I think provided that there aren't any supply issues then increasing throughput can only be good.
For example they could say 7am-7pm is for current target group, but if you are 60+ (or CEV) you can book for the antisocial hours 7pm-7am .
This would get more people done sooner, without disadvantaging the priority people.

@mrshonda

The Government have just announced that 24/7 vaccination centres are coming soon!
The community centre in my wee town is being used as a vaccination centre soon. Yippee!
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/01/2021 13:33

Yes, it’s all down to supply. With Novavax and J&J on the horizon it could get even better very soon!

MorrisZapp · 13/01/2021 13:34

My brother has just been vaccinated, he's admin in the NHS ✅

FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2021 13:35

A/Z are saying it's feasible for them to meet the 2m/week supply mark with their vaccines alone by the end of Feb.

chri55ie · 13/01/2021 13:36

We’ve just had our vaccination centre open today in my small town too. Delivery of vaccines today and appointments this afternoon! Exciting.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/01/2021 13:42

Lockdown measures starting to show effect

CornishYarg · 13/01/2021 13:43
@CornishYarg - I think ‘doom muppet’ should be our safe word so we can recognise kindred spirits if we find ourselves wandering over on the dark side 😅
@Inastatus I love the idea of encountering people in dark corners of the internet and whispering "Doom muppet" at them to see if they're one of us or from the dark side!

@sashagabadon Excellent news. I've just applied to be a vaccine marshall through our local volunteering site. Hopefully I'll hear back soon.

89redballoons · 13/01/2021 13:52

A friend who is an NHS physio got vaccinated yesterday, and BIL who is a community pharmacist got vaccinated today. Grin A particular relief about BIL as we didn't know whether pharmacists were going to be included in the definition of health and social care workers.

beachdays123 · 13/01/2021 13:54

ZOE app showing number of active cases has slightly dropped for the first time today, was about 839,000 yesterday, 835,000 today.

Supply from the manufacturer was never the issue. It is the batch testing, and the actual delivery. When politicians are saying "supply" is an issue, it is a conveniently nebulous term, which could mean, manufacture (which it isn't), batch testing (which is improving), delivery to central hub (going well), delivery out to vaccination centres (needs improving).
FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2021 14:30

Specifically, they said:

Mr Keith-Roach told MPs: “We are scaling up very rapidly – and this will happen imminently – to releasing two million doses a week.

Releasing sounds like 'out in the wild'- maybe there is enough wooliness to mean it is limited to production but I read it as meaning ready to use.

TeaInTheGarden · 13/01/2021 14:35

Does anyone know what time the daily vaccine stats are released? Will they just be part of the main stats update at 4pm (ish) or separate?

TeaInTheGarden · 13/01/2021 14:36

Love the idea of 24/7 vaccinations.
If people can get up and go Christmas food shopping at 3/4/5am then I’m sure they can get themselves to a vaccine centre!

Interesting note on this from Chris Smith, virologist this morning, discussing this on Jeremy Vine.

Circadian rhythms, and immunological responses are closely linked. Evidence suggesting that the body produces a lower response to medications and vaccines at nighttime. Interesting stuff.

Also, I am not convinced that people would go for vaccinations in the middle of the night. So many no-shows already during the day, additionally, and in normal times, 1,000's of people don't attend GP or hospital appointments.

Isn't this supposed to be a thread to counteract all the doom and gloom? Some of the recent posts seem to be criticising the other threads and posters. Can posters please make an effort to create positive posts or, if not, then refrain from posting on this thread?

TeenPlusTwenties · 13/01/2021 15:17

I've got some good news (though not CV related).

DD, y11, did some independent science today, and a little bit of maths.
She has been out of education for 2 terms with MH issues, and this is a tiny sign of recovery. Smile

I agree. I know the “doom muppets” can be wearing, but speaking as someone who is struggling a lot at the moment, mostly I think they are just scared. Let’s just try and keep to the positives?
FuzzyPuffling · 13/01/2021 15:29

TeenPlusTwenties That is great news. Well done your DD. You must be very proud indeed!

Well done to your DD Teen

I was reading recently how people react differently to vaccines under different circumstances. So if you're chronically stressed, you have a weaker immunological response to them (not a doctor, but hopefully that's correct). But equally, people who meditate have a measurably stronger response. It's fascinating. I'm a very stressed/anxious person in many ways but have been learning mindfulness through the pandemic and it's nice to think it might help me physically when I finally get a vaccine. It's just nice to have a little bit more control over your own health isn't it? If I get a vaccine, I will be meditating round the clock the week before and after Wink Anyone disturbing me will be glared at very hard.

FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2021 15:36

I know that the elderly can mount a better immune response if they have plenty of fruit and veg for the week prior to the flu vaccine.

thatgingergirl · 13/01/2021 15:39

TeenPlusTwenties - that's wonderful. I hope your DF is doing ok too?

I've just read on another thread (a nice one!) that JVT administered some vaccinations!! Envy. I wonder if you can apply for that?!

Layladylay234 · 13/01/2021 15:42

Oh god,can anyone talk me down. I've just seen the thread about schools not going back until after Easter. With all the dementors on the thread agreeing. That can't be right, surely?

I know it’s horrendous. Same people declaring dates as far as possible.

Nothing has been declared. But I know the uncertainty is hard. But click away because doomers go long.

TeaInTheGarden · 13/01/2021 15:59

@Layladylay234 you won’t hear that sort of talk here. Just ignore the other threads.
Here’s a graph that helps me feel better
