The Omni calculator has now brought everyone forward again! 🤗
(In terms of when we will receive vaccine)

LikeIDo · 10/01/2021 11:47

Every adult offered by August!! Wow that's incredible. Do they really mean that, not just vulnerable adults?? That's amazing if so.

I'm feeling really fucking good at the moment about this whole vaccine stuff. Not agreed with the handling of various things throughout but anyone else feeling pretty proud of us with this roll out currently?!

🤞🤞🤞🤞

chri55ie · 10/01/2021 11:47

That’s great. I’m now down to get first dose between April and May and I’m under 50 and don’t have any underlying health conditions. 2nd dose between July and august. Also as capacity increases we should be doing more than 2 million a week.....

LikeIDo · 10/01/2021 11:48

I personally am not concerned about when I'll receive the vaccine as a young adult with no health conditions but the fact that they have said everyone (offered) by August must mean they are confident in their Feb goal for the 4 top categories. That's great!

@Wherediditgo

Just read this fascinating article on BBC - it’s like a brief walk through the whole of 2020 and how the science community has handled it the whole way. Fascinating and positive in equal measure:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-55565284

Also makes you realise just how far we have come since the last pandemic. For example, the discovery of DNA and the creation of the World Wide Web in the last century have both had a massively positive impact on the speed of which the vaccines have been produced!

That's really interesting, thanks Wherediditgo

Its great to read some uplifting headlines today - Sky news is leading with the 'More than 200,000 coronavirus given a day as uk on course to meet vaccination target' headline.

However, I am in no doubt the bringers of doom on other threads will post a totally different slant on that positivity!

Happy Sunday all Smile

thatgingergirl · 10/01/2021 11:52

Wherediditgo - that's a really interesting article.

Such good news on the vaccine numbers.

LikeIDo · 10/01/2021 11:54

Eek just checked the calculator. I've gone from Feb 2022 to August / Sept 2021!! Just incredible.

Surely if this is actually achieved, (I'm a 26 year old healthy adult!) we must be getting some normality back relatively soon (in the grand scheme of things)!

TheChineseChicken · 10/01/2021 11:58

@TeaInTheGarden

Really can’t wait for vaccinations daily stats starting tomorrow, sad I know! But will be lovely to have some positive stats to focus on. If we are vaccinating 200,000 a day, that’s more than the virus is infecting 🎉
Ooo good fact
FuzzyPuffling · 10/01/2021 12:01

Oooh exciting stuff about the Omni calculator. I know it's just an algorithm but I assume they have some method to their madness and aren't just changing it for the hell of it!

In the meantime, I think I might do some online browsing of spring plants...

OP posts:
chri55ie · 10/01/2021 12:01

Also with the calculator make sure you have it set up for 2million a week as it defaults to 1million....

FuzzyPuffling · 10/01/2021 12:03

Just checked Omni again and there are now 2 million MORE people in the queue ahead of me! Weird.

twinmum2017 · 10/01/2021 12:04

Does anyone know how soon you start of have something protection after your first dose of the Pfizer vaccine?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 10/01/2021 12:05

They might have changed expected uptake, Fuzzy? I believe that has been higher than expected.

FuzzyPuffling · 10/01/2021 12:09

Uptake was still saying 70.6%.
Maybe there's a secret question for those that live in a vaccine desert? ;)

FuzzyPuffling · 10/01/2021 12:10

twinmum generally a couple of weeks, I think. It begins to "grow" in a significant way after 10 days.

Crumpetycrump · 10/01/2021 12:20

Does anyone know the cut off date for age groups? DH is 55 next month so will he go into the next category up or not? Probably won’t make much difference really but interested to know.

OrangeBananaFish · 10/01/2021 12:23

ooh just checked my vaccine calculator. I'm due to get my second dose before I am supposed to go to France (which is not booked yet, but I am still hoping to go as planned)

MarcelineMissouri · 10/01/2021 12:24

Another cheerful statistic!

Good News Thread Number 4. Because that positivity just keeps on coming!

nice one marceline.

I always think that calculator is both a blessing and a curse. It's surely only using known information. So presumably only based on vaccines approved so far, rates of vaccination so far (although I know there's some adjustment possible). So useful for short term but potentially worry inducing for longer term as so many things will change. There will be more vaccines, more stock, more efficient processes, increased capacity etc to throw in the mix. I see so many with a date a year hence stressing, but that's surely only if things remain the same. Which we know they won't. It's not a process with only set variables, those variables are shifting.

Spiratedaway · 10/01/2021 12:31

I needed this tread more that ever today another scientist saying we won't go back to normal jeez

Treaclepie19 · 10/01/2021 12:36

Just did the calculator on 2 million a week and that's so close even though I'm low risk and 30. Cheered me right up 😊

Crumpetycrump · 10/01/2021 12:43

It’s even better if you put in 3m a week! Let’s hope they can ramp up even further 🤞

JemimaPyjamas · 10/01/2021 12:49

@AlexandraEiffel I agree totally re the calculator. I first was due around March / April but then it shot down to October (am 46, Type 1 diabetic) and I don't think I want to look again! I suspect any dates will shoot up and down anyway, and we have more vaccines due to offer and the vaccination centres ought to be moving quicker and more efficiently as time goes on.

I feel quite optimistic and don't want to spoil it!!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 10/01/2021 13:05

Some People (not on this thread) are definitely taking the vaccine calculator too seriously- there was a gloom spreading muppet on the Twitter thread below the Coronavirus Good News tweet with all the cool stats in going ‘ah but the government must be lying because the vaccine calculator says...’ Hmm
