the newsletters lol.

BG2015 · 23/02/2021 20:36

Frazzled proof that I'd been called for a vaccine. I think back in January they were asking to see emails when people were requesting to be unblinded.

My next appointment is in May at 3.40pm, school ends at 3.20pm, luckily I've got a student teacher who will cover so I can leave.

I've given up my planning afternoons previously

Frazzled2207 · 23/02/2021 21:07

@BG2015 ah yes of course. Senior moment .
Agree as a teacher it's very difficult, am impressed you managed to find the time to sign up and go along in the first place! Yeah evenings would surely be better for most people. At my last appointment they wanted to know what day of the week was best for me for the crossover jabs. I got a puzzled face when I said it really wasn't to do with day of the week but time of day for me.

@werekitty
did you get any news today?

OP posts:
Vargas · 23/02/2021 22:17

Hurrah! I got the email today about the crossover too, but no dates. Just saying that they will contact me in 'the coming weeks'. I'm still fairly convinced I got vaccine first time round, but who knows?

I'm 50+ so I guess I could get called up for the NHS one fairly soon....

Daftapath · 23/02/2021 22:24

Those with emails about start dates for the crossover study, what centres are you at?

mollypuss1 · 23/02/2021 22:49

I’m at Layton (Blackpool) and I got my email from Dr Clark who is the main doctor overseeing the trial at my centre.
BG2015 · 24/02/2021 05:00

Just remembered another thing the Dr said, they will send a letter to my GP to say that I'm vaccinated- presume I could request a copy as proof

Frazzled2207 · 24/02/2021 08:44

@BG that’s good to know

Anatomical · 24/02/2021 11:21

Norfolk and Norwich have confirmed they are taking part in the cross-over trial. I'm fairly confident I've already had the vaccine but don't mind having another two jabs to make sure!

Woventabby · 24/02/2021 16:39

Things are moving so fast for people here, and it's a decision time for me, too. I am 50+ in London, and was invited to book my first vaccine from GP this morning. Talked to the trial team, and asked to be unblinded. I had some reactions after the jabs, and I didn't develop any symptoms when the family members tested positive for Covid. So that has led me to think I got real vaccine last year. If so, it will be straightforward - stay in the trial.

Woventabby · 24/02/2021 16:45

I just noticed that an email sent by a trial doctor mentions that the crossover trial is only available to people who remain blinded. I will think hard tonight and make a decision (before they phone me tomorrow) if I really want to be unblinded, then lose the opportunity for the crossover trial. I have been emotionally so invested in this trial that it's hard to let it go now!

Frazzled2207 · 24/02/2021 17:05

@Woventabby
exciting. Have they not let you know yet?
