Any idea when the vaccines might start for this group and how they'll be divided up ? It's a big group !

Just had to come on this thread and brag share. I just got a text from my GP inviting me to book - am booked for Thursday!

Group 6, carer 🙌

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 01/02/2021 13:01

The omnicalculator has group 6 from early March to mid april.

Fantastic some areas are ahead. We have a lot of retired people here so I think we will be later.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 01/02/2021 13:01

Wow Money - fantastic!!!

justwanttoknow21 · 01/02/2021 13:10

@MoneySuperMeerkat oh cool ! Where are you?

"What actually is a carer?
My sister has a child who is vulnerable (autism and mental health) she cares for her obviously unpaid. Does she qualify for a vaccine under group 6 as a cater?"

She should qualify as an unpaid carer but I think it will not be straightforward to sort out exactly who qualifies. Those who get carers allowance definitely should but there will be others as well. There are estimated to be about 6 million unpaid carers in the UK so it is a lot.

Peppafrig · 01/02/2021 13:13

I think they are using carers allowance for the unpaid carers list

Delatron · 01/02/2021 13:14

I’m wondering if they were still diverting vaccines to areas that are behind?
My friend is vaccinating people today and her shift has been cut short due to lack of vaccines. We’re on the over 70s. Still seems some areas are way ahead. I’m pleased about how quickly they are going though.

MoneySuperMeerkat · 01/02/2021 13:14

Sorry @justwanttoknow21 I did mean to specify - I am in Buckinghamshire.

To pp who asked I am carer to a disabled child, she isn't CEV and I'm flagged on the GPs system as a carer.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 01/02/2021 13:14

Will the doctors know who gets carers allowance?

Underhisi · 01/02/2021 13:16

Mine said they do not keep a list of carers.

MoneySuperMeerkat · 01/02/2021 13:16

@TryingNotToPanicOverCovid

Will the doctors know who gets carers allowance?
Not automatically, you have to inform them. I do get it but DH doesn't and he is also flagged as a carer on the GP system (and he also got a text today to book his jab)
Peppafrig · 01/02/2021 13:17

@TryingNotToPanicOverCovid

I guess they can get a list of who receives it . There is always reminders up in my GP office to say to let them know if you are carer so they can get you the flu jab and offer support.
TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 01/02/2021 13:19

I know about being registered as a carer with the gp. You dont need to receive carers allowance to do this.

My point is that the govt has said those on carers allowance will be entitled. But they havent told those on CA to register with the gp. No public campaign etc - more wait your turn to be called. Normally theyre quite hot on not sharing information (esp since gdpr) so I wondered if anyone knew how officially this was happening.

justwanttoknow21 · 01/02/2021 13:20

@MoneySuperMeerkat great ! Good for you. I hope you don't get nasty side effects etc. Happy you got it !! I wonder when I'll get it ! London!

Underhisi · 01/02/2021 13:22

Carers only get the flu jab at my surgery if you ask for it and the receptionists ate always arsey about it so usually I go to the chemist instead and pay.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 01/02/2021 13:24

Has anyone tried the direct booking link just to see whether they're allowed to book yet?

I started doing it and chickened out because I thought it mite flag something or that even if it didn't work it mite somehow delay me getting contacted...

Paranoid, moi?! GrinBlush

Underhisi · 01/02/2021 13:26

The government is supposed to be publishing information soon about how unpaid carers will access the vaccine. It was mentioned on the information for social care workers.

orangenasturtium · 01/02/2021 13:55

Wow at all these regions so far ahead. DM (group 2) just had hers a few days ago and that was a last minute cancellation booking. She wasn't supposed to have it until mid February.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 01/02/2021 14:03

My mum is getting hers in a week and is ecv so i I think were not ahead!

gurglebelly · 01/02/2021 14:06

Ours still seem to be on over 80s

PuzzledObserver · 01/02/2021 14:09

In my area (Warwickshire) they are doing groups 3 and 4 at the moment. BUT I heard from a friend who is ECV that some friends of hers who are group 6 (in their 50’s and on the flu jab list) had been invited by their GP and had their jab a couple of days ago.

I’m in the same category, but I haven’t been invited - boo! It’s a couple of towns over, though, so presumably a different co-ordinating team. Or maybe they just haven’t reached me yet - as has been pointed out, group 6 is a lot of people.

The NHS booking website is still only showing groups 1-4.

gurglebelly · 01/02/2021 14:09

And we are in Bucks too! It seems that even in the same county there is no consistency

Gonegrey31 · 01/02/2021 14:17

I know of several people in Bucks in group 5 (65 - 69), no special other reason for inclusion, who were called over the weekend for jabs.

MiraWard1 · 01/02/2021 15:04

@gurglebelly

It seems to me to be very local areas, with some being super efficient and others not so much. I expect there's a whole lot of geographic/socio-economic factors.
Boulshired · 01/02/2021 15:12

Logistically it makes sense to fill ad hoc spaces with those whose letters are not in the system. There is less chance of a double booking and having to continually fill the spaces and dealing with phone calls from people receiving letters after jabs. Being called as group 5 and 6 is not necessarily an indication that is what stage your area is upto.
