Where's my thread gone?

I posted last night about how the vaccine centre I went to yesterday was not well ventilated, tea and coffee given in the waiting area after etc... Sharing of pens.

The thread was going ok, no rudeness or arguments on the thread, just people giving sensible comment. Some with similar experiences, some with better experiences.

Then this morning a thread pops up about 'beware the anti vaxers', dissing my thread and calling it fake.

Now my thread has gone???

Why are we only allowed to give one side of the story on Mumsnet? This is shocking. My post wasnt offensive or anything. All true. How are posters meant tom prove they r genuine?

"I donated blood recently and there were still refreshments. I didn't avail of them, I never do, no one forces you to.... They are there for in case someone feels a bit wobbly. I would imagine it is the same principle."

Can't be the same principle. Giving blood can make you wobbly in a way that a vaccine shouldn't. You've just lost a pint of blood in the first example.
Also, I would have thought that vulnerable people would not be giving blood at the moment.

SeasonFinale · 19/01/2021 12:49

If you are unwell today why are you going to work?

Etinox · 19/01/2021 12:50

Your post was very detailed and reasonable.

candycane222 · 19/01/2021 12:54

Very sorry than Mumsnet deleted the previous thread - seems like an overreaction and as pps have said, they could have changed the title to 'concernd about my local vaccination centre' or something. Feiw i have been hugely worried about exactly this for my mum,it will be far and away the most dangerous thing she'll ha ve done since march. I have howevet sent het some ffp2 masks from Lloyds that she days fit well, and urged he to turn around/leave at any time if she feels unsafe.

Luckily its quite a small operations in a fairly large sports hall from what i can tell. But some of the images of other centres really don't look as dafe as they could be in terms of people numbers vs space. There was an article in the Independent the other day about very long waits in a hospital corridor with people chatting away, not enough chairs etc. Not good, and not necessary imo. Take another 3 or 4 days and find somewhere more suitable.

@SeasonFinale

If you are unwell today why are you going to work?
She said she was not going to work today, didn't she?
Sparklingbrook · 19/01/2021 12:59

@GwendolineMarysLaces IIRC it was 'lunging at my testicles'. Hmm

PinkTonic · 19/01/2021 13:01

@CovidJabToday

MilesJupp - I'm so sorry if you were frightened and sorry for your difficult circumstances.

I was worried though for vulnerable people, when I experienced the vaccine centre yesterday, so I guess my assumption was that if people are vulnerable they'd rather be prepared that some centres might not be using best practice, and that they could this be prepared to take their own pen, water and wear a good quality mask. I'll share my experience with elderly mum soon, not to scare her, but to help her stay safe when she visits a centre for her vaccine soon. She's done so well to shield all this time, I'd hate for her good work to be undone by visiting an unsafe vaccine centre.

You are still coming over a bit wide eyed ingenue tbh and I note that in addition you have managed to mention that you’re off work feeling unwell today.

MN confirmed why they deleted and that you are a new user. This is a TAAT and therefore breaks talk guidelines. @MNHQ

Bluegrass · 19/01/2021 13:05

What are people more worried about:

Disinformation being posted online with the intention of sowing fear, doubt and discord during a global pandemic, potentially with the result that lives (perhaps many lives) are lost; or

Some genuine threads being deleted as part of a process of trying to remove the disinformation threads?

I think if you make a stand against disinformation then deleting genuine threads is inevitable, there is no perfect score. Of course you get accused of being a repressive nazi though (as one poster has already done on this thread with their reference to wartime Germany!).

The alternative is to do nothing against the disinformation threads, but the site becomes swamped with them, everyone and her mother is claiming to be a doctor or a nurse, or they are posting those wide eyed innocent threads that begin “I’m not anti vaccine at all but...(insert some dubious story that is apparently leading to second thoughts, and “is anyone else a bit worried now?”).

There are no easy answers. This is the price we pay for being so connected and accessible to everyone, no matter what their motivations.

titchy · 19/01/2021 13:05
@GwendolineMarysLaces IIRC it was 'lunging at my testicles'. Hmm
A 'Prole' lunging no less...

Sparklingbrook · 19/01/2021 13:07

That was it @titchy

sausagerole · 19/01/2021 13:12

MNHQ, couldn't you have edited the title though? Why delete the thread if the title was the main problem?

