The amount of misinformation I came across in the past 2 days amazed me

  • Sputnik is also an mRNA vaccine
  • Sputnik has already been approved in the EU
  • S. has 98% efficacy
  • no masks needed for those who had even 1 vaccine
  • as above + can go home without a mask already
  • children never get sick w/covid
  • children don't transmit

I do wonder if I should set up a charity, beg around for some money and start a nationwide information campaign in all media outlets....

ancientgran · 11/01/2021 16:45

Bloody hell. Messaging after having the vaccine needs to be VERY CLEAR, doesn't it?! Maybe a talk when they have the 15 minute wait after the jab?

TheSunIsStillShining · 11/01/2021 16:46

I don't want to sound patronizing, but wording should be tailored to the audience. These are very old people, many with quite diminished brain capacity.
And yes, I know I will get there too....

ancientgran · 11/01/2021 16:49

I know I will get there too Only if you're lucky.

CatsLikeBoxes · 11/01/2021 16:49

My London Borough seems to have surprisingly limited testing facilities- on our council website I could only find 1 walk in centre and a part time mobile unit mentioned. The link above has 2 additional places though they are well away from the main town

Madhairday · 11/01/2021 17:03

Yes the misinformation is worse than ever and continues to spread wide. It's really worrying and I'm all for free speech but these lies are costing lives.

Firefliess · 11/01/2021 17:08

Government press conference - Matt Hancock says 46k new cases. Obviously he's emphasising that it's still really high and we need to follow the rules, etc. But that's actually a good drop today

schimmelreiter · 11/01/2021 17:09

Age doesn't make you better or worse at knowing/ understanding. Nor does education - a mathematically able colleague has been saying since June that we have all had it and we have herd immunity now. I think it is what he wants to be true. I have most success at using the information I get off this thread with people 20 years old and younger. They are interested and assume their knowledge is limited.

Firefliess · 11/01/2021 17:10

He also says no change to lockdown rules for now at least - though not ruled out in future. Over 2m now vaccinated he says

AnyFucker · 11/01/2021 17:11

.

boys3 · 11/01/2021 17:11

46,169 cases from press conference

No deaths figure given, but 7 day rolling average for reported deaths over 900, did not catch exact number

Dashboard not updated yet as far as I can see

MarshaBradyo · 11/01/2021 17:13

@Firefliess

Government press conference - Matt Hancock says 46k new cases. Obviously he's emphasising that it's still really high and we need to follow the rules, etc. But that's actually a good drop today
Is that quite good for Monday?

It did sound better

CarpeVitam · 11/01/2021 17:13

.

Firefliess · 11/01/2021 17:13

Hancock says 2 in 5 over 80s now had their vaccine. Only a quarter of care home residents. It's obviously proving trickier to get it to them

whatsnext2 · 11/01/2021 17:14

Thanks for the continuing threads.

There seems to be a lots of anxiety around various settings and point of infection. Does anyone know if test and trace are collecting data on where caught, for example supermarket, school etc and if that data is available?

Madhairday · 11/01/2021 17:14

That's a good drop. Hoping it's not just the Sunday figures which are often a bit lower for tests as well as deaths. Let's hope it continues to fall.

wintertravel1980 · 11/01/2021 17:15

Monday and Tuesday numbers are usually low (in relative terms) unless we are going through the period of rapid growth.

Numbers that will be reported from Wednesday to Friday will be interesting. The best point of comparison will be Monday to Monday variance (Jan 11 to Jan 4). I am hoping to see a noticeable drop, at least in London and South East, where cases started going down earlier.

Zoe is down again - 64,000 to under 62,000. I think the trend is moving in the right direction although, unfortunately, the death numbers will go up before they go down.

Firefliess · 11/01/2021 17:15

He's now taking all about the vaccination programme - it all sounds great. Much more positive to listen to this than just the new cases and deaths figures every day Smile

Witchend · 11/01/2021 17:17

46k is a drop of around 12k from last Monday, so that looks good.

Firefliess · 11/01/2021 17:19

I think it's a bit tricky to make week to week comparisons currently, as we're still seeing the impact of Christmas/new year mixing, and bank holidays. Monday 4th was the first working day of the year, so may be higher than a normal Monday. But 46k is the lowest daily reported figure for 2 weeks, so has to be a good figure.

Piggywaspushed · 11/01/2021 17:20

Thank you !

Firefliess · 11/01/2021 17:26

Press conference is now talking about some research that they've been doing that's about to be published (I think?) into whether people still pass Covid on when they've had the vaccine. Would be very interested in reading this if anyone knows what it is?

peridito · 11/01/2021 17:26

Good news about todays numbers .

I'm glad that testing is becoming easier across London .It doesn't seem to have reached Southwark yet .

lurker101 · 11/01/2021 17:33

@peridito hopefully it will reach you soon. I have to say I’m quite impressed with it in our area - booked online today for LFT and got an email and text with details of my booking and a reminder to book a follow up test 3-4 days later (which I’ve now booked), there seems to be no limit to frequency of the testing and I don’t work outside the home (and was not asked this). There are around 6 locations for this testing in my Borough from memory. I guess I’ll see when I go if it’s as good in practice as the online experience!

CoffeeandCroissant · 11/01/2021 17:33

When we’ll see an impact on reported case numbers, hospitalisations and ICU admissions (as a result of vaccine rollout).

This bulletin explores the rate at which we might see the benefits of this programme in terms of the key metrics used to monitor the pandemic.

We expect that the impact of a successful vaccination programme will be most obvious in the hospitalisation and deaths data, with material reductions in hospitalisation starting from mid-February and reported deaths in early March. The impact on cases is expected to be seen sooner, but the reduction is likely to be smaller.
