@tobee - great photo!

SpnBaby1967 · 12/01/2021 19:21

I so need this thread, I am losing the will to live at the moment.

Just waiting for my town to go down (well, rather the town next to me that we get grouped with) as our numbers have climbed like mad since november lockdown.

MadisonAvenue · 12/01/2021 19:28

@MarcelineMissouri

My in laws are 75 and 76 and have now had their first dose! (West Midlands)
We’re on the South Staffs/West Midlands border and my 87 year old Dad now has an appointment for his first jab on Saturday, my 85 year old Mom still hasn’t heard anything.
NothingIsWrong · 12/01/2021 19:38

I looked at the numbers for my county today and 4/5 of the districts are showing a fall. It's made me almost well up.

TheChineseChicken · 12/01/2021 19:45

I wonder why they don’t try to vaccinate all eligible people within a household at the same time to minimise trips - surely wouldn’t be too hard from an admin perspective?

Because they're prioritising mortality rates (along with health/care staff). Vaccinating younger nonvulnerable people won't do anything to reduce this.
feelingverylazytoday · 12/01/2021 19:57

Sorry chinesechicken just reread your post. I see your point, could be a good idea.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/01/2021 20:00

Cornwall still heading upwards...Newquay has rates like London now! Eeek.

Sorry...that wasn't good news was it. Unless you think about herd immunity.

@SandysMam

Place marking as feel very low at the moment BUT I am CV bordering on CEV and had Covid a month ago and got over it quickly without medical help so I guess that in itself is good news! Thanks for this thread xx

That is good news @SandysMam . Obviously good news for you but also helpful for others who have anxiety over Covid .

TheChineseChicken · 12/01/2021 20:12

I guess any admin is too much - easier to keep things as simple as possible
DobbyTheHouseElk · 12/01/2021 20:15

Accidentally fell into another thread. My mental health can’t cope with those threads....it’s never going to be back to normal ever......

Phew. Back here to sanity.

shinynewapple2021 · 12/01/2021 20:17

@littleowl1 do I understand that you actually put together the data on Covid Messenger? Thats amazing; I've been checking on there daily, probably from a link you out on MN but I didn't realise it was actually your website . Thank you .
And yes there is some positivity today seeing more areas go 'green'.

Inastatus · 12/01/2021 20:37

@DobbyTheHouseElk - yes, I was on that thread too. I keep promising myself not to get drawn in but can’t help clicking! I called the ‘it’s never going to be back to normal’ poster a doom muppet - credit to whoever it was on here who coined the phrase 😅

TheChineseChicken · 12/01/2021 20:43

Oh god, me too... aaaaaaahhhhhhh

TheChineseChicken · 12/01/2021 20:44

These two posts were particularly awful

I was on that thread early on but made a quick exit when I realised the doom mongers were closing in!

Also couldn’t watch Patel, she makes me want to hit my head against the wall so I decided to miss that one. Why on earth is she in that job. Replace with Cressida !!

OrangeBananaFish · 12/01/2021 21:14

I think I'm reading that thread. Starts off with OP thinking in 2 months we'll be over the worst of lockdown. Now to me that means starting to come out the other end still with restrictions etc, but to everyone else on the thread means the OP is saying in 2 months we will be back to normal. 2. Different. Things. Rant Over.... I know I should say this there, but I really don't want to get in the thread.

Gemma77 · 12/01/2021 21:23

In the past few days Chris Whitty and even Neil Ferguson - both of whom err on the side of caution and have been referred to as doom and gloom - have both said we'll be back to normal by the autumn. If these two are saying we'll be back to normal I think it's very reassuring!

I work with academic scientists and they are fairly positive. They were always certain that with enough government funding they'd get good vaccines (the only corners that were cut are those related to the constant grant bidding and often failing requests for money). They are now fairly positive about virus mutations too. Essentially virus mutation isn't necessary a bad thing... vaccines will still work (think of virus as a face - mutation means say eye colour changes... antibodies still recognise the face!) If (and probably when eventually) virus changes to not look like a face anymore the protein changes would need to be significant enough for antibodies not to recognise it as Coronavirus anymore... which would likely mean it wouldn't be high risk to mortality, which ultimately a virus needs to do to be successful.

Sit tight everyone. Stay safe, protect our loved ones and the NHS for just a few more months and we'll get to the other side of this!

It's ok some people find it a good excuse to have a go at Gordon Ramsay. So you will make them happy Hmm

I saw that when done.

You made me laugh. So think of it as a good deed for the dayGrin

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/01/2021 21:37

My friend came up with a good word today - cheermongering. Hurrah for the cheermongers!

goldpendant · 12/01/2021 21:37

Hi everyone, not caught up for a while, been under the bus of work and homeschool!

What good news today??

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 12/01/2021 21:37

Probably don't want that poster tucking the kids into bed at night.

"Good night darlings. I hope you survive until morning but I think there are so many monsters under your bed I doubt you will"

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 12/01/2021 21:42

I agree if Whitty and Fergusson are saying positive things we are going to be ok.
