A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

Had a phone call this morning from the trial so now have both appointments for the crossover. First one is next week, 31st March

For those booked in for crossover, where in the country are you?

Leeds. Crossover booked for April 19th which is the day they start.

Stockport. First appointment on the 1st April.

Same. Am not aware of any centres not doing the crossover though some might not have organised appointments yet.

I'm in Glasgow (QEUH) and got a call today to book my crossover appointments. 6th and 27th April.

I'm the one from upthread who they unblinded by mistake. I didn't ask or want to be unblinded. A letter just landed on my doorstep telling me I'd had the placebo. I rang the trial and the first woman I spoke to said it was fine, shred the letter, it was a mistake and not meant for you.

But the lead investigator just rang me to say I can't take part in the crossover trial anymore because of the mistake. She was very apologetic but I'm really pissed off. I want to cry. I was so looking forward to having the Novavax vaccine in April. And it's my birthday today too, I'm 43, so no longer part of the 42 club. Please send tissues.

oh my goodness that is rubbish. I can imagine exactly what you are feeling - I am very nearly 43 and I am really looking forward to getting the real thing next week having been certain that I got the placebo last time round.

I am counting down the days to having it and would be gutted if they'd suddenly said no. I just don't understand. And others have been unblinded and can stay in the trial - why can't you? and even if they can't why can't they just give it to you anyway as a thank you for your time - there was talk of this happening at the very end before the crossover plan came about.

Anyway I think that's really really rubbish. I'd be waiting until I'd calmed down a bit then writing a carefully worded and very cross letter to the lead doctor.

AVictory, that is really upsetting. I'd be very disappointed by that as well.

After my grumbling the other day, I got a call yesterday - Kings London first appointment booked for next Thursday. They offered me a slot this coming Monday but I have a really busy work diary.

I just emailed the Norwich trial as its been a month since they told us they would be starting the crossover part of the trial, I want to get booked in!

Update - booked for 13th April! I definately recommend ringing your trial site if you havent heard.

She did say she would keep me on her list if anything changes or they are able to give me a vaccine. She said the trial doses are tightly controlled and there are no spares. So it's just bad luck.

I will write a letter in a few weeks to have the mistake on record and to remind her of my existence. I know they will be busy with the crossover trial so I will be forgotten. All those hours of appointment time I have put in, and now just with one mistake I can't take part in the best bit! Oh well.

To answer your question about staying in the trial. I can stay in the trial and carry on with the appointments. But I can't take part in the crossover trial which is rubbish because I had the placebo in Nov/Dec last year. I know a benefit for volunteers isn't guaranteed, that's not the point. But I guess because the crossover trial was dangled in front of me and I suspected I'd had the placebo last year, I was really excited about getting the vaccine in April, potentially a month or so ahead of the NHS one. I was also looking forward to participating in the booster trial in the Autumn. Hopefully I won't be ruled out of that too.

It's doubly annoying because there is no one to complain to really because we are not guaranteed a personal benefit are we? We are just volunteers. Aargh.

@Dreamer1989 there is no email address for my clinic, and when I phone I feel like I’m ‘bothering’ them.....but getting twitchy because I’m in priority group 6 and getting constant texts, phone calls urging me to get my NHS vaccine.

DH is on the trial in Leeds and hasn't heard anything about booking. I think he had his jabs in October. Does anyone know if they are booking by date order or is it something else like age?

I’m with the Wrexham hub and got my phone call for the crossover appointments this afternoon - first one 12th April.
