I sometimes see good newsers on other threads and want to.cheercand wave at you. And feel better for you being there!
( Sorry, that's today's soppy Valentine's Day thought! ♥️. I'll go back to being a grumpy twallock now!)

I’ve seen posters trying to give balance on threads, it’s a really good thing to do, am sure it helps many people.

@FourTeaFallOut

People do this, don't they? It's a pattern now.

Prior to any major event or turn in this pandemic, those with oppositional views come out swinging, right up to the point the event is inevitable. Tier changes, lock downs, schools closing, schools opening, vaccines being licenced, vaccines being rolled out.

And all this noise has no bearing on the outcome. I don't know why I have engaged with it again. It'll pass - just as soon as it happens.

This is a really good post - there were threads on here that caused me real panic last year (on multiple occasions, actually) until I realised similar. It is all going to kick off again so badly as the schools open and then again at other points - including times next autumn winter when people will be on here predicting another massive peak of deaths despite the vaccine and improved treatments. I really don't expect it to die down for at least a year to 18 months - those kinds of comments, I mean, more than deaths etc. But as you say, those people don't change anything, they just make others miserable. It's a lot of noise and hot air.

I couldn't believe it last June/July. People were posting awful things about holidays mostly and I got myself away for a weekend expecting to have a brick through my car window based on the tone on here and yet everyone was so friendly and welcoming and sensible about social distancing. And lots of others were just out having fun, trying to have a nice time in as safe a ways as possible.

amicissimma · 14/02/2021 22:47

I always assume there's a lot of sock-puppetry going on on those threads. I can't allow myself to think that there are as many as it appears (in reality not many at all) think like that.

tobee · 14/02/2021 23:36

I never understand why if they're genuinely trying to get people to see their point of view that they chose to be so aggressive and/or insulting. 🤷🏻‍♀️

tobee · 14/02/2021 23:38

@chri55ie did you see @sailorrooscout today? Looks like you are correct in your guess that she is a woman! There was something about "why don't I use my name/post a photo etc?" And replying to self "if I wanted to be famous I'd be an actress"! Grin

Oo yes I did see that. I almost replied to say I knew you were female! So good to see so many amazing female scientists!

I know it's the sun which is probably worse than the fail but:

www.thesun.co.uk/news/14038729/hotels-open-easter-r-rate-low-lockdown/

But of a turn around from no holidays at all even in the summer. What has it been... A week?

nothingpunny · 15/02/2021 06:55

Does anyone know when the vaccine booking site will start to allow group 6 to book at all? I've been trying this morning but it is just saying over 65's and clinically extremely vulnerable still.

Huge thanks for these threads by the way. They are the only thing keeping me sane at the moment Grin It makes a very nice antidote from the rest of the site.

Yugi · 15/02/2021 07:03

I have heard that all group 6 will be done via GPs not the mass vaccination sites. So we need to wait to be contacted.

nothingpunny · 15/02/2021 07:10

Thank you @Yugi. I guess it is just waiting for the magic text now Grin

Blessex · 15/02/2021 07:17

@starfish88 I think that’s because nobody ever said ‘no holidays in the summer’. That was the media headline.

I’ve actually seen this reported in one of the more reputable newspapers this morning as well (think it was the guardian)

By the sounds of it there are 4 different timescales the government has in mine - from the most optimistic which is what now seems to be popping up in the papers, to gradually longer timescales depending on how case, death rates are etc

I must confess to having a wobble already today - it’s starting to give me anxiety that all the papers seem to only categorise everything closed as being a “non-essential shop” or a “pub/restaurant”...I’ve seen literally no mention of anything like gyms, swimming pools etc.

I think this has been the most up and down week of the pandemic so far. 😏

Blessex · 15/02/2021 07:44

It’s the media playing us. Just wait until 22 Feb.

I bet they haven't said grab you're bikini for a holiday at Easter but when has that ever stopped the headlines! As Pp have said, I imagine they have a whole range of options and timescales but with cases, hospitalizations and deaths falling the way they are and the vaccine program going well we can hope we are on one of the better timelines!

Yes there does seem to be a lot of talk about schools, non essential shops and the hospitality industry. I suppose these are things that matter to a lot of people. I'm waiting for other things too (bootcamp and running club - both outdoor) as I'm sure other people are. I think there will be more fed through in the coming days.

I never understand why if they're genuinely trying to get people to see their point of view that they chose to be so aggressive and/or insulting
Yes calling people stupid or an idiot for choosing to have a bit of hope. What does it matter if someone has booked a holiday especially if they have taken out insurance or paid extra to be able to cancel at any time? Surely that makes someone sensible not an idiot.

Anyway today is the day that it starts to get warmer. For the past week I've looked out of the window and all I've seen is white. I want to see green. Its going to get up to 10 degrees here today so what is left of the snow (which there is still a bit despite the overnight rain and positive temps) should all be gone. Spring is around the corner. Just hope the snow doesn't come back now.

Now if we can have some post too that will be amazing. We've not had any post in our village for over a week now. Apparently the Royal Mail bosses gave a third of its workforce the week off and add that to any sickness or isolating people has meant that villages like ours have missed out. It was in the local paper too. For me its not too bad as I have ordered a couple of things, but nothing urgent, but for others they could be waiting for all sorts of things.
