@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

I just wanted to share a mildly positive comment from my mum - she went out for a walk the other day and was blown away by how considerate everyone else was about moving to the side of the path, going into single file etc. She said every single person she met on a busy walk was distancing carefully. I just wanted to share this because there is always so much on Mumsnet about people are selfish, blah blah blah.
That is lovely to hearSmile

People are much better at following the rules than certain people care to admit.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/01/2021 18:54

Goodness I can't believe that covidmessager. The change since this morning is fantastic!

The work littleowl has obviously done putting on that new band graph thingy it will just be a green blocky line soon. However I won't be sad to see the red gone. SorryGrin

MarcelineMissouri · 16/01/2021 18:55

I think it’s a really common misconception that some groups of people either elderly or vulnerable are guaranteed to be seriously ill or die. Every you look there are stories from ecv people saying it was fairly mild for them or from people saying their elderly Nan just had a bit of a headache. From the repeated statistic that every 20 jabs in the over 80’s saves a life I’m assuming from that that in fact 19/20 over 80’s do not die from it anyway.

Very important to remember these things when it all feels like it’s pressing down on us. Lots of people are very ill simply because so many people have it - it’s not that the rates of death/serious illness are incredibly high. In addition it is still accepted that as many as 1 in 3 will have no symptoms at all.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/01/2021 18:57

Apparently we'll see another 10 mass vaccination centres over the next week
according to this

www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-england-suffolk-55674612

Does anyone know where they are?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/01/2021 19:00

There was a daily mail headline (sorry). It was saying that people were out and about ignoring Boris telling them to stay hoat the weekend.

Then the article goes on to say the streets of London are empty Confused

Basically they make scandal and worry where they is none.

DareIask · 16/01/2021 19:01

Sky News is reporting that more people have now been vaccinated than have tested positive for the virus

Now that's a good thought.

Brunt0n · 16/01/2021 19:14

This made me a bit emotional. A song about the vaccine!

CornishYarg · 16/01/2021 19:18

So good to see how much green is appearing. I agree with others that it was harder to see the fall in cases in the first lockdown. The testing was ramping up as the lockdown progressed; we went from very limited testing at the start of April to 100k by the end of April (well, capacity for that many, anyway...).

FourTeaFallOut · 16/01/2021 19:20

Ah, hell that's sweet. How gorgeous are those girls? Do you think they could sing in French?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/01/2021 19:21

Fab news on vaccines and testing. Whoop.

DH is getting a weekly test at work from next week.

Pomegranatespompom · 16/01/2021 19:21

@Welikebeingcosy 🤞 crosses for you, that sounds tough.
We’re hoping to holiday in America next year - it’s already been moved twice - so I’m watching closely how things are going.

Crazycatlady83 · 16/01/2021 19:23

They are starting to vaccinate over 70s in our area as well, and a two new hubs are opening soon (in Surrey)

Welikebeingcosy · 16/01/2021 19:37

Thank you @Pomegranatespompom. It has been really tough but also it's ironed out nearly every issue with DD's dad, as the separation is helping me to realise none of the gripes are even worth it compared to missing out on time as a family.
Where in America are you hoping to go? I'm hoping their scratchy start will catch up like ours has too! Why not be super hopeful all over the board eh? :D

Welikebeingcosy · 16/01/2021 19:39

I'm so pleased with how much things have sped up. Really gives us something to feel good about and feel that movement accelerating forwards. Flying our way into lighter days!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/01/2021 19:56

A new vaccination hub is going to open soon in the next town along. It’s going to be massive.

MarcelineMissouri · 16/01/2021 20:12

Can’t read the whole article but I’m sure there will be someone on here with access!

Britain will be able to vaccinate nation against new Covid strains within months after new super-factory opens

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/01/16/britain-will-able-vaccinate-nation-against-new-covid-strains/

Sebw · 16/01/2021 20:13

I haven't looked back so it may have been posted. A YOU GOV poll found that 80% in UK would have the vaccine with 11% undecided. Only 9% would decline. That's amazing if it is accurate when allowed to the population. meanwhile in France and Poland, just about 30 to 35% said they will have it.

Sebw · 16/01/2021 20:14

Applied not allowed Shock

InterfectoremVulpes · 16/01/2021 20:23

4 million done!

Pomegranatespompom · 16/01/2021 20:29

@Welikebeingcosy glad things are smoother. Ta been such a tough one, good to work through to positives.
We’re going to Florida, I’ve flights booked for April and July. I’m hoping for an upward turn so April happens 🤞 I’ve just been looking at U.K. breaks - there’s still availability fir coastal breaks April/May. But I want to be say by the pool drinking my morning coffee in Florida.
Sorry totally off thread plus I was all about the daffodils earlier 😳

Pomegranatespompom · 16/01/2021 20:30

Sorry re typos!

4 million is just fantastic.

Welikebeingcosy · 16/01/2021 20:35

@Pomegranatespompom we are hoping to be in Florida too! We will get there I'm sure- might even see you over there. Awww I saw the daffodil comment it really cheered me up and gave me some ideas for some walks- as my brain keeps forgetting what the options are! Daffodils AND poolside Florida sounds like what we can get super excited for!

4 million wow oh wow oh wow that's amazing!

tobee · 16/01/2021 20:36

I was just imagining a "stuff you are doing to cheer you during lockdown" thread. Starting off nicely and then posters coming on to say "you're not supposed to be cheered in lockdown, sorry. There's a pandemic on! People are dying! Stay the fuck home!"

Thank god for this (🤞) misery free zone. Smile

Pomegranatespompom · 16/01/2021 20:41

@Welikebeingcosy you’ve really cheered me up - thank you !
Let’s keep tracking progress and being hopeful. We will be in the Florida sunshine, drinking margaritas this year 🤞 (and eating key lime pie).
