Forcing vaccination

Peaceiseveryrhing · 31/01/2021 20:39

Just read this on the Beeb

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-55718553

Personally, I think it's outrageous that employees may insist on vaccination and airlines preventing travel.

A communistic approach! Angry

Remember travelling in the 90s certain countries you couldn’t get in without a yellow fever certificate saying you had had a jab. If you wanted to go there that was what you had to do this is no different. Of course you can decline but some places will then be off limits to you. But individuals choice.

WalrusWife · 31/01/2021 21:48

I’m surprised nobody has screamed at me for not having the vaccine when pregnant or breastfeeding. Not that I’ve been offered it, I’m not in a priority group.

SoupDragon · 31/01/2021 21:48

Hand on heart, can you tell me that there'll be no long term side effects?

Hand on heart I can tell you there will be long term effects from not having it. Not just for the refusers though.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 31/01/2021 21:48

@LaurieFairyCake

Totally fine for people to suffer the natural consequences of not having it

People who can't have it - tough 🤷‍♀️ - there are many things I can't do

Nah. People who genuinely cannot have it for serious medical reasons, should be absolutely excused like everywhere else. I would assume UK would look to countries where vaccinations are mandatory to see medical exempts so it's not half a country again.
WalrusWife · 31/01/2021 21:48

What makes you think we won’t still be wearing masks and social distancing after being vaccinated?

Pandapotato · 31/01/2021 21:48

@Peaceiseveryrhing did you really start this thread and then call other people provocative & uneducated? 🤣
I needed a laugh tonight, thank you!

preferteatocoffee · 31/01/2021 21:48

No other vaccine in the history of mankind has been rushed out the door without long term testing

Swine flu pandemic of 2009? Vaccine widely available November of the same year. Similar timeframe.

The Pfizer & Moderna vaccine does use a new technology (mRNA) and are the 1st mRNA vaccines to be licensed for use. But clinical trials for other diseases have been in process since 2011. The AZ vaccine uses a more traditional technology and one which has been licensed before for previous vaccines.

Doingitaloneandproud · 31/01/2021 21:49

If you cannot have the vaccine for a valid medical reason then they won't force you too.
However if you chose not to when you can, and private companies/places refuse you, it's a consequence. You have the right to refuse and so do they.
This vaccine has been rushed but it also has been tested in most labs around the country, day and night. Normal vaccines are not tested that much, that quickly. The time scale is different yes, but there's a lot more people working on it than would usually.

cardibach · 31/01/2021 21:49

@WalrusWife

We will still be under lockdown, vaccine or no vaccine.
Why would you think that?
tilder · 31/01/2021 21:49

GrinGrinGrin at the op calling other posters liars, uneducated and provocative.

It's all hypothetical anyway. We're way off full vaccination yet. Don't expect to have mine for ages.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 31/01/2021 21:51

@WalrusWife

I’m surprised nobody has screamed at me for not having the vaccine when pregnant or breastfeeding. Not that I’ve been offered it, I’m not in a priority group.
Why would they? It's understandable. As far as I know there are at least 2 vaccines not advised for pregnant or breastfeeding. This one could well be that and you could get it when you stop breastfeeding.
Peaceiseveryrhing · 31/01/2021 21:51

@WhenISnappedAndFarted

It's not been 'rushed through' but it has been rushed. People have been taken off other projects and focused onto this vaccine, my DB being one of them.

The reason it takes so long is because of funding and paperwork, that is what's been rushed through. It's been tested as it would normally be tested.

Utter tripe.

Elements of the development have been accelerated with greater resources, both monetary and staffing.

However, YOU CAN'T buy or bend time - u less you are a Star Trek believer 🙈

@WalrusWife

The fact it would be utterly pointless and no government would ask it. Our current govern,ent is libertarian to the point of negligence. There’s no way on Earth they enforce something once the NHS is able to cope. That’s what the vaccine is for to make it safe to open up without crashing the health service.
XenoBitch · 31/01/2021 21:52

Needing the vaccine as a requirement to enter other countries... fair enough. This is nothing new. But to do everyday things in your own country? Just no. I can't believe the people who are happy to see unvaccinated people be denied entry to shops, cinemas etc. It is sinister as hell. If this is the going to be the future then I am done.

nevernotstruggling · 31/01/2021 21:52

@SnackSizeRaisin

I look forward to being able to pick services etc where everyone will be vaccinated. Me too. It will mean no need for face masks etc. Why should we all carry on with these tedious restrictions just because of a few loonies who would rather put themselves and others at risk from a preventable disease?
Me too - this will be amazing!!!
WalrusWife · 31/01/2021 21:53

Won’t be any airlines left in business for foreign holidays. Glad I’ve already seen the world!

Gobbycop · 31/01/2021 21:53

@Trisolaris

Completely different arguement.

The equivalent would be everyone adhering to the same conditions as you incase they had diabetes.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 31/01/2021 21:54

@Peaceiseveryrhing that's literally what I said.

Anyway, like you accused the other poster of being - I am uneducated. However, my DB isn't and studied for years and years and has worked in the field for years. I fully trust him and will be having the vaccine.

If you don't want to, fine.

hm246 · 31/01/2021 21:54

I just can’t see how this government will be able to implement this...... couldn’t of set up a working track and trace app can’t see how they will set up a working vaccine passport one

SnackSizeRaisin · 31/01/2021 21:54

Hand on heart, can you tell me that there'll be no long term side effects? If you can, you're a liar (in addition to being provocative and uneducated)

Long term side effects from vaccines are vanishingly rare. Long term side effects from covid are common. Long term side effects of lockdown are also very common. It's a choice between vaccine or catch covid at some point or stay locked down forever. It's not a choice between vaccine and covid goes away on its own

Peaceiseveryrhing · 31/01/2021 21:54

@SoupDragon

Sorry - you traded your time machine in for a crystal ball 🙈

WhenISnappedAndFarted is correct.
for instance, while the trials were going on, the government invested in production and supply. Normally this would be done after the vaccine trials are published and peer reviewed. This alone sped up the process by months.
I'm fairly sure that some of the scientific bits were also done simultaneously with the scientific belief (which is different to proof, but fairly sure) that this vaccine would work.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 31/01/2021 21:55

@WalrusWife

Yeah. ☹️ I worry about that too. Well, that the affordable ones will go. I remember a mate flying with Ryanair to Poland for a pound in 2010😂 What a time to be alive that was. And I couldn't afford to travel! Now I can, I get my holidays cancelled🙄
HibernatingTill2030 · 31/01/2021 21:56

This isn't going to happen, though, is it? They can't even enforce people wearing masks in shops. There is no way they are going to bother asking every customer if they are vaccinated.
SnackSizeRaisin · 31/01/2021 21:56

Because what would be the point?
