A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

@Torvean

I ended up in the FB group where it was about the ppl that invested shares. I didn't find it that interesting so I left. However some dates coming up soon. Might have been the 22nd ( could be wrong). This was the big date when they had to decide what to do with their shares. And it obviously relates to approval going through or not. Ppl were currently making an ok profit on the money they invested.

I found the other group after that. I thought ppl in the US were being paid for the study, but I've seen no mention of it. I just wondered with a lot of ppl talking of quiting, and if they don't complete they don't get paid.

I think they are getting paid, I read somewhere it was about $1000 for the complete study, but I may be wrong.

A lot in the US have kind of unblinded themselves as they can easily get antibody tests out there and they seem to do them regularly!

Frazzled2207 · 19/04/2021 08:14

The american fb thread is interesting. They seem to be mostly a bit behind us in terms of the crossover, getting their next appointments about now.
But yes apparently you can easily get an antibody test there - might even be covered By insurance- so most of them seem to know what they had in the autumn. So not exactly still blinded are they!

I disagree with them antibody testing as it effects your behaviour. Its supposed to be blind.
They should have put conditions on not doing it, unless needed for work.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 19/04/2021 12:16

I'm on both of those groups. In the vaccine group they talked a lot about the payment aspect of it at first, a few of months ago. I think they get around $1500. The vast majority are having private antibody tests. There have been a few arguments about it and now they don't allow any posts criticising those who do!
It backs up the reasoning behind the UK's stance on not paying participants. If they are motivated my monetary reward, their commitment to the principles of the trial might be weaker, as evidenced by their unblinding.

The investor group is interesting but I've bought shares so I'm doubly invested! I don't understand a word of it and I'm definitely a small fish in a big pond!

I'm currently waiting for my 15 and 30 minute obs after my first crossover shot. So far so good.

NB: People were asking what the blood pressure threshold was - it's 160 for the top number. Despite my white coat hypertension, I passed - just!

Frazzled2207 · 19/04/2021 15:54

@PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears
It’s a very interesting question about (not) paying participants, you’re certainly more likely to get a different type of volunteer aren’t you. But the being effectively unblinded by having an antibody test, yeah that should be allowed though extremely difficult to enforce.

I wonder how reliable the positive antibody test is though. I mean you couldn’t know for sure it was from the vaccine could you? And perhaps in a small percentage of people the vaccine might just not work?
Pleased you have had it and are feeling well. 4th and final shots for me and @andadietcoke on Thursday.

Should NOT be allowed

I had my first crossover appointment yesterday in Ipswich. No swag but they showed me a certificate that we'll get at the final appointment which shows the four dates the vaccine or placebo were given.

Torvean · 20/04/2021 01:59

@Frazzled2207 I read one person who hot their cardiology Dr to do antibody check at their routine appointment!!

Torvean · 21/04/2021 03:24

After our second crossover do we get the vaccination certificate?

Then is that it dependant on booster?

Kind of feels weird that its ending.

Monkeygirl68 · 21/04/2021 06:26

@Torvean at my crossover appointment, I asked the doctor if we would get some sort of verification that, at some point, we have had the vaccine. I was assured that on the second crossover appointment that I would be given a card to say that I have received a vaccine. Also she told me that, according to the new documentation that I signed, I would be committing to stay in the trial for a further 12 months.

I do feel ‘special’ though being part of a trial and positively contributing. It opens up lots of questions when people ask me if I’ve ‘had the vaccine’ 😂🤣

SpeckleDust · 21/04/2021 10:07

I’ve had my 4th vaccine/second crossover appointment this morning (Cheadle/Stockport centre) - I’m officially fully vaccinated Grin

It was a bit quicker this morning and I was there for exactly 75 minutes. Dr Baxter told us that Novavax were still in the process of submission for the MHRA but should be doing so very soon.

This vaccine hurt a bit going in but I think that’s more to do with the vaccinator’s technique as I barely felt the last one. Had my observations done before and after the jab then had to wait 30 mins again. Next appointment will basically be at the end of the trial.

I also got my A4 certificate!

Fab @SpeckleDust
Looking forward to mine tomorrow

Me too! Although already stressing about the BP check again. I'm such an idiot.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 21/04/2021 12:46

I guess that we’ll be unblinded by default when it comes to the booster. Doc said that those in the November vaccine group will be called for booster in October, so if you don’t get called you’ll know you were in the November placebo group and therefore vaccinated in April.

Frazzled2207 · 21/04/2021 13:43

@JosephineDeBeauharnais
ooh so if we had in april do we not get a booster or do we get it later?
Do we get bloods taken in the autumn and is that the end as it stands?

OP posts:
JosephineDeBeauharnais · 21/04/2021 13:47

I’m assuming that we wouldn’t get a booster this year if in the April group. The antibody testing will tell them how long immunity lasts so presumably by the end of this year they’ll have a good fix on that and will decide what the booster schedule should be.

Torvean · 21/04/2021 14:12

When do you go back @SpeckleDust?

Thats interesting to know @Monkeygirl68. I need to reread my contract. I was not told anything about being in it for another year.

Torvean · 21/04/2021 14:26

I just reread all the information data.

Id forgotten our blood's been shipped to the states and may be stored up to 25 years!

I wasn't as impressed where it said our medical information maybe used in countries abroad where the legal system is not of the standard of the UK

andadietcoke · 21/04/2021 15:15

@Torvean because the subjects are in the UK and the data has been obtained in the UK we're protected by GDPR, even if it's being processed in the US.

Torvean · 21/04/2021 15:24

I thought it meant going abroad as in Europe/Asia/Africa. If its just the states that's not as bad.

Def not signed anything agreeing to 12 month increase and my 2nd crossover is next week.

andadietcoke · 21/04/2021 16:33

Oh. Still GDPR though because we are in the UK.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 21/04/2021 17:16

@andadietcoke

Me too! Although already stressing about the BP check again. I'm such an idiot.
The threshold is 160 for the top figure. Mine was 150 and he just laughed! At home every day for a week it had been 115!
BG2015 · 21/04/2021 18:05

What happens with the people that were unblinded and haven't done the crossover trial?

Do we get a certificate?

I've had a letter that also went to my dr but it's not a NOVAVAX official thing, just from the trust.

andadietcoke · 21/04/2021 20:11

@PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears it's my bottom number that's the issue. Top is normally about 120. I'm taking photos of my readings again tonight and tomorrow morning and hoping it's in my notes from last time too.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 21/04/2021 20:39

Well that's good. He said there wasn't a threshold on the bottom number.
