Where's my thread gone?

CovidJabToday · 19/01/2021 10:31

I posted last night about how the vaccine centre I went to yesterday was not well ventilated, tea and coffee given in the waiting area after etc... Sharing of pens.

The thread was going ok, no rudeness or arguments on the thread, just people giving sensible comment. Some with similar experiences, some with better experiences.

Then this morning a thread pops up about 'beware the anti vaxers', dissing my thread and calling it fake.

Now my thread has gone???

Why are we only allowed to give one side of the story on Mumsnet? This is shocking. My post wasnt offensive or anything. All true. How are posters meant tom prove they r genuine?

If you’re an nhs employee you’ve also probably broken your employer’s social media policy by naming the hospital. Hope you’re not identifiable in real life. It could be gross misconduct.

EuropeanRoller · 19/01/2021 13:27

@OhBabooahka

You actually expect us to believe they were serving refreshments at a vaccine centre?
I have volunteered to help at vaccine centres, haven't started yet but have been told my duties will include making cups of tea for people getting vaccinated.
triceratops12 · 19/01/2021 13:28

To be fair I've been to a vaccination centre and I noted that there were refreshments being served and everyone taking their masks off to have these.

MakeWorkYourNewFavourite · 19/01/2021 13:29

What was the point of your thread? Just more fucking moaning and scaring people? You've been vaccinated. Go home for three weeks until your next jab and keep out of people's way.

Keep going for your vaccines, everyone.
We'll all get a turn.
That's about it.
The NHS is doing its best.

Ozzie9523 · 19/01/2021 13:31

It wasn’t a scaremongering thread, it’s giving people information. I’ve already text my parents earlier to warn them to take their own pen when they go on Friday and not to have refreshments if there are any. For me it was valuable information.

Can you just IMAGINE the headlines though if, in a few weeks time, it emerges that lots of elderly people are getting the virus in the two week period after their vaccination? It doesn't bear thinking about.
CovidJabToday · 19/01/2021 13:35

MakeWorkYourNewFavourite - the point of the thread was to express my surprise at how little measures were taken to keep people safe from catching the virus at the covid vaccine centre, and to see if others had experienced similar things where they had their vaccines. I was surprised more care wasn't taken to protect people from catching covid when going for a vaccine and thought it would be good to discuss this to get other people's views.

Because of my experience yesterday, I'll be telling my vulnerable relative to take their own drink and pen and wear a very good face mask when they go for their jab. I'll also probably advise them to call the centre before they go to explain they are ECV and ask what precautions are being taken to keep her safe.

I agree - really useful thread, which has helped me to prepare/protect my dad. Good to know about different experiences.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 19/01/2021 13:47

@Notverygrownup

Total derail. Can I ask why you need a pen? (Dad with dementia going for his jab on Friday, taken by a carer. ) She clearly can't sign anything legally on his behalf - so just wondering . . .
Do you have a health and welfare LPA? If yes, maybe ask the care home if you have to email consent. If not, the Dr/Nurse administering the vaccine can decide to give it ‘in his best interests’ in the absence of an LPA.
justasking111 · 19/01/2021 13:48

I am in Wales at our hospitals WRVS hand out tea and biscuits, I have donated blood where this was also done. Bit confused as to why thread was deleted to be honest. Different health authorities take different approaches.

justasking111 · 19/01/2021 13:50

I saw a consultant last week, had to fill in and sign a form, never thought about the pen and paper I was signing would be a covid risk. eek...

Notverygrownup · 19/01/2021 13:50

Two more quick questions. Can you remember any of the other medical questions asked?

Does anyone know if those being vaccinated at a GPS still have to wait for 15/20 minutes afterwards in case of a reaction?

Thank youuu

Notverygrownup · 19/01/2021 13:51

@Judas Yes to Health and Welfare EPA. Private carer, not a care home, so I will ring the GPs. Thanks

Tal45 · 19/01/2021 13:56

I used to be on netmums, I came here after I got accused by the mods of fake news twice. Firstly because i said about the side affects of the Yellow Fever vaccine which in rare instances can be very severe (I was saying I'd actually had that jab it so it wasn't in any way antivax). Then also I brought up the narcolepsy issues with the swine flu jab, again not anything that isn't true - it's not given to under 19's any more according to the NHS website I saw and damages have been won according to the UK narcolepsy website.

So I came here thinking it would be different but maybe not.

trulydelicious · 19/01/2021 14:04

@Robbybobtail

It seems anyone who voices any concerns at all with the vaccine or the administering of it is just wiped off

I agree with your post. And it's not just vaccines, it's in relation to all kinds of topics. Anything that deviates from the 'accepted rethoric' is censored or 'cancelled' (and I'm thinking of most SM here, not MN specifically)

Thankfully, ideas can't be killed. The (large number of) people who have alternative views will just move to different platforms to hold informative discussions rather than remaining in echo-chambers full of intolerant fanatics

DS had that yellow fever vaccine as did all colleagues who had to work somewhere, think oil industry, they were warned of side effects at the time, so I did keep a close eye on him.

Years ago a friend was going to India on business urgently so went to Liverpool where they banged in all the jabs. Boy he was ill, the side effect was that he lost all the hair on his legs and arms, decades later he is still hairless. Now if they could only replicate that for women.

saraclara · 19/01/2021 14:07

The Bedford hospital vaccination centre is for staff as well as others. If staff are getting their jabs there in their break (as my nurse family member did) then I imagine that the tea facilities are there because they'd otherwise miss the chance to get a drink in their break.

Staffy1 · 19/01/2021 14:16

I can believe it. I was surprised at A&E a couple of months ago to be sent to a tiny waiting room with no ventilation after seeing one person and being referred to another. There was a sign up saying "no more than 6 people to wait in this room". It ended up with 8 of us. Then a woman came round offering tea and sandwiches, which I thought was strange, especially as they were free, but this did happen. Just thought it was a stupid idea to have people munching sandwiches in a tiny room when we're supposed to be distancing and wearing masks.

Yes they do at our GP covid clinic.

I'm on Netmums. It's not much different to here.

LizFlowers · 19/01/2021 14:41

You didn't catch Covid though, did you?

Sandwiches and biscuits are OK if they are served in unopened packages. Tea is made with boiling water and presumably the cups are disposable.

I do get your concern about eight people in the room at one time. I can only suppose the department was fully stretched.

If you were posting factual, proven stuff then that's fine and wouldn't (shouldn't!) be deleted.

The issue here is about misinformation and scaremongering, which is very different.

candycane222 · 19/01/2021 14:49

Tea and biscuits aren't much use without a mask...which presumably all other indoor catering is now closed

AlwaysLatte · 19/01/2021 14:51

Tbh although I was one of the ones that commented (to say that my mum's centre was excellent with distancing/organisation) a little niggle at the back of my mind worried in case anyone already nervous about going for their jab might read your post and be put off. I don't think your experience was typical from the people I know irl who've had it. So maybe it was deleted from that point of view.

The sandwiches were packaged. The lady who took one had to open the wrapping. Eating them involves removing the mask and probably ejecting more air than sitting there with mouth closed (or mask on).
