@FourTeaFallOut

I know that the elderly can mount a better immune response if they have plenty of fruit and veg for the week prior to the flu vaccine.
That's really interesting. Did anyone see the BBC programme last week about how to boost your immune system? It referenced eating a wide range of fruit and veg to improve your gut health, and cold showers too.
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 13/01/2021 16:08

@FuzzyPuffling

Great news Sasha. We definitely need more people like you on the case. Can you imagine Doom Muppets marshals "Oooh you don't want to get that, you know. Won't do you any good. My uncle's grandpa's milkman's dog got the vaccine and he's now infertile. No, dead. No, hang on, he's gone green and been teleported to Mars..."

@Layladylay234 - the truth is no one knows but there’s a lot of miserable bastards out there who love to scaremonger. Schools are top priority for opening so I’m sure they will re-open at the first possible opportunity. I think we just need to sit tight and watch how the vaccine roll-out progresses. Stick on here and stay away from the dementors.

Northernbeachbum · 13/01/2021 16:11

Please can I come join, I need some positivity

Inastatus · 13/01/2021 16:14

😂 @fuzzypuffling the idea of doom muppet Marshall’s! ‘Well I don’t know why you are bothering with the vaccine, we are going to be in lockdown until the world ends anyway!’

agree not convinced 25/7 vaccination is worth the faff of getting the staff to do it - though I would go at any time. Expanding to 6am-10pm however would be more worthwhile IMO. And as pp suggested if offering all night makes it easier for night shift staff to go then fine.

@slidingdrawers yes I think I need to do that! Certain aspects this week have just pushed it too far so I'm glad I found some positivity

TeaInTheGarden · 13/01/2021 16:22

Good news to keep us calm alongside the horrid high death toll today

Nearly 208,000 vaccines given yesterday. That has to be good news.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 13/01/2021 16:25

My local vaccination hub in London has released a statement on social media. They are saying by Friday at 8pm they should have finished doing all the 80s and over that are mobile.

So they are now starting to contact for appointments all the 75s and over, carers, registered home carers and NHS staff Smile

It’s great to see the numbers creeping up by a little more each day.
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 13/01/2021 16:29

Today I received a letter about taking part in the imperial college antibodies research. So have signed up for that as sounds interesting.

Inastatus Thank you so much for your “doom muppet* comment on that thread. I stopped reading at your post. It knocked sense in to me and I thought yes, they are doom muppets, I’m not reading this nonsense. So a huge thank you.

I’m not listening to the radio/news or reading silly scary threads on here. I feel so much better today.

Yea, I know it’s scary out there, but I can’t stop it from being terrible amd it’s not helping me to get drawn in. This thread is saving me. Last week I read those school threads and became dangerously low.

Spiratedaway · 13/01/2021 16:43

@Gemma77

In the past few days Chris Whitty and even Neil Ferguson - both of whom err on the side of caution and have been referred to as doom and gloom - have both said we'll be back to normal by the autumn. If these two are saying we'll be back to normal I think it's very reassuring!

I work with academic scientists and they are fairly positive. They were always certain that with enough government funding they'd get good vaccines (the only corners that were cut are those related to the constant grant bidding and often failing requests for money). They are now fairly positive about virus mutations too. Essentially virus mutation isn't necessary a bad thing... vaccines will still work (think of virus as a face - mutation means say eye colour changes... antibodies still recognise the face!) If (and probably when eventually) virus changes to not look like a face anymore the protein changes would need to be significant enough for antibodies not to recognise it as Coronavirus anymore... which would likely mean it wouldn't be high risk to mortality, which ultimately a virus needs to do to be successful.

Sit tight everyone. Stay safe, protect our loved ones and the NHS for just a few more months and we'll get to the other side of this!

I have copied this Smile

@Calmandmeasured1

Isn't this supposed to be a thread to counteract all the doom and gloom? Some of the recent posts seem to be criticising the other threads and posters. Can posters please make an effort to create positive posts or, if not, then refrain from posting on this thread?
I'm so glad you said this as I didn't want to be negative by bringing up the negativity lol But I agree.

Try and keep it light people, there's lots on here (me included) who are struggling

JemimaPyjamas · 13/01/2021 16:55

@Layladylay234 Stay away from the school threads! I think that, in short, things like schools opening depends on the wider picture. As cases are going down, and vaccines going up, I see no reason to be doom and glooming over the schools being shut for months on end. There was a huge amount of reluctance to shut them in the first place due to the issues it could potentially cause for so many so they won't want to keep them closed unless there is a good reason.

FuzzyPuffling · 13/01/2021 16:55

It's certainly a thread of positivity, but I don't think that should stop us asking reasonable questions. After all, it's far more likely we'll get reasonable answers here, rather than on other threads.

Chins up - but keep the curiosity going!

I have bough some of that Taffix nasal spray stuff that is supposed to stop 78% of viral infections. Anyone else?

www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/1363799/coronavirus-update-news-latest-nasal-spray-taffix

Crappy link.

I have no idea if it works or if I have been royally ripped off, but it seems worth a go (on the assumption that I will be allowed out one day!)

The other thing to bear in mind about schools is that they’re doing a lot of testing there among vulnerable and keyworker children- ds gets tested every week. This will make it easier for them to decide to open them sooner than they otherwise would have done.

chri55ie · 13/01/2021 17:02

Did anyone see the news about JVT vaccinating people in ‘his spare time’? What an amazing man!
