Farmerswifey2 - does this cover what you need? coronavirus.data.gov.uk/ I use the postcode box (scroll down a bit) - brings up my very local area.

Frazzled2207 · 16/01/2021 10:44

An article explaining why we are doing so well.
I don’t necessarily agree with all of it but still an interesting read

carolinesbaby · 16/01/2021 11:15

Mistakenly read a thread on one of the other boards where people are saying that we will have to have restrictions until the entire world is vaccinated not just the U.K. Confused tell me this isn't true, I was so enjoying watching our vaccination figures increasing day by day!

Frazzled2207 · 16/01/2021 11:33

@Reachersloveinterest
I think things will return to some kind of day to day normality here second half of this year but I think there will be some kind of restrictions in place eg big events, travel, for ages to come. That said with media suggesting most of the adult pop in uk could be vaccinated by july, it puts us Brits in a very good position

carolinesbaby · 16/01/2021 11:38

The idea of travel restrictions is worrying. My only family live in an EU country. Will I ever see them again?

farmerswifey2 · 16/01/2021 11:38

Thanks @thatgingergirl - that will do nicely!
And great news too - Here in sleepy mid-Wales, new positive cases are down 20.5% on last week!

Pomegranatespompom · 16/01/2021 11:39

@Frazzled2207 I hope we can have summer holidays - the hope is helping me to plod on.
I’ll never postpone a holiday again !

Whatever9999 · 16/01/2021 12:52

According to the gov dashboard, Tendring (the only area of Essex that was still rising) is actually starting to drop, with a 10% fall over the last 7 days. Hopefully that'll continue, that part I'm in has been slowly dropping for a week, but the numbers in Clacton were still rising.

thatgingergirl · 16/01/2021 14:10

Farmerswifey2 - glad it's going in the right direction in your area. Mine too. This coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/cases has larger area 7 day case numbers (scroll down), and is whole UK. The 3 LAs I check (different family/friends areas - don't know their postcodes off by heart!) have all come down.

FuzzyPuffling · 16/01/2021 14:13

Bugger...cases up again here. There's been several care home infections though, so it may be that that is fuelling it.

Hope that reverses soon FuzzyPuffling.

CC1991 · 16/01/2021 14:59

Sorry if this has already been posted, but the rolling 7-day rates (by specimen date) for the UK as a whole, have just started dropping for the first time since early December.

Also, has anyone noticed how many tests we are now doing..... after so much bitching about lack of testing, it has gone very quiet..... almost 700,000 tests done yesterday!!!

I know this is a good news thread, so sorry for sharing, but DM's care home fully infected with Covid. Many, many deaths. They hadn't had any at all, all year, and then after xmas BANG. So sad.

When things work well it just becomes the background noise, doesn't it? That's a collosal number of tests.
BigWoollyJumpers · 16/01/2021 15:48

More from local area..... DH just went in to town, where we have two big hubs, the Superdrug, which I posted earlier, and the local arts hub. Big signs everywhere, closed except for vaccinations, dedicated one way systems, parking, drop offs, marshalls everywhere. He was really impressed with the logistical planning and running. He said it was absolutely packed.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/01/2021 15:56

That sounds good BigWoollyJumpers. My inner geek loves the organisational discipline of a tight ship.

Sorry to hear about your dm's nursing home. It must be a huge source of worry.

alreadytaken · 16/01/2021 16:01

Another 324,711 vaccinations given over the past 24 hours. A total of 3,514,385.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/01/2021 16:04

Awesome - I love the vaccine updates. That is about 2.25m/week at that rate. Amazing.

They are SMASHING IT 🙌🏻
chri55ie · 16/01/2021 16:14

I think that figure is just for England as well.

So sorry to hear your news @BigWoollyJumpers

alreadytaken · 16/01/2021 16:27

You are right - just England and sorry for omitting that.

Oh BigWoollyJumpers I am so very sorry. Is your DM safe and ok?

Ignore the doomsters. They are just annoyed that the vaccine program is going so well. So have found another way to cast their misery.
