@FuzzyPuffling

Bugger...cases up again here. There's been several care home infections though, so it may be that that is fuelling it.
Yes and I get the impression they then can't vaccinate those homes until the infections are done.

Hopefully they will get into the rest quickly.

Amazonmulu · 16/01/2021 16:34

That's such good news about the rate of vaccination!

If they maintain that pace how soon can the whole nation be vaccinated (twice)?

🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/01/2021 16:35

@BigWoollyJumpers

Also, has anyone noticed how many tests we are now doing..... after so much bitching about lack of testing, it has gone very quiet..... almost 700,000 tests done yesterday!!!
Actually I didn't notice that.

Probably because the media and the doomsters aren't shouting about that.

It is very good isn't itSmile

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/01/2021 16:38

@alreadytaken

Another 324,711 vaccinations given over the past 24 hours. A total of 3,514,385.
Yay
Frazzled2207 · 16/01/2021 16:39

It is good and in part our numbers of cases are high in the UK because now we are doing so much testing.

Cases are now definitely coming down in all regions and devolved nations. Still pockets of places where cases are going up but if you look at the charts of the regions as a whole, ALL are coming down. NW is only just, everywhere else is by quite a bit Biggest falls in London and South East. 7 day weekly total is down by 18%.

midgebabe · 16/01/2021 16:41

I think that we can see the benefit of this lockdown much more quickly than the first because of the better testing.

TJ17 · 16/01/2021 16:47

@BigWoollyJumpers if it's any source of comfort my friends grandad is 96 in a care home and he is recovering well from Covid.

My Nan 86 is currently in hospital with it (passed on from carers) and she's on a ward (not ICU) and she's doing ok 🙏🏼

I was surprised at both of these things as I automatically assume for the elderly it's a guaranteed death sentence so it's nice to know thats not the case for everyone.

It gives hope!

Hope your DM will be ok Thanks

InterfectoremVulpes · 16/01/2021 17:13

Essex has gone medium purple on the map 👍

In fact there's far fewer dark purple areas now

PamelaPeaches · 16/01/2021 17:23

I am loving this thread! Could we please please please keep it to happy positive news only

Wherediditgo · 16/01/2021 17:25

If they carry on at this rate. I reckon close to 6,000,000 could have received their first dose by this time next week.

Which is roughly the number in the first two priority groups. This accounts for 68% of deaths so far.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/01/2021 17:26

I just wanted to share a mildly positive comment from my mum - she went out for a walk the other day and was blown away by how considerate everyone else was about moving to the side of the path, going into single file etc. She said every single person she met on a busy walk was distancing carefully.
I just wanted to share this because there is always so much on Mumsnet about people are selfish, blah blah blah.

Chickenandegg8 · 16/01/2021 17:30

My dad had a call from his gp this morning inviting him for his vaccination on Tuesday. He’s 76 so I thought it’s great that they’re starting to move down the ages! My mum can get hers at the same time even though she’s 72.
Hopefully they’ll fly through the priority groups!

And while Clacton's numbers are still much higher than the rest of the district, Tendring (only council that was rising) has dropped for second day in a row, with a 20% drop on last week. Clacton's numbers o seem to be stabilising now but are still over 3x other parts of the district, such as Manningtree (2000/100000 in central Clacton against 560 in manningtree), which is obviously skewing Tendring's numbers as a whole.

*Tendring as a whole is a very diverse district covering the area of a medium city. We have 2 towns, Clacton (parts of which are very deprived) and Harwich (international port), we also have the most deprived ward in the country and lots of villages and farmland.

Whatever9999 · 16/01/2021 17:47

Sorry there are 2 main towns, there's also Manningtree, Frinton and Walton

tobee · 16/01/2021 18:01

It really isn't a guaranteed death sentence for the elderly! It's not even a majority from what I can see.

Also, as to there being restrictions on travel for ages, there's always been areas of the world the foreign office strongly advises against travelling to. For reasons of war, political situation and disease. Areas that have outbreaks of, say, West Nile Fever or are currently have a civil war, or limited consular support. In non Covid times it's a fascinating read. Smile I think EU countries will be doing fine reasonably soon!

FourTeaFallOut · 16/01/2021 18:03

Covid messenger showing 271 falling areas/42 rising areas. It was only 200 falling this morning. Loving the new tool @littleowl1 Grin

littleowl1 · 16/01/2021 18:09

Well I surely wasn't expecting such a big jump in the number of councils with falling cases week-over-week!

See how green the table on www.covidmessenger.com is after today's data release!

Councils with falling cases: 271 (out of 315)!!!!!

271!!

I thought we were doing amazingly well yesterday with 200 councils with falling cases!

Only 42 councils with rising cases! A few weeks ago the whole table was red!!!

Whoop whoop! We are getting there! We can do it!

MarshaBradyo · 16/01/2021 18:12

So so good LittleOwl

Feels like it’s happening more quickly than last full lockdown but maybe we have more data to see it

Good to see though!

Thank you for this positive thread which is helping me keep my own positivity up and mindset in check.
DH unfortunately tends to dwell on the negative and that's not me. I won't join him in the negativity about what this country is not doing compared to New Zealand, Australia and South Korea which are not even like for like comparisons! If I'm not careful I will get myself down listening to him Confused

littleowl1 · 16/01/2021 18:30

You beat me to it @FourTeaFallOut !!

So pleased for this thread for cheering me up! I'm desperately waiting a visa appointment at the USA embassy so I can take DD to see her American father and I'm really hoping we will get out there by spring. We are on the exemption list for travel into the states as she is an american citizen by birth but just waiting for that embassy to reopen or offer us an emergency interview!

FourTeaFallOut · 16/01/2021 18:37

My dh is a kiwi, you can imagine how many conversations we've had with his family about how well they are doing. I think I'm in the running for a sainthood at this point - can atheists apply?

Flev · 16/01/2021 18:39

As far as care homes go - yes, that's right, we can't have vaccinators in when we have an outbreak. So it's a bit frustrating that it took longer than hoped to get going as now more of our homes have outbreaks...but we now have about a quarter of our homes where all the staff and residents have had their first vaccine, so it is getting there!
