A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

@BG2015
Ah if you're a teacher that' s def a tough one. I hope we at least get a date in the next fortnight. The fact that I will get the second dose within 3 weeks will be motivation to sit tight I think.

My 40 something asthmatic mate is getting NHS vaccine today. It's getting closer....

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 14:24

I teach secondary. The magic tape is supposed to keep me safe...

BG2015 · 19/02/2021 19:47

My DP has had the text for the vaccine today, he's going on Tuesday. He's 55 and had a kidney removed last summer which proved to be cancerous (he's totally well now and the cancer was contained) so I think the combination of age and cancer is the factor here.

Then later this afternoon I had the text too. Totally shocked to be honest. Looked at the dates and if I had the Novavax vaccine week of 29/3 I'd have the second one week beg 19/4.

If I went with NHS I'd have first one next week then second one mid May. Decided to stick with Novavax.

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 19:51

Wow, BG

BG2015 · 19/02/2021 20:00

GP surgery also rang me and asked me what I wanted to do (my clinic gave us a letter to pass to our GP's so they knew about the trial)

I explained about the crossover trial and that I'd be covered sooner with the Novavax vaccine.

She's taken me off the texting system otherwise I'd have got bombarded if I didn't respond and they've put a note on my file.

I'm undecided whether to ring the trial clinic on Monday.

Frazzled2207 · 19/02/2021 20:34

@BG2015
wow
With you being a teacher I would have been seriously tempted to go get it. I think you should ring the trial clinic and see if you can get a date off them. And if not ask if you can unblind.

I'm pretty sure I had the vaccine as I had a reaction after the second dose. Lasted for about 24 hours and I felt rough, headache, woke up with a raised temp, achy and just didn't feel right.

If I hadn't felt that way I'd probably opt for the NHS vaccine.

They just better be up and ready to roll in a month!

Frazzled2207 · 19/02/2021 21:55

@BG2015
Ah I see.
I got absolutely zilch so am convinced the other way.

Really pleased to read about the crossover trial. I signed up but got kicked out on the initial assessment day. Had to do an early walk of shame out of there Blush.
I did make my DH sign up instead though so at least one in the family is participating.

Torvean · 20/02/2021 01:53

In Scoyland it seems to be going so much slower in general vaccination.
Not heard of anyone under 70 being done.
But if you say anything Nicola Sturgeon's fan club bash you.

GingerScallop · 20/02/2021 02:21

Just to say everyone who participated in the trials is a hero/ine in my books. I so wanted to participate especially because of the low numbers of participants from Africa/BAME participants but was pregnant so couldn't. You truly are amazing selfless people

Frazzled2207 · 20/02/2021 08:06

@Thunderbolted

Oh no! Pleased your dh is on it. Let us know if he has any progress on the next two shots!

@GingerScallop

That’s a shame as you’re right BAME people are very underrepresented. I think the whole covid vaccines thing is going to be long term though. So there may be opportunities for your after baby is born and you’ve finished bf

GingerScallop · 20/02/2021 08:58

@Frazzled2207, yes am hoping once we wean, I can participate in a COVID trial or some clinical trial. No 1 stopped bf'd when he was almost 2.5 though (and I was preg with this one) so who knows. But I do strongly feel I need to do my bit for increased BAME participation in clinical trial. We need that for more inclusive medicine

CardinalCat · 22/02/2021 13:24

I had my 3 month check last week (big hospital in Scotland) and the trial nurse looked at me blankly when I mentioned the crossover trial. I explained to her what was happening in some other clinics and she said she highly doubted our clinic would have capacity to do it. Bit disappointing if true! (Of course she may just not know yet what is being planned, and our clinic is running a few different trials so it may be it's just not feasible.)

werekitty · 22/02/2021 13:38

My three month check is tomorrow, will be asking if they are participating in the cross over trial at Chorley. Really hope so.

BG2015 · 23/02/2021 06:27

I think I'm going to ask to be unblinded. With schools opening fully in 2 weeks and everyone around me going for vaccines I feel quite unnerved.

I just want to know. If I had the vaccine then I don't need to go for two further appointments for jabs (which are awkward to attend as the clinic is only now open for 2 days a week)

I will still go for follow up bloods.

I think it's the best thing to do for me, my health and mental well-being. If I haven't had the vaccine I could be protected quicker by going for the NHS rollout for school to start than waiting another 4/5 weeks.

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 07:49

You need to protect yourself, BG
I'm crossing my fingers I had the real thing because I don't trust the magic tape.

andadietcoke · 23/02/2021 10:06

@BG2015 I think it's worth a phone call. If you had a firm date for the crossover trial then that would help you make a clear decision either way.

Do what's best for you.

Vargas · 23/02/2021 14:39

Anyone else get an email today asking to let them know if contact details or GP details have changed? Because they need to post something to us. Could be relevant to crossover?

werekitty · 23/02/2021 14:55

Just been to my appointment, apparently they have had approval today for the crossover trial. Will take a couple of weeks to setup and start appointments as they don't have any vaccine available at the moment. There is also talk of a continuing study with a booster against variants.

AVictoryProduct · 23/02/2021 15:19

Oooh @werekitty thanks for the update. Very exciting. I have my 4th appointment on 11th March so I'm really hoping I can have a jab then. The timing might just work.

@Vargas I haven't had an email today.

andadietcoke · 23/02/2021 15:38

No email here either. Good news about the approval and exciting about the booster for variants.

BG2015 · 23/02/2021 16:26

I had the vaccine! So pleased and glad that I unblinded.

My first jab was 21st October and second 11th November.

The dr didn't even ask me for proof. He said the cross over trial won't start until after the 22nd March and could possibly be a week after that.

I will still continue with the trial.

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 16:55

Hooray BG - that must be a relief.
