@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

Some People (not on this thread) are definitely taking the vaccine calculator too seriously- there was a gloom spreading muppet on the Twitter thread below the Coronavirus Good News tweet with all the cool stats in going ‘ah but the government must be lying because the vaccine calculator says...’ Hmm
Absolutely - some people are absolutely determined to always see the worst. Is there a coronavirus good news tweeter? I have been avoiding Twitter, but would go back on for this.
MarshaBradyo · 10/01/2021 13:35

Looking forward to vaccine announcements

This site is too much might temper

@TJ17

The Omni calculator has now brought everyone forward again! 🤗 (In terms of when we will receive vaccine)
CoolSmile
tootyfruitypickle · 10/01/2021 13:47

The vaccine calculator just suggested I check what’s in store for me in 2021 by checking my star sign ....so that’s what we’re dealing with !
But Hancock said we’re currently at a vaccination rate of 1.5 mill a week. So even putting that into the calculator , as 47 year old with no preconditions I’d get it may-early July. At 2 mill a week it’s april - May!!

I’m starting to think it’s going to make sense to just carry on down the age order , if they can get all over 40s done by May, that covers off rest of risk really across all occupations and protects teachers and parents of secondary ? Perhaps locally it could be prioritised with over 40 teachers during Easter break, allowing schools back after the hol?

FuzzyPuffling · 10/01/2021 14:09

Star sign!! Tootyfruitypickle...that made me laugh! Maybe they are distributing vaccines depending on your star sign! "Sagittarians, line up now...! Not you. Libra, wait for it"

@MarcelineMissouri

Positive numbers from the vaccine roll out
That’s fantastic! We’ll have vaccinated more people than we have had (official) Covid cases in the next week or so?
alreadytaken · 10/01/2021 15:29

This isnt covid good news - but next winter there may be a better flu vaccine www.nature.com/articles/s41591-020-1118-7 because you wouldnt have to guess what strains would predominate.

Blerg · 10/01/2021 17:07

Some more info reported on the vaccine being effective against the new strain(s): www.theguardian.com/science/2021/jan/10/uk-covid-variant-unlikely-to-evade-vaccines

The focus is the Kent one but the positive conclusions have implications for for South African one too.

fadingfast · 10/01/2021 19:20

Thank you @Blerg I needed to hear that today Flowers

HopelessBlue192 · 10/01/2021 21:01

You guys and this thread are the best :) this has picked me up, at a time when I really really bloody needed it! Thank you!

Shehz21 · 10/01/2021 21:57

I was feeling depressive to a very dangerous low point the last couple of days and this thread actually saved my sanity. Please keep the good news coming Smile

2020CanDoOne · 10/01/2021 22:18

From Twitter:

Zoe Covid app has shown a decline in new cases in the UK for the 3rd day in a row.

London in particular has seen quite a large decline in new cases - over 20% down from its peak.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 10/01/2021 22:22

Brilliant

Fingers crossed zoe is right Smile

Okay, okay I know what paper this is from, but this article made me go all warm and fuzzy. And we all need some warm and fuzzies right now.

Monkeytennis97 · 11/01/2021 07:38

Hi all jumping on hereSmile

tootyfruitypickle · 11/01/2021 07:51

Chris Whitty has just said on BBC that life will return to normal as it was before - no question about that.

starfish88 · 11/01/2021 07:57

I never understood the people who had a crush on Chris Whitty in lockdown 1 but if he's saying that I could kiss him!

I’m sure there are plenty on the CV board who have insider info and will disagree with him.

This is great though - he’s nothing if not a realist

starfish88 · 11/01/2021 08:30

Their cats, friends hairdresser does tend to have more up to date info than Chris Whitty though

MorrisZapp · 11/01/2021 08:35

Very tentatively, Scottish cases look to have peaked. We have plenty of icu beds too apart from in poor old Ayrshire and Arran. Mind you, I know plenty of women who gave birth in West Lothian because Edinburgh Royal Infirmary maternity unit was full. At least the worst journey anyone will have to make to get to an available bed just now is a whizz up the M8.

Cautiously hopeful here.

FuzzyPuffling · 11/01/2021 08:35

Chris Whitty is great, isn't he? Realistic, so not gung ho so you can't trust him, but gently positive with a clear eye on the plan.
I do feel for him though. I don't suppose he ever thought he'd have to be a poster boy for a pandemic and he's not a natural in front of a camera. But I rather like him for that!

I'm hoping so too @MorrisZapp

I haven't contributed to this thread for a few days; I've been struggling to see the good news trees for the Forest of Doom. I'm still reading though and hanging on in there.