There are NHS professionals on Twitter showing videos of their vaccination spaces (in an attempt to encourage people to visit and inspire public confidence, I believe) and credible scientists are raising questions about social distancing, ventilation etc. It is not irresponsible to raise genuine concerns about whether best practice is being adhered to, especially is it causes others to think carefully about how they might best keep themselves and others safe when they do so.

Careful moderation could have done alot of good here.

CovidJabToday · 19/01/2021 13:14

Pinktonic - what's a TAAT and what have I done wrong now?

I am genuine so how am I meant to convince you of that?

OP posts:
lesnittinsel · 19/01/2021 13:14

I don't think MNHQ are being Nazis, I just think this wasn't a good call. An ordinary, everyday, bad decision.

lesnittinsel · 19/01/2021 13:14

Cock up, not conspiracy, if you like.

BIWI · 19/01/2021 13:17

TAAT = thread about a thread; usually banned by MNHQ. In this case, clearly being allowed to stand - so no-one is being censored Hmm

CovidJabToday · 19/01/2021 13:18

Thanks BIWI

You post a new thread using the name CovidJabToday.

Then you write a post about how your experience of getting the jab was dangerous.

You then reply to of posters encouraging them to slag off their vaccination centres.

Photos of vaccination centres put up and slagged off about social distancing. When the angle of at least one photo is done in such a way it makes the people look closer together than they obviously are.

I can not imagine why anyone wouldn't think your thread was made out of genuine concern. That really confuses me Hmm

TonMoulin · 19/01/2021 13:18

@HopeMumsnet

Hi there, Just to clarify our thinking on that thread. It was reported several times by posters who pointed out that the title was scaremongering and inflammatory (and when we looked, we did agree that it was) and as such was unlikely to have been posted by anyone who worked in the NHS. So it had to go. The 'Fake News' referred to the subject line, which was "Vaccine Centres Are Hot Houses To Spread Covid" (which of course they are not) rather than the version of events as set out in the opening post. We are, it goes without saying, sorry if we made the wrong call but unfortunately we can't give the benefit of the doubt to recent members in the way that we might if we can see a longer posting history. We hope you understand where we are coming from now.
@HopeMumsnet,

I didn’t know that you had to be part of the NHS to be allowed to post on what’s going on inside a hospital or vaccination centre.
As if no one else ever goes there Hmm

And tbh the description that the OP gives of the place isn’t good at alll. On an infection pov, they are doing exactly all the things I, as a business owner, have been told NOT to do since March...

I think it’s extremely bad form to stop that information going out. It’s not as if we can rely on the press to highlight that.

IF no one else had experienced that, the poster had a history of scaremonging et... then you could have a point.. But that doesn’t seem to be the case?

Lovemusic33 · 19/01/2021 13:19

I believe you OP, there was someone on the radio yesterday that said they were offered a chocolate biscuit after their vaccine.

Notverygrownup · 19/01/2021 13:20

Total derail. Can I ask why you need a pen? (Dad with dementia going for his jab on Friday, taken by a carer. ) She clearly can't sign anything legally on his behalf - so just wondering . . .

trulydelicious · 19/01/2021 13:21

@BIWI

MNHQ, like other social media platforms, have a duty to take down anti-vaxx stuff

And who decides what is anti-vax propaganda or rather critical thinking and genuine concerns? You?

OnlyTeaForMe · 19/01/2021 13:23

I have noticed MNHQ becoming quite heavy handed with thread deletions recently

I've noticed this too.

I contributed some professional knowledge and insight into a recent thread about why certain groups were reluctant to have the vaccine and I was accused of making it up. That thread disappeared too, which is a shame, as I thought there was some really useful information which might have made people understand some of the issues better.

Strangely the same issue was reported in the BBC website a few days later, with many of the same issues being discussed.

I get the impression it only takes one complain for trigger-happy MN moderators to delete a thread. Why not just remove offending posts?

Problem is, it just makes you not bother contributing.

CovidJabToday · 19/01/2021 13:23

Pen - We had to complete a brief tick box questionnaire re medical history and sign it. I'd advise the carer/your dad take own pen! (And your own biscuit/water etc.. if you think it'll b needed) Carer will need to know about your dad's allergies, history of blood disorders etc... If she is going to fill it in on his behalf.

OP posts:
trulydelicious · 19/01/2021 13:24

@BIWI

posting as she did only serves to exacerbate any concerns about the vaccine and the vaccine process

Genuine concerns will still be there, it's not possible to steer people's thinking in this way

diddl · 19/01/2021 13:25

Fake News-Op was expressing her opinion of her experience wasn't she?

Not posting it as "news"?
