@JanuaryChill

Really interesting prog on R4 at the moment about NHS being "overwhelmed" - what this might mean, stats, whys and wherefores...
Thanks for this. I missed it but will listen later
littleowl1 · 14/01/2021 20:43

I am getting paranoid that I am having browser caching issues. I

Has today's data still not been published on the dashboard yet???

Randomschoolworker19 · 14/01/2021 20:46

I'm checking too and no nothing yet.

Mrsbrownsgargoyle · 14/01/2021 20:46

Don't think so.

yellowstoneranch · 14/01/2021 20:52

Keep checking if there's been an update, feeling very nervous now

Number37 · 14/01/2021 21:04

I thought it’d already been reported earlier?

I don't understand why none of the news outlets are talking about this.

Number37 · 14/01/2021 21:12

@Mrsbrownsgargoyle Sky news reported 884 earlier today. It’s in the photo just above.

tootyfruitypickle · 14/01/2021 21:13

Do you think they’re checking them then ? Arg

sirfredfredgeorge · 14/01/2021 21:13

I don't understand why none of the news outlets are talking about this

What sort of talking do you want? There's little news in, "the data recollection process didn't go right, needs checking so we can be accurate" The data service is extremely good, they have to take a load of stats from all different sorts of places that were cobbled together in short order to meet the demands of the pandemic, of course things are going to go wrong and be delayed. It's not news, it's just information, and if it's the aggregration and readying for display that's gone wrong it's not denied any decision maker anything they need to do their job.

sirfredfredgeorge · 14/01/2021 21:14

884 was the hospital deaths, there will be many others to report.

FleeingBlue · 14/01/2021 21:16

I believe that's just hospital numbers for England. Doesn't include Wales, Scotland or NI numbers, or care homes. So the figure will be higher.

InterfectoremVulpes · 14/01/2021 21:17

@sirfredfredgeorge

884 was the hospital deaths, there will be many others to report.
And its hospital deaths in England only
everythingthelighttouches · 14/01/2021 21:17

Always come here to check I’m not missing a trick when the figures are late!

Hmmph · 14/01/2021 21:18

Did anyone else have the problem with the app yesterday? It got stuck on loading and didn’t complete any exposure checks. Problem affected android phones. It was reported in several newspapers. It has been sorted now.

I am wondering if this is connected?

Quarantino · 14/01/2021 21:20

[quote Piggywaspushed]Bit of a situation with the LFTs;

I don't get why the final sentence of that article hasn't been the policy or even the focus of this article.
"Any further distribution of the daily tests may also be on the condition that people are warned more explicitly about the risks, instead of a negative result being presented as a “green light” that they are Covid-free."

RosesAndHellebores · 14/01/2021 21:20

Worldometers has the cases 49ishk I recall. There is a problem with the death data. My recollection is this usually means a counting issue: either too many or too few historically and an adjustment follows.

BaronessEllaSaturday · 14/01/2021 21:21

NHS daily spreadsheet for England is showing 884 deaths today vs 1012 yesterday

Posted earlier by someone, There's no reason to believe there will be a large spike today, it probably is just a data issue and not delaying bad news

PatriciaHolm · 14/01/2021 21:21

The issue is with processing of deaths data. It will be entirely unrelated to anything to do with the app.
ceeveebee · 14/01/2021 21:21

I don’t think the NHS app has anything to do with the dashboard

This guy runs the dashboard and says that the figure “isn’t terrible per se”, it’s a technical issues and they are getting there

That doesn't include PHE deaths, which resulted in a net increase of 388 deaths yesterday; so who knows really. That said, I don't believe the number itself has anything to do with the delay!
MarshaBradyo · 14/01/2021 21:24

Yep The Guardian approach.

What is interesting - these were to be used at beginning of term but there hadn’t been talk of authorisation from MHRA. Not sure on timing of this. But did scan article v quickly

PuzzledObserver · 14/01/2021 21:27

@MRex

Thanks, I hadn't seen a timeframe, that would allow adjustment before anyone's Oxford booster. So just some Pfizer to repeat. Does anyone know if they can pick RNA from a range of potential variation, to cover different possible directions of travel, or if the mutation has to have already happened for them to have the RNA available to use?
that would allow adjustment before anyone's Oxford booster. So just some Pfizer to repeat.

Reports I’ve seen suggest the vaccine might be less effective against the South African and Brazilian strains - maybe 20% less - but that doesn’t mean those people would have zero protection. So personally I don’t think they would go back and prioritise revaccinating those people. There would be more benefit at a population level in continuing the campaign, on unvaccinated people, using the tweaked vaccine ASAP.

I wonder/hope that the revised vaccine would protect against all known strains, not replace the previous strain with the new one. We ideally want protection against all the circulating strains.

Piggywaspushed · 14/01/2021 21:29

I don't get what you mean Quarantino?

FleeingBlue · 14/01/2021 21:33

ceeveebee - thanks for the link to Pouria Hadjibagheri's twitter. He give such lovely rational replies to people's questions.
