I found these threads the day before yesterday and already feel so much better, thank you.

I'm posting with a request. I spoke to my Mum earlier, sharing good news about how the vaccine is being rolled out pretty quickly, and she told me my Dad is being persuaded to be worried about the vaccine by a friend of his who keeps sending him anti-vax conspiracy stuff. I messaged my sister hoping she'd help me counteract this drip drip drip of nonsense, but it turns out she's not sure about getting it either. Both have health issues so really should have it. Can anyone recommend a good reassuring article to explain why the vaccine is safe and why the antivax worries aren't true?

Might be a good start....

tootyfruitypickle · 13/01/2021 17:25

If I got say a 3am appt, I’d want to go, but not sure if I can leave a 12 year old alone asleep at that time or if I’d have to take her and if theyd accept it ! Still, it’d be a nice problem to have !!

tootyfruitypickle · 13/01/2021 17:25

Or perhaps more pertinently, if my DM got one as she doesn’t drive.

JemimaPyjamas · 13/01/2021 17:27

Good innit! No 'blind positivity' (as I believe someone said in one of the earlier good news threads) but finding the good news. It's all out there, its just not as evocative as the Doom News!

MarcelineMissouri · 13/01/2021 17:38

@Layladylay234 we are not near Coventry but I’m sure they won’t have to wait much longer x

littleowl1 · 13/01/2021 17:42

Well I am feeling greater optimism today. I updated the "latest analysis" article which I posted a few days ago with the latest data. And cases in councils in Kent are continuing to fall.

www.covidmessenger.com/latest-analysis/

I have also added a chart for councils in Essex - which shows the same trend. Good news!

And finally I also added a chart for councils in Greater London its probably a little early to tell but it does look like cases in councils in London could be about to plateau. Which would be brilliant news.

I have also updated the table of cases in councils in England on the www.covidmessenger.com homepage so you can check cases/rates per 100K in your council if you wish.

I bet as we progress through the coming weeks that table on the homepage is going to start showing lots of "green". There has been such a change even this week.

thatgingergirl · 13/01/2021 17:46

Thanks for all your great work littleowl1.

TeaInTheGarden · 13/01/2021 17:47

Thank you @littleowl1! So pleased to hear the optimism 🙂

FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2021 17:47

My area is still rising but the gap between this week and the last is starting to close. Fingers crossed we go green soon.

FuzzyPuffling · 13/01/2021 17:50

That's great littleowl1. Lovely to see more green (even though it's not near me!)

littleowl1 thank you for your stats. I’ve been using them for ages so I’m so pleased to be able to thank you in person.

My area is falling! Whoop. We had scary data for a rural area, so it’s good to see the cases dropping.

Also fabulous post about JVT vaccinating in his spare time. Love that man. He’s fab and not afraid to correct Boris. He deserves recognition for his work.

CornishYarg · 13/01/2021 18:00

Thanks @littleowl1, I've just been looking at the Kent/Essex figures and feeling a bit more positive at seeing more green appearing. My area's average for the last 7 days is currently around 800 per 100k, compared with just under 1100 per 100k for the previous 7 days. Don't get me wrong, 800 is still horribly high and I'm still being extremely cautious. But after a horrible month with rates spiralling up, Christmas plans cancelled, entering Tier 4 etc, it helps to see some improvement.

Jellington · 13/01/2021 18:05

Our local figures have started dropping 🥳

JemimaPyjamas · 13/01/2021 18:43

Jesus. I’ve just read some of the posts on the ‘think this will be largely over in two months’ thread. While I do think two months is optimistic, many posters seemed fixated on things dragging on for years!

Looking at the links posted here, and like with the vaccines, the money being pumped into this is huge. Letting it drag on it worse than the actual virus, and people need to get back to normal. Or as close to normal as possible.

The UK is doing brilliantly on the vaccine front, other countries such as India have things in place to steam through their vaccinating, there is too much at stake to have a rerun of last year. Gradually the word will be thawing out from this mess.

OrangeBananaFish · 13/01/2021 18:43

Thank you *littleowl" I've just had fun playing in a spreadsheet with it. We're still rising with our cases per 100K, but only by 11. The other week it almost double from the 200's to the 400's IIRC. Hopefully we'll see a levelling out up here too.

Is there anywhere I can see a graph of the number of cases per 100K for each council area? I could do one myself if I had the data, but I've only really looked at Covid Messenger sporadically.

OrangeBananaFish · 13/01/2021 18:45

Found one on BBC. Should have looked first Grin

AVictoryProduct · 13/01/2021 18:47

I had a hygienist appointment today and it went really well. It was easy to get an appointment, I felt safe and it made me feel good because now my teeth are all clean and shiny. Dentist appointment tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it!

Boredsillyathome · 13/01/2021 18:55

I'm so happy my dad had the vaccine today, he is 75 I didn't expect it to happen so quickly. He is euphoric to get his life back and be able to hug us all soon! I've been terrified of him getting it, my mum passed away from cancer a few years ago and the thought of loosing my dad as well was just to much to bear. Really feel there is a light at the end of this very long tunnel!!

theotherfossilsister · 13/01/2021 19:11

We had a call from IVF clinic. Heart sank but we've been bought forwards not backwards.

TJ17 · 13/01/2021 19:17

Congrats @theotherfossilsister that's amazing news

Good luck with your journey SmileThanks

Oldwreck · 13/01/2021 19:34

Hello everyone. My first post on here but you’ve been keeping me sane for ages. Thank you!
Just wanted to say my area of London (which was previously extremely high) has started going down over the last few days AND I know of someone under 75 and another under 70 (possibly with additional health conditions) who got the vaccine in the last few days (retired so didn’t qualify due to their job or anything). Not the case everywhere I know, but good news nonetheless. Have I passed? Do I qualify for the good news thread?!

Spiratedaway · 13/01/2021 19:35

I am Essex we are going down
FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2021 19:43

Did they say what % of over 80s have had their first vaccine at the briefing today?

AVictoryProduct · 13/01/2021 19:49

@Boredsillyathome

Brilliant news! Thanks for sharing your joy. Fingers crossed those hugs with him are just around the corner.
